Anyone think next season may be the last for Williams and Stoll? Younger forwards needing playing time, cap space for Toffoli, Pearson, Amart, and Muzzin.

Stoll and Williams aren't that old. Yeah, they'll need the cap space for the players you mentioned, but not sure I see any other young guys ready to step in for Stoll and Williams quite yet.

Maybe guys like Vey and Andreoff will be the 13th/14th forwards on the roster, but I don't see anyone in the pipeline who we can pencil in as a sure fire NHL ready player. At least not next season. Who knows how much that'll change in two years though.

The scorers that may need room in my mind are Vey, Porkins, and Zykov. They could be a ways off but you never know.

Maybe a guy like Mearsh eventually replaces King. Maybe Andreoff can replace Lewis eventually.

I would like to see Stoll and Williams retire as Kings but there will come a day when you need to replace higher contracts with cheap young talent for cap reasons alone.

Lots can happen between now and then. Happy they will get a chance to defend the cup again.

Vey isn't ready yet. He stillb gets muscled off the puck too easy.

He might learn from Tofollis "punishment" of starting in the minors and have an insane off season and surprise me

And there's no position for him, unfortunately. Other than McNabb, who's a lock, I think Andreoff may be the only other prospect that make the team out of camp. However, I have my fingers crossed for Weal. Weally!

He is just not a very good center, something happened over the last year to make him lose a lot of (Jam in his game). Vey is about average in everything a Center does (awful on draws).

Vey's skill set (now) looks to be more suited to wing, but the Kings were dead set he play Center.

Shore is much better Center, with the proper Center skill set. I am starting to think Vey benefited a lot from Pearson/Toffoli being on his wings.

Weal is a better Center as well if you ask me.

Shore is a beast in the face-off circle.

Stoll is gone after next year. Time for Shore to take that spot.

That's provided Shore continues to improve. Last year plenty of folks thought Vey was a sure fire bottom six/Fringe top six Center. Now it looks like Vey may not even make the NHL as a Center at all.

None of these Prospects are given spots or guaranteed NHLer's. They have to earn that right. Which is exactly how the Kings should operate.

We can afford to re-sign King ($1.5-2) and Mitchell ($2.5-3), and carry one of McNabb or Vey ($.8-1.2) on the roster.

Or if we let Mitchell go we carry both and have an extra $1.3-2.6 to upgrade a bottom 6 winger. I.E. trade Clifford+ for someone like Nick Foligno.

Or don't sign Mitchell, save the space, and be able to add 4-5 mil in expiring contracts at the deadline. (Begin Bobby Ryan speculation)

Stoll, although not showing up much on the stat sheet, is incredibly good at a few things: leadership, taking faceoffs and his physical play. That being said - it is critical that we keep Williams over him and use one of our Manchester guys to take his spot. I'm sure Dean will try to keep him, though...he doesn't want to break up this team.

Considering both Vey and McNabb are both not waver exempt you have to think we are carrying both of them. But I would think McNabb is more important to the team just because he was mentioned as an important piece in that trade.

True, but if you still want to retain Mitchell and not lose the other two, you can just part with Nolan instead.

Id would love to some how to get Foligno.
I would trade King and try and sign someone like Mason Raymond, he would bring some scoring depth to our 3rd line along with some much added speed.

Interesting all the talk over Matt Greene and Marian Gaborik the last few days and not a ****ing thing about Willie Mitchell.

Have they even been in contact with each other?

I have no idea, but Lombardi went out and got McNabb for a reason. Knowing he couldn't be sent down next year and everything. He acquired Regehr before Scuderi left the year before. Mitchell's open spot would be a chance to get a young guy on the roster. Lombardi is always trying to think a step or two ahead.

Stoll is gone after next year. Time for Shore to take that spot.

I don't know who this Shore guy is, but if you can guarantee he can match Stoll in face-off percentage, then I'm all for it.

Good luck with that.

With all the hot women Stoll gets in SoCal he may sign an extension for 1.00
Except with that contract he won't be seeing many hot SoCal women :sarcasm:

so we have approx 5.7m and we need to sign Mitchell, King, Mcnabb, Vey, Andreoff and Shultz - is there a max no. of players we can have against the cap ? So you have to think Mcnabb and King for about 2.5 combined so I would say we get Mitchell we lose the other 3 - no Mitchell we could sign them all (we could offer Shultz a deal after waivers if he cleared)

or knowing Dean we sign King and Mcnabb on good deals and then we pick up a star for 3.5m from somewhere ha ha (trade Vey and Nolan and move up the draft and get a steal) ha ha - wouldn't count anything out now

My math gives us a little under 3 million without signing Mitchell. I want some cash for the trade deadline so Magician Lombardi can do his thang.

Mitchell is moving on unless the Kings run 8 D.

Wouldn't mind seeing J. Schultz get another contract around 1M and put in Manchester.... could lose him to waivers or maybe he just wants to retire. Wouldn't mind seeing him as a 6/7D, but the D is pretty much set for next year.

King, resigned around 1.5M... too effective to let go at his cap hit.

This leaves 1 of Clifford, Lewis, Nolan, Andy, Vey getting cut.

Lewis is probably the most versatile. So he probably isn't going any where.

Clifford/Nolan.... most of us have probably been hoping they can take the next step.

Andy: I'd like to see him given a shot before bailing on him.

Vey: Richards is not going to be the 4th line center next year. If he is he will be moved. So the Kings need a 4th line Center. Vey is probably the best answer out of the group. Sure there's Weal/Shore/Porky(maybe) but those guy can clear waivers.... would rather give Vey a shot for a month or so to see what he can do. With Richards moving back up the line up Toffoli could be on the 4th line again. Maybe Vey/Toffoli could have some chemistry? Sutter would love Vey/Toffoli on the 4th... rofl...

My guess is one of Clifford/Nolan/Andy move on. Vey could follow, but I'd like to see him given a shot before waiving him.

Vey could follow, but I'd like to see him given a shot before waiving him.

If we lose Vey to waivers, I am going to bring this post back up years from now to show everyone what a mistake that was. You can't teach on-ice vision and hockey smarts. This guy has it. You don't score at a point per game pace the last two years in the A and not be a very talented player. Yep, he needs to ramp up his "compete" level and strength. He is not as strong in the face off circle as he needs to be, which may make him a better choice on right wing. But he can play. Just like Pearson and Toffoli. Let's hope he plays so well in camp that the staff's hand is forced.
