I have to wonder what some of you guys are watching? Nolan, with penalty issues??? Nolan had a game or two where he had some questionable penalties, but he's nothing like Stoll, Greene or even Doughty. If anything, Nolan draws lot more penalties with his hits and skating away.

This was Nolan's best year! I got nothing but love for Nolan!!!

Agreed 100% PJB.

I said it before the year the only way the Kings could beat Chicago was to add an elite goal-scoring winger and have someone like Brown or Williams be able to contribute significant offense from the third line. The Kings were never going to beat Chicago with a King-Stoll-Lewis third line and Clifford-Fraser-Nolan 4th line.

They not only got that player in Gaborik but Pearson also established himself as a 2nd line LW and that enabled the Kings to free Jeff Carter up to play C between the two young players, move Williams to 3rd line and Richards to 4th line, giving the Kings four lines that were a threat to score.

Just think about this and just how much better this team was in just a year. In the 2013 playoffs the Kings had 0 even strength goals in 18 games from bottom six players, in this years playoffs the Kings had 14 ES goals from bottom six players in 26 games. That is an absolutely amazing turnaround.

Yes, almost like those stupid Discover Card commercials...you and I agree and are on the same page with this. The numbers you just wrote don't lie. Gaborik and Pearson forced 2 good players to the bottom 6 and Williams / Brown / Richards made those lines better and players better. This WAS the difference. Scoring more goals than any King team in recent history. Quick was very good, but not great like in 2012. The D wasn't quite as good as in 2012. It was the #1 offense and a team that could score goals when needed.

Keep Nolan and move Clifford AND King. Clifford is one concussion away from a farm job in Ayr and King is set to get a raise and his value has never been higher.

If it wasn't for this goal back in 2010, I don't think Kings fans would have as much optimism in Kyle Clifford's future play as they still do.

Everyone can raise their hand and admit it - This is a safe place. You're with safe people.

This is all very true. The concussions are scary and each subsequent one, it gets
worse.

Nolan - remains. I still feel he has a higher potential offensive upside than Clifford. Has shown the resolve to stick his nose into more situations than Clifford has the past few seasons. Nolan is still a better skater than Kyle with better top end speed.

Clifford - move in a trade for assets, he will net a better return than Nolan i believe. he is a better known player among the league than Jordan. his skating has improved tremendously, but he has scaled back his physical presence the past few seasons. i am concerned about the concussion factor and can only guess, but still feel this is why he has scaled back on physical play.

King - softest big man on the ice for LA. to me that is a liability. he doesn't have the skating/speed, or goal scoring touch. if he doesn't possess these skill sets then he needs to play the body, but he doesn't. i know his possession metrics are high, but this guy has peaked. he isn't going to get any quicker or improve his skating at this point. his scoring touch which some thought was high, hasn't shown signs of increasing or consistency the past season plus. personally i feel he ranks right behind Lewis when it comes to ability to score with the puck on his stick. i would like to see Dean move him for picks/prospect.

Mitchell/Greene - we can only keep one due to salary cap. personally i say re-sign Willie to a 2-year low cap hit if possible. i think Matt's style of play has caught up to him and his body is slowing down. which ever returns is platooned as the 6-7D along with McNabb. this way they slowly advance McNabb into the line up, while preserving the vet for the late push and playoffs.

Gaborik - needs to be re-signed asap to maintain the lines as is. i pray he isn't asking for the $7 to 7.5M he made on this salary. i hope Dean can get him on a 3-year at $5.5 - 6M contract. the $$$'s and term would fit perfectly into Dean's plan i am certain.

Lombardi - needs to open some space to move some of the MAN kids up and start getting them into the NHL game. i don't feel he can sit like he did after the 2012 SC and roll with the same line up. we saw what happened to them during that time and i strongly feel he needs to inject youth and energy into the line up. each season there has to an injection to keep the competitiveness high and also bring energy into the room. he needs to show the 'kids' there is room on the NHL roster, but they have to EARN it. this won't happen without opening a few spots on the roster.

my views are the same as almost everyone here, so it isn't some earth shattering surprise.

Was listening to NHL radio on sirius last night. West coast bias guy was saying the general consencious was that Gabby was already done for 3 years @5 or 5.5. Supposed to of been done prior or right at beginning of playoffs- If this turns out true WOW. Also said Mitchell was wanting to stay bad, this was the first time in a long time he had a clean bill of health upon his end of year coach meeting, sounds good to me!

6.5/year is a fair deal, higher is open market value. If really interested, another team will offer him 7-8.
6/yr is close to ideal/expected.
5.5 is a hometown discount.
5 or less is flat out ****ing larceny for a player of Gabby's caliber, injury risk nonwithstanding. The guy is a multiple-season and multiple-team 40-goal scorer, one of the most dynamic players and scorers of his generation. He's maybe not going to continue to be the same player he was in his 20s, but wow.

Game 5 of the SCF was probably Clifford's best in a Kings uniform.

He was cooking in game 4 too. And don't forget his timely goal in game 1. And causing confusion for the Rangers D on the Cup clinching goal.

Some posters here crack me up. As long as Sutter is coach, King and Clifford are going nowhere. While I like Nolan and his increased speed, he earned his spot in Sutter's doghouse with his idiocy in the Shark series.

Then again, I don't see any reason to move him either.

If that is true, Dean officially just hit God status.

One thing about King, he hit 15 and 15 for 30 points last year, bouncing around due to injuries chemistry etc.

He's not a liability defensively, and like you said, he has high possession metrics, assuming he doesn't ask for earth shattering money, why would want to move, what in essence is a perfect 3rd line LW?

We have to remember that the Stoll deal in 2012 was done and they held it for almost 11 days after the cup win to announce. So we are still in that time frame. As long as it's done and announced before the 25th, when other teams can try and talk with Gabby.

when do we think it will be announced?

The NHL is trying out something new this season where they've created a negotiating window starting on June 25th where teams can talk to free agents, but can't sign them to official contracts until July 1st.

Dwight King scored 15 even strength goals, what do you think he could do if he got regular power play time. This guy could be the next Wayne Simmonds, or Tomas Holmstrom on the power play. Give him p.p time and see what he can do. If anyone gets traded it will probably be Clifford or Nolan, with Andreoff coming.

Imo there is no room for him on the PP, not skilled enough. You have kopi carter and Gabs on the 1st unit with brown, Williams, And tt on the 2nd with stoll and Richards sitting ready in case of injury.

We haven't seen the best of King or Clifford yet...we got a glimpse of the former in the 2012 playoffs in the 3rd round. We got a glimpse of the latter early in the 2013 regular season.

Also I could care less who returns what. We're trying get as much talent and effectiveness on this roster as possible. I don't care if one guy returns a 4th and another returns a 3rd. I'd trade all of those junk picks for another killer from Columbus or whoever at the deadline.

I firmly believe your right on both King and Clifford. However i think Clifford will be traded before we fully see what he can do. Hes getting better defensively and is getting time on the pk. However hes only playing less then 10 mins a game. He is not going to put up the numbers every one wants to see. I think when he gets 12 -14 mins his production will increase tremendously. King is getting that opportunity and is producing better. I would like to ideally trade King and his more expensive contract (resigning between 1.5 and 2 being rfa ) he would have good value being on a cheap contract league wide Also two shiny rings will help value. This would let Clifford play the mins needed.

That's really interesting and kinda makes sense. Is that just UFAs, though, or are RFAs included? I'm assuming just UFAs, otherwise that could get really interesting/sketchy...
