Given 2 more years to accomplish this, because that is when McDavid and Nurse need new contracts.

McDavid @8 + Lindholm @ 7.5 + Drai @ 5 + Nurse @ 3(bridge) = 23M

Currently the Oilers have 6.9 in cap space + Ferrence @ 3.25 + Fayne@ 3.65 + Pouliot @ 4 + Eberle/Nuge @6 = 23.8M. And if the cap goes up a few million a season as it traditionally has, that gives more room.
McDavid will want more than 8. Lindholm will require more than 7.5 to get the Ducks not to match. Moving Eberle or RNH is far from a sure thing (although you guys have the benefit of a GM who's not afraid to move his young players)

You're also moving out 3 top 6 forwards in this whole menagerie. (including Taylor Hall) You guys have been known for being quite well off up front while lacking in the back end, but that doesn't mean you have an endless talent pool to pull from.

Maybe they could compromise, Edmonton agrees not to OS Lindholm, Anaheim agrees to trade Fowler to them for a package of cap clearing picks. My understanding is they want a LW, so Pouliot + Reinhart for Fowler + Stoner, perhaps.

Anaheim gets a LW, a defensive prospect, and saves about $3 million dollars with this deal, and can sign Lindholm + Rackell without too much fuss I would imagine.

If you changed reinhart to yakupov and added some sort of pick I'd prob consider

I'd be willing to do it, but I structured it that way because of Anaheim's budget issues, Reinhart is a 865k cap hit next season, Yakupov is $2.5 mill, so there's a fair difference.

Plus it kinda gives the Ducks a LD in the system seeing as how Fowler is going out. But if you want Yakupov instead, I think that wouldn't be a huge issue.

I'm not saying you guys can't make it work but without those 4 picks who is going to replace guys like Ebs and nuge and Pouliot. I'm just saying it makes for a really tough situation and the reason you lose RNH and Eberle is cause you os lindholm so essentially you are paying 6 firsts to overpay lindholm.

The Ducks have more cap space than Edmonton. So that's not really how offer sheets work.

After the Ducks sign Lindholm, their #6 defenseman is making $3.25m for the next two seasons. It's not exactly a preferable situation on their back-end. The Oilers should take notes.

I don't really see how Edmonton could afford an offersheet that wouldn't be matched.

Oilers have over 10M in cap space with no one left to sign.. Once Ference is put on LTIR they will have 3M+ more... Having said that Lindholm is not someone they will break the bank on.

ANA has mor space but still has a. Few more forwards to sign on top of Lindholm..

Vatanen should still be the target for EDM IMO... He checks off everything they need.. Yakupov(retained) + Pouliot + Yakimov for Vatanen

Go ahead and offer 7.5m I think the Ducks would be okay starting a rebuild on the back of four Edmonton first overall picks. Then it would be hilarious to watch them try and keep their cap management in order.

LMAO. We have an elite forward group and a legit starting goalie locked in long-term.

The worst defense in the league would be adding Lindholm and Larsson to the stable- without subtracting any defenseman to boot- and that combined with a further developing Nurse would propel a healthy Oilers team from bottom-feeder to divisional playoff team in one fell swoop ala the Islanders from 2014 to 2015.

Even if we suffer 1st round exits for the four years, you're kidding yourself if you want to believe that drafting 16th-19th is going to provide for you guys an adequate foundation for a rebuild in the aftermath of losing a #1 defenseman.

We could offer Lindholm just under 9 mil in an OS and the biggest losers would still be the Ducks- seeing as we have enough money coming off the roster/the cap is going to increase the next 1-2 years (with expansion revenue) to be able to re-sign McDavid and Draisaitl for a combined 16-17 million.

Edmonton can't offer sheet lindholm. We don't have our 2nd round pick next year.

I think the budget is okay if we're bringing back some wingers for our line up. Fowler and stoner clear up the 7.5 , I think we still save 500k while filling position of needs. We have defense up the wazoo prospect wise.

I wouldn't mind a Lil underpayment for Fowler if we're losing stoner in process and gaining 2 players, 1 that is a serviceable top 6 forward and the other I feel still has potential to be at least 20 goal guy.

That scenario proposes moving one of RNH/Nuge, not both.

Keeping the other while still retaining McDavid, Lucic, Draisaitl, Puljujarvi- and having prospects like Benson/Caggiula in the pipeline- means that we could more than live with the aftermath of some lost firepower up front.

You can claim it would take Mc David to 'get the conversation started' .......but it doesnt make it so.

That's a great theory, if lindholm could be had for a 1st and 2nd next year, every team would have already offered that.

My main point is you are paying 6 (5) firsts to over pay a player... when in reality you could prob get it done for klefbom + or draI. ItS not good asset management but if they thought that was the best move good on them

The fact that half your fan base is willing to pay 4 firsts for him basically makes your theory and offer extremely laughable

I'm not saying they should do it, just looking at the long term cap valuations and with a hypothetical line up once McDavid signs his long term extension, this is assuming all of RNH + Eberle + Draisaitl are even kept.

Lucic (6) McDavid (9.7) Puljujarvi (1.4?)
Pouliot (4) RNH (6) Eberle (6)
Cagiulla (2.5) Draisaitl (6) blank (1.5)
blank (1) blank (2) blank (1.5)

Lindholm (7) Larsson (4.1)
Klefbom (4.1) Nurse (3)
Sekera (5.5) Bear (1)

Talbot (4.1)
Back-Up (1.5)

= 78.6 million

You wouldn't have a ton of money for your bottom pairing or 4th line, but it's doable. Cap will probably be close to $80 million by this time. Pouliot's 4 mill cap hit comes off the books the following year, so that can very nicely be used for Puljujarvi's extension.

They'd be better off just over paying for him in a trade and getting him signed to a decent contract.

Say it went through and you paid 7.50 for him, to resign mcdavid in a couple years your basically going to lose drai. + 4 first round picks and likely couple other guys that want too much money. Yes lindholm helps you guys a lot but your essentially going to lose 5-6 firsts in the process.

This exactly.

Offer sheets are just playing with fire, especially with a player as valuable as Lindholm. Anaheim will figure it out and sign him within the next couple of days.

Ya could get a little dicey, could work out its a gamble really, and unfortunately losing those 4 firsts means you likely have a crap shoot prospect pool, so not much replenishment there. Puljujarvi numbers going to be inflated by mcdavid could easily see him in the 6 range if he plays on mcdavid line the whole time.

Oilers are the last team that should be offer sheeting anyone. We've made some nice moves to improve this summer so far. Barring a repeat of the injuries from last year, we should be a competitive team this year. Our D is young (klefbom, Larsson & nurse) will improve in the coming years. Time to makes smart choices with money and young players.

lmao even after vatanen signed that good contract, yall are still proposing that ****** proposal. It would probably take Drai after that Hall trade. Especially because its in division

Thanks. Too bad my offer was 2 firsts and a 2nd. I didnt know he could be got for a 1st and second.

2 firsts and a 2nd is the offer sheet equivalent of 7.5 -9.3 mil for 4 years max.

edit : Its now 2 firsts 2nd and 3rd . Adding the 3rd is fine.

So instead of putting the Ducks in a position to match a ridiculous offer as this, and then REVENGE OFFER SHEET Draisaitl and Nurse, (Mcdavid would be signed long before he hit RFA) ...............just offer what the compensation would be and see if the Ducks find it acceptable or want to sign him.

Makes sense no?

Agree with this as well. But on the flip side they've offer sheeted us before so anything is possible aka the Penner scenario.

You skip over the post where I explained that I was joking? But you're being awfully optimistic about your scenario there chief.
