Value of: Offersheet from Edmonton for Lindholm

Ya could get a little dicey, could work out its a gamble really, and unfortunately losing those 4 firsts means you likely have a crap shoot prospect pool, so not much replenishment there. Puljujarvi numbers going to be inflated by mcdavid could easily see him in the 6 range if he plays on mcdavid line the whole time.

We don't need elite talent in the pipeline when we have a young core (U-25) of McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Puljujarvi, Klefbom, Larsson, and Nurse.

The Oilers last two drafts/prospect signings have been oriented towards drafting the right sort of complementary players- Caggiula, Benson, Bear, Niemalainen, Jones- to eventually replace the likes of Pouliot, Yakupov, Letestu, Hendricks, Fayne, etc.

As long as we can continue drafting decent in the 2nd round and beyond as it appears we have (time will tell) since Chia took over....losing 4 mid-first rounders isn't going to make a difference for our franchise.

Thanks. Too bad my offer was 2 firsts and a 2nd. I didnt know he could be got for a 1st and second.

2 firsts and a 2nd is the offer sheet equivalent of 7.5 -9.3 mil for 4 years max.

edit : Its now 2 firsts 2nd and 3rd . Adding the 3rd is fine.

So instead of putting the Ducks in a position to match a ridiculous offer as this, and then REVENGE OFFER SHEET Draisaitl and Nurse, (Mcdavid would be signed long before he hit RFA) ...............just offer what the compensation would be and see if the Ducks find it acceptable or want to sign him.

Makes sense no?
Ah misread first post, from Edmonton standpoint yes.

Anaheim nothing makes sense unless we're trading him for useful players or signing him here. Offer sheet obviously puts a damper on thst but that's a tough pill to swallow

You skip over the post where I explained that I was joking? But you're being awfully optimistic about your scenario there chief.

No, not really. Lindholm and Larsson>>Leddy and Boychuk.

When you have the kind of talent up front that the Oiler/Islanders do/did, adding a couple of very good defenseman should be the difference between being the league's doormat and a playoff team. Defense is the most important component of the game today, and the Oilers would immediately go from having the worst blue-line in the NHL to a middle-of-the-pack unit in a single offseason.

I still think a culture adjustment is needed there. I don't think Lucic is worth the money he got. Larsson is good but not THAT good yet.

I think the Oil have a ways to go. And when I said you're overly optimistic I meant about being able to afford all your players to insanely high contracts plus Lindholm at 7.5

How high would Edmonton have to go to get the Ducks to not match? The Ducks have 14.8M in cap space with only 8F signed and still need a backup G as well. They also want to ice a good team and have an internal budget of an unknown amount. Ideally I'd love a 46.9M 7yr deal to keep the RFA compensation under 4 1sts. But if it requires 4 1sts, I am cool with that too.

Obviously a 7yr deal would be needed. 7M? 7.5M? 8M? How high would Edmonton have to go to pry Lindholm away from the Ducks?

Why wold the Oilers do this. Currently what they need to do is come together as a team and make the playoffs.

Then they can wait for the right pieces to be available when they turn 28.

Quoting this post for when the Oilers are bottom of the league again. :D

The Oilers should absolutely go the offer sheet route on Lindholm.

1. They have the cap space for it
2. It's a position of need
3. If you include Lindholm their future assets (draft picks) are worth less than the current assets (see Hall trade) it would cost to get him.

It not like they would be submitting an offer sheet out of spite, it seems very logical for the Oilers to do this. The Ducks wouldn't be happy obviously, they have an internal cap and would like to sign Lindholm for the least amount of money possible. Even if the Ducks match that's not necessarily a bad thing for the Oilers.

What more of a culture adjustment needs to take place sans Eberle, RNH, and Yakupov being dealt? Nicholson, Chiarelli, and McLellan came in to replace the OBC and we just traded our 2nd best player- and face of the franchise prior to McDavid- to address a need which has been hampering us for several years now.

Lucic was overpaid two years for term....but again, he's a much-needed injection into the Oilers lineup. We need a guy of his caliber with the level of compete and grit that he possesses.....adding Lucic, Draisaitl, Maroon, Puljujarvi, Kassian over the past year drastically changes the makeup/identity of our forward group from "wholly soft, one-dimensional, perimeter players" to one of the toughest to play against in the NHL.

Define "that good" re: Larsson....personally, I don't see him as any more than a 2-3 tweener atm. But he *still* makes us a much better team. His elite defense + having Klefbom back instantly makes our shot suppression capabilities as a team that much better.....that is a price worth paying re: Taylor Hall given the invaluable contribution that makes toward team success.

I agree with the Oilers having a way to go. As the roster currently stands, even a healthy Oilers team (something we haven't ***ing had since 2012-2013) will not escape the bottom-10. I predict we end up drafting 8-10 (minus lottery luck of course ).

Why wouldn't be able to afford Lindholm at 7.5? We can afford him at 9 and still have the money to re-sign McDavid, Draisaitl, and Puljujarvi given cap fluctuations/expiring contracts.....other Oiler fans have already crunched the numbers to show that.

Oilers dont have a NEED for Lindholm unless they are trading away Klefbom or playing Sekera with his 5.5M contract on the 3rd pairing.
Lets not get greedy here.. Sign Wisneiwski\Rundblad or trade for a bottom pairing RD like Petrovic to round out the D.

We have 7 million in cap space atm- with no one to sign/resign- and could easily dump a contract like Fayne with a buyout just as we did Korpi.

Worry instead about how your frugal franchise plans on retaining the services of one Jacob Trouba.

Chia did say Klefbom can play right, no?

Edmonton can't offer sheet lindholm. We don't have our 2nd round pick next year.
Try to keep up. They definitely can.

I don't really care about threats regarding OS to the Oilers future RFA's. As long as they can match McDavid then its fine. They'll either match the other ones or take the compensation

They offer sheeted him more than he was worth. And Penner wasn't as essential as Lindholm

Yah it's no question Penner < Lindholm. The point I was making is they've done it to us before, why wouldn't they do it again? Especially to contend with a legit up and coming #1 defenseman.

This idea isn't so far fetched after all regarding Edmonton and Anaheim offer sheets. Its something to surely think about and maybe somewhat worrisome until Lindholm is signed.

Because "they" might accurately represent the Oilers, but it doesn't mean it's the same management.

No need to jump on my back about it. The option of offer sheeting Lindholm is a option on the table. They have the forward group all they need is a defensive group. And Lindholm would be a great fit there.

I'm trying to see two sides of the coin here and it would make sense that they would try and offer sheet.

It doesn't matter, Anaheim is keeping Lindholm, you have no chance of getting him, these offer sheet threads about him are a total waste of time

That wasn't jumping on your back.

The point is simply that you're using a previous offer sheet as evidence that they, meaning Edmonton, would be willing to do that. It's a different GM. He may have completely different thoughts regarding offer sheets. He may feel his team isn't as desperate. He may even feel that giving up four 1st round picks just isn't worth the risk, even for a player like Lindholm. Remember that with the new draft rules, you could be looking at lottery picks all four years. Perhaps he feels that poisoning the relationship between the two teams, and potentially angering other GM's, isn't necessary.

There are a lot of reasons Chiarelli may not want to offer sheet Lindholm. A completely different GM almost a decade ago isn't very good evidence that they may be willing. It isn't evidence he wouldn't be either, but managing the same team doesn't mean he shares the same opinion.

It's very true. Chiarelli has been on the recieving end of OS threats with Kessel so that might have soured him on the process. He also saw how that backfired in his favour and might not want to be on that side of it either
