If we lose Vey to waivers, I am going to bring this post back up years from now to show everyone what a mistake that was. You can't teach on-ice vision and hockey smarts. This guy has it. You don't score at a point per game pace the last two years in the A and not be a very talented player. Yep, he needs to ramp up his "compete" level and strength. He is not as strong in the face off circle as he needs to be, which may make him a better choice on right wing. But he can play. Just like Pearson and Toffoli. Let's hope he plays so well in camp that the staff's hand is forced.

These guys want a word with you:

If he forces his way on he deserves it. If not, the road to the NHL is littered with AHL and Junior allstars just like him.

True, but if you still want to retain Mitchell and not lose the other two, you can just part with Nolan instead.

Mitchell is gone. When the Kings extended Greene it pretty much spelt it out. I'm a big fan of Mitchell and one of his family members is dating a family member of my wife. No inside information, just that it was obvious when Greene signed, that Mitchell was gone.

Yeah I agree, and its too bad, but I take Gaborik and Greene over Mitchell, if that's what its boiled down to.

I wouldn't shut the door on Mitchell just yet. While signing Greene would seem to be the end of Mitchell, we still don't know what's on the mind of Lombardi. I'm thinking if Mitchell wants to come back for a 1 yr at a reasonable rate, I can see him coming back.

I can see Mitchell still re-signing. But if he does you'd have to assume Regher would on his way out.

Since you are so high on him, maybe you can baby-sit the guy so that he can make practice on time.

Predictions/Hopes:

-Jordan Nolan traded for pick
-Re-sign Andreoff, Berube, King, McNabb, Vey, Schultz.

Gaborik-Kopitar-Williams
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
King-Stoll-Williams
Clifford-Richards-Lewis
*Vey/Weal/Andreoff/Sabourin

Muzzin-Doughty
Regher-Voynov
Martinez-Greene
*McNabb/Bodnarchuk

I haven't heard too much about Mitchell, but it's safe to assume that he wanted longer term than what DL was willing, correct?

I'm thinking it's both term and money. And since it is a 35+ deal that makes it a big risk. And the Kings wanted McNabb so there needs to be a spot for him or risk losing him on wavers.

If it's both, then Mitchell clearly doesn't understand what it takes to be a king. I've always liked Mitchell, and wished he could be here for the B2B, but it's his choice.

Because of it being a 35+ contract any added term makes it about money. We could sign him on a 1 year deal with bonuses and pay him more than we probably should. But it would give the team flexibility.
But I can understand if he want 2-3 years knowing it is his last contract. And he has made 3.5M the last 8 years. Not sure he wants a cut and with the cap going up he might actually feel he should get a small raise.

According to capgeek.com, the Kings have over $5.7M in cap space (assuming the cap ceiling is $71.1M).

Signing King at $1.25M and Mitchell at $3M would push the Kings very close to the cap with slightly over $600K in space remaining, so I'm thinking if the Kings do bring Mitchell back, it will have to be at less than a $3M cap hit.

Ya gonna regulate?

It's probably up to Mitchell(they way I see it), I would imagine Lombardi offered a one year deal around the same money Mitchell made last year.

I can't see Lombardi offering Mitchell two more years.

Dude, we're talking AHL all-stars and you left out http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=26796 ???

Repressed memories. Thanks a lot.
