Is Andrew Campbell not a UFA after this season? I see he has been listed as an RFA.

Bleh, he is. Dunno how I missed that, I was just looking at his info an hour ago thinking that he was going to walk this offseason :P

Just keeping you on your toes!

The only reason I remembered he was a UFA is because his mom is an acquaintance of my boss so she talks to him about Andrew periodically. Good old Caledonia, ON boy.

How many contracts are we at, and how many are we allowed?

I believe the contract limit is 50 players signed, and 90 players on a reserve list max, and we are at 47/50 currently.

A team may not have more than 50 players under contract at any point during the season. This limit includes players on injured reserve or long-term injured reserve.

Exception: A 18- or 19-year old player with remaining major junior eligibility, or a player who is drafted from a European team who is then selected in the CHL Import Draft, does not count toward the contract limit until he has played at least 11 NHL games, if the player is assigned to his major-junior team only.

A team may not have more than 90 players on its reserve lists at any one time during a season. The reserve list includes players under contract, unsigned draft picks who have collegiate or major junior eligibility remaining, and all unsigned draft picks who have been drafted by a team within the last two league years. NHL teams retain exclusive rights to draft picks for two years after a player is drafted, or until NCAA or major junior eligibility has been exhausted.

Do we typically operate with a few open spots? I'm just wondering if Union College captain Mat Bodie could sign with us or the Monarchs.

I don't recall how typically close we've been, but I think this is the closest we've been to the max in a while. We should be losing another spot sooner or later when we sign Gravel. However, we have a lot of free agents though and I don't see a lot of them signed.

We will be losing at least one of Greene or Mitchell, if not both. Fraser and Schultz are gone. We may keep Livingston, Qualier, and Campbell, but likely not all (Campbell will likely walk). I am sure Parker will be let go. Brian O'Neill will likley be out the door too as well.

Agree with all of the end.

Will be a bummer to lose O'Neill, but I'm sure him and Campbell will be headed somewhere where they have a shot at an NHL spot (Campbell could already play bottom pairing on most teams, O'Neill could fight for a depth spot at least).

The Kings typically have had 5 to 7 slots left open per year except for one season where they were almost maxed out, which made signing NCAA free agents and their own prospects difficult as they could only offer ATOs.

Currently the team has 44 players out of their 50 contract limit.

Technically they're at 43 because Kurtis MacDermid is not at the AHL/NHL level so you *can* exclude him for an extra slot. However, Lombardi tends to count them as they are without waving slots when he talks about how tight he is on the reserve list.

He can be excluded for this year, but he goes back on the contract max starting July 1. You wouldn't be able to sign someone if you had 49 signed for next year + 1 guy signed in junior. So yeah although it technically doesn't count, it really does. Doesn't start not counting again until he is re-assigned next fall.

does anyone have any idea on how much money we have to sign Gaborik and king without resigning greene and mitchell ? I'm hopeing to magically have enough to offer Markov a contract. Is it possible? or am i dreaming

Gabbo will cost somewhere around 6M and King around 1.5M. I'm not sure about Markov but I assume at least 5M, which would be a total of 12.5 just for those three players.

Definitely recommend going to capgeek and fooling around so you can see the moving parts for yourself. It's hard to say offhand--but losing Greene AND Mitchell would save a pretty penny, but then the Brown extension kicks in, we have RFAs/UFAs to sign, and AHLers to consider. And even then, depends on if the cap is going to be relatively tight at 68 or go up more near the initial 71 mil estimate.

Sorry not trying to cop out, just saying it's really hard to say, but Markov isn't really likely unless it's a one year deal or we're firing off Voynov or Martinez (UFA next year).

Alright so after spending some time on capgeek I created this roster with over 3M left in cap space. Thoughts?

Signings:
Marian Gaborik 6M
Deryk Engelland 950K
Brayden McNabb 900K
Linden Vey 900K
Andy Andreoff 650K

NHL Players gone:
Matt Greene
Willie Mitchell
Colin Fraser
Jeff Schultz
Dwight King

New Roster:
Gaborik-Kopitar-Williams
Brown-Richards-Carter
Pearson-Stoll-Toffoli
Clifford-Vey-Lewis
*Nolan *Sabourin

Muzzin-Doughty
Regher-Voynov
Martinez-Engelland
*McNabb

Thoughts?

One would think Andreoff makes it before Sabourin. As for your projected forward group, not much has changed. I think that we're all hoping that Richards has a much stronger season than this one.
Is Engelland quick? If not, than we're in for much of the same too slow defense that we saw much of this season. I can see some changes like you're suggesting and not a massive roster shake up that some want. A little tinkering here and there.

Hopefully Nick Ebert signs before 6/1 as well.

If resigned, Andreoff, Vey, and McNabb would have to go on waivers.

Knew that for McNabb, didn't realize that for Vey and Andreoff. Yikes. Some tough decisions to be made this offseason.

Personally, I think Andreoff and McNabb stick with the big club and Vey is a goner along with another bottom-6er (Clifford, King, etc.).

Doughty-Muzzin
Voynov-Regehr
Martinez-McNabb
Campbell

If they trade King and Clifford and don't re sign Greene or Mitchell we should have plenty of cash available to upgrade right?

With that roster, and hypothetically re-signing Gaborik for 6.5, Andreoff for 750k, Vey for 950k, McNabb for 950k, and Campbell for 750k, that only leaves 4.3 million with a 71.1 million cap. There isn't much room to upgrade paying a 4th line center 5.7 million worth of cap space.

Möller is NHL-ready.

Can see him putting up 60 points with Gaborik and Kopitar.

He is fiesty also.
