Damn wonder what Correa was thinking.. there had to be better offers out there (including the Jays). I think he just wanted to go to the twins
Im willing to bet the Jays weren't willing to commit to the same opt out structure as the Twins. Moving Bichette off SS just for Correa to leave in the offseason and then you've lost a year of SS development with Bichette or you get a replacement and commit to him at 2B.

Not a lot of risk for Correa here, essentially gets another shot at FA next year or if he sucks/blows out his knee he has a 100 million guaranteed.

Massive W for the Twins. They somehow got the Yankees to take Donaldson's contract off their books and they sign an elite SS for up to 3 years. This will also give Royce Lewis some time to actually play baseball in the minors after essentially a 2 year hiatus (Covid 2020, torn ACL early 2021).

This is looking like a fun season.
How great would it be if big-league Nate became minor-league Nate.

Looks like this might be the lineup for todays game

With the Yankees pipeline of shortstops, I still sympathize with the move. Donaldson is going to mash back in the AL East and they're still in on Story. Still a world out there where they run Donaldson-Volpe-Story-Rizzo next year with plenty of money to resign Judge and even take a stab at DeGrom.

The Correa contract got me interested if something similar could be done with Conforto. But with Bryant getting 180 million and Correa doing a short term deal it’s almost impossible to guess the term.

Sign conforto, 2 years 50 m with player opt out after 1st year.
Biggio, Kirk, Groshans, Kloff, Jimenez for Ramirez (2 years) + Clase (5 years control) I might even add Pearson if we could get Clase.

By end of year

1) Springer
2) Conforto
3) Gurrerro
4) Ramirez
5) Teoscar
6) Bichette
7) Chapman
8) Gurriel
9) Moreno

Jansen, Espinal, Grichcuk

I'd be in for Conforto, but sounds like he is not vaccinated. That would have to change or the rules would need to change for it to work for us.

After a wild week, the Blue Jays and Dodgers have historic potential

Maybe they should add an offseason transaction deadline in baseball's next CBA to recreate the frenzy of activity that's occurred since the lockout ended. It's helped the game quickly put the ugly shutdown behind it, and some teams have taken advantage.

Two teams, in particular, were already among the top contenders: The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays. This week, they have turned their already very good lineups into otherworldly groups. The clubs could rival the 2001 Seattle Mariners, 2016 Chicago Cubs, and 2019 Houston Astros - the best position-player groups of this century.

They'll only have plenty of money if they decide to blow through the luxury tax.

their payroll is at 217million already, this isnt the same bottomless pockets organization as before, the media was saying they didnt sign a big FA because then they wouldnt be able to sign judge.

Yeah it seems like the Yankees have decided to be a team that stays under the CBT. I expect them to bring Judge back but I think the days of the Yankees scooping up the top free agent every year are behind us until there is a shift in ownership values anyways.
