At this point in his d+1 season, Lane was producing a good amount better.

Cole: 29 pts in 28 games
Lane: 36 pts in 28 games
Kinda hard to determine how much difference that really is. They are playing with different players and Cole is also 4 months younger which might have been one of the reasons for his slow start. He have been very hot after the WJC and if you add in WJC in those stats its.

Cole: 40 in 35 games
Lane: 40 in 35 games

So quite equal the season as a whole.

4 month difference is nothing.
Adding the wjc stats is what makes the comparison unfair. Cole was averaging about 5 more minutes per game than Lane was, and he also scored half his pts in a blowout game against Germany.

Both Cole and Lane had similar roles for Boston, and their team had a similar goals/game pace. So they were in pretty similar situations.

You mention Cole has been hot since the WJC. He scored 15 pts in 12 games. Well Lane scored 18 pts in 12 games after his WJC in his d+1.

Some might say that the fact that Cole played 5 mins more a game than Lane is the effect and not the cause. And Lane had 9 points in 3 blowout wins against Maine his D+1. With any prospect you can go down the rabbit hole of which points and stats "count" and which don't. In the aggregate though it all evens out.

Lane had (up to this point) a better offensive NCAA season in his D+1 but Cole had a better D+1 WJC. What you count more is personal preference. Not that much more to it.

Yep. Based on their numbers in their respective years post draft, there is not much to indicate that Lane was better than Cole. It's a pretty small sample size and the point difference is small. Cole could easily turn out to be better than Lane and that statement is not meant to underestimate how good Lane is.
