I’ve seen zero talk about him and every mock I see has him well into the teens or lower. I’ve never seen him play, so what am I missing about Artamonov? This stat profile is bonkers for a potential late 1st.
I know he has a lot of fans on draft twitter.

I’m not sure what to make of KHL scoring recently (and this applies to Michkov). They have fringe/AAAA pros leading the league in scoring. 40 year old Kovalchuk takes 2.5 years off and comes back and produces. Guys scoring at higher rates there than the MHL. :dunno:

His production in the MHL last year as a late ‘05 was so-so but those leagues are wonky sometimes.

Signed with his KHL team through the end of 2026.

Was (relatively) unknown until this season.

I think it’s likely a combination of those two things.

Buium too the moon

I saw this thread (they go back and forth a bit) the other day and have pretty strong thoughts about it (!!!). But I'd love to hear what you say first, so I can disagree.

Also, I've been doing more advanced tape scouting. I found his Bar Mitzvah photos online. Cake was pretty basic, but he had a lot of girls attend. He's got game for sure.

Yea, I saw it too. Don't agree with the "He's not necessarily improving the conditions of the puck with these plays" statement though. I LOVE guys that constantly poke at defenses to try and find openings like this. I'd be surprised if he cant adapt to NHL speeds with more give n go's if it becomes harder for him to create space too. I'm not a skating expert though, so I pretty much defer to these guys and you for the more advanced technique stuff.

He's absolutely improving the position of the puck on many of those plays. Like I'm questioning what he's watching to say that. Beating anyone up top rips open scoring areas. No shit he can't get away with a chunk of it in the NHL -- he flirted with unnecessary danger a few times in the couple games I caught -- but he has wiggle like a forward prospect. That's the best way I can describe his skill: like a forward. It's not just that he's a great puck handler (he is), but that he has rare comfortability in 1v1 situations, face-up and along the walls. I don't disagree with Jack Han that decisive passing in the NHL is > than double/triple moves, but he's too skilled and too good a passer to not figure out what does and doesn't work.

Calling him a weak or elite skater is over-simplistic anyway. I'd say he's on the good side of average as a strider, but he has plus short area movement. It's more edges than burst, along with the hands/body control, but people don't understand how important body deception is to creating space. And choosing the angle and timing of your attack. He is really really good at improving the position of the puck for himself, which is slightly different than what that guy was talking about. As I said, he maneuvers like a forward.

One could almost say he moves like an alien. I think this fluidity comes from his parents, who were obviously abducted and experimented on by aliens, and he was named after one of them as a tribute.
