Anaheim easily makes lindholm the highest paid dman in the history of the league? Hedman just signed for under 8. Anaheim would have a very hard time giving lindholm 9.3 x 7.

A 46.9 million dollar contract is 6.7 million per year, for 7 years.

Unhappily, but yes. They'd sign it. Just because they want to get the best deal doesn't mean they wouldn't sign him to about 6.7m a year.

Alternatively, if Lindholm is really after bigger money like that, he could just go straight to Anaheim and they could add on an 8th year(something Edmonton can't offer), knock off some of that salary, and blow Edmonton's offer out of the water.

The thing for me is that offer was the mac to be under the 4 1st for 7 years.

That deal is yes an overpayment but also an easy match.

That is why I consider the 7 million @ 2 years deal.
If he believes in his skills he can then get afterwards a 7.5-8 deal for 8 years afterwards.

Depends on if he is a risk taker like ROR or not. I really don't see him signing an offer sheet though they do rarely get signed

He is on the record as wanting security. So, you're wasting your time with that angle.

That route contradicts what Lindholm has said, which is that he wants security. A 2 year contract isn't security. Even if Lindholm believes in his skills, which I'm sure he does, that isn't putting yourself in a secure, stable position. Injuries are part of the game, and Lindholm knows this as well as anyone, having missed half a season with a concussion.

Objectively, what would you rather do? Put yourself in a position where you can spend the next decade in Southern California, with your financial future secured, and playing the sport you love, or take the mercenary route and not know where you'll end up in the future? Not knowing where you'll be in two years, or even if you'll still be able to play.

Like I said at the end don't think he signs one

But 14 million dollars is already a nice living.

6x6 and he gets his 36 million. Doesn't matter to me I'm not an edmonton fan or ducks fan. I just put myself as a player and think what would I do to maximize earnings.

An extra 22M guaranteed is a much better living. Especially when at least half of that money never makes it to his pocket.

Plus a player of the calibre that Lindholm is, both sides want to lock up term. No point in a bridge deal for your best asset. Sign him to max term without question.

How high would Edmonton have to go to get the Ducks to not match? The Ducks have 14.8M in cap space with only 8F signed and still need a backup G as well. They also want to ice a good team and have an internal budget of an unknown amount. Ideally I'd love a 46.9M 7yr deal to keep the RFA compensation under 4 1sts. But if it requires 4 1sts, I am cool with that too.

Obviously a 7yr deal would be needed. 7M? 7.5M? 8M? How high would Edmonton have to go to pry Lindholm away from the Ducks?

So intently discussed and finally yielded in the Oilers analytics community and most of the leading Analytics people is the HSCA D. the position I have pushed since 06-07

there are 25- 33 (29 avg) shots in a game.

17- 20 (18.5 avg) shots largely from .915 to .995 save% area (LSCA)
ie they go in 0.5 to 8.5% of the time.

there are 7.5 to 13.5 shots largely from .915 to .800 save% area (HSCA)
ie they go in 8.5 to 20% of the time.
you kind of wan the Dmen who give up 7.5 worse than league average save % shots.

There is a site that posts this as expected GA for a dman.

when you look at the best in the game at preventing SA and HSC shots you see Pronger; Lidstrom; Hjarlmasson; Doughty.

The last 2 years #1 is Adam Larsson.
There was a question if A. greene drove this.
but it is clear that WOWY says Larsson both offensively and Defensively.

Hampus lindholm is one of the low Sa and elite HSCA D.
but the defensive side of the game looks to be driven by Manson.
Whowever he is still an elite HSCA D.

Now the oilers are allowed to protect 8 Skaters in the Expansion.

We are going to protect the 5th best HSCA save% goalie in Talbot.
1. Price
2. Holtby
3. Schnieder
4. Lundquist
You want to see a goalie who is a victim letting there best HSCA D leave. (stralman)
and
the collapse of an elite HSCA D 1st comp pair to bottom 20 HSCA Mcdonagh and Giarrdi
5. Talbot
Thanks Mact for arranging that one with Sather!

We have Sekera on a NMC
and
now have 3 top 60 HSCAD.
Larsson 1st comp #1 Even and PKGA D.
Klefbom 1st comp top 60 HSCAD and Top 16 PKGA D
Davidson 2nd comp top 30 HSC AD and top 15 PKGA D.
Nurse, Paigin exempt.

That leaves 4 forwards or D or any combo of.
Lucic NMC
Draisatl #18 EVP/60 Forward last year.
Eberle top 20 EVG forward
RNH PvP center.

Mcdavid and JP exempt

According to many here Hall would bring back Lindholm+

It would be Hall + + for Lindholm. Plus it would be a trade in division, both sides would avoid.

Smaller deals, I'm good with in division, bigger deals avoid.

The Avs will go 4 + 4 for sure. Zadorov is the most valued out of the obvious ones.

Will likely lose either Varlamov or Pickard or Soderberg or Grigorenko (depending on who plays better).

Pickard is the one I'm scared to lose, a lot of potential there.

This statement is a very good example of why you can't scout hockey players using a calculator.

Interesting text, but...

If you really had a stellar stats trio in Klef, Sekera and Davidson... and an elite top5 goalie in the league. Then why is oilers NHL bottom 4 in goals against?

None of the above are 1st pair let alone elite, except Larssony is a very solid 1st pair D. Your reality is warped...

Anaheim can't match any offer over 9 mill anyway, since they/we still have to resign Rakell AND get 4-5 more players to even get a full roster this season..

Wouldn't Hall+ for Lindholm been a better deal?

For Edmonton yes. He's both better than Larsson right now, younger, and has higher upside. But Anaheim isn't trading Lindholm unless its something incredible. He's a minimum top-20 defender in the NHL at age 22 and rising fast. By the time these past playoffs came around he was on cloud 9, and I'm betting that continues next season.

The corsi gaps in this article are large enough to say big things about this player, in addition to his career season averages of +20 and 31 pts.
