1.075 M is 375k per contract vs. the cap. Three of those round out the depth and bring things closer to the floor.
I’m not following. Teams can bury up to the league minimum + 375k (1.125mil). So any 1mil deal in the minors is not counting against the cap at all.

Right, right, I was looking at the '21 number. Point still stands, AAAA guys on one-way deals are a way to soak some cap for next year and make the Amerks better at the same time.

Entire cap hits of one way contracts can’t be buried. There’s some (very little) residual money that stays up to prevent teams from filling their AHL team with a bunch of NHL guys. In Chain’s example, only $700K gets buried.

From cap friendly.

“The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:”

Meaning the first 1.125mil of any deal sent down gets buried.

I don’t know where the idea came from that it’s only 700k

I still don’t see how. Or that it’s even realistic to sign a bunch of AHLers to that kind of money.

Yea I thought it was only league minimum got buried if it was a one way contract.

Clearly I misread this: :biglaugh:

What is a Buried Contract?

Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.
The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:
  • 2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
  • 2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
  • 2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
  • 2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
  • 2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
  • 2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
  • 2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
  • 2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
  • 2022-23: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
  • 2023-24: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000
  • 2024-25: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000
  • 2025-26: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000

Ok, I have a new dream scenario. I never considered this before because the player sucks, but what if....

Toronto trades Mrazek to us with a significant sweetener (such as their 1st round pick) and then he goes on to win the Vezina for us and gets us into the playoffs.

And then we laugh while Leaf fans are bitching and crying.
Or sign Campbell make the trade for Mrazek with Sandin as the sweetener and enjoy the summer ☀️ 😁

i was kind of hopeful that we would maybe make a trade for a Goalie or RHD maybe sign a 4c and be somewhat competitive but i think KA just stands by and has another development year and tries to grab another top 10 pick for 23 draft

The thing is in my opinion i don't think we're far off from being competitive

Bjork/mid pick for Gudas + Hornqvist ( Clear cap for mancharment signing ) If not maybe Subban as 4d?
Sign Nutivaara as depth D / Bounce back candidate ?
Sign larson
sign / trade for a goalie (Stolarz had a great year maybe something for him?)
Sign my boy Halak

Skinner-TT-Tuch
Oloffson-Mittlestadt-X
Asplund-Cozens-Hornqvist/X
Girgenson-Larson-okposo
X = Quinn / JJP / Krebs

Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-Gudas/Subban
Nutivaara/Bryson-Jokiharju

Stolarz / Halak
UPL

That's a pretty good team not to mention we should be getting some decent players with our 3 1st this year

Lance Lysowski: If the Sabres add a young player, the move will be made to fortify their defense depth.

Carolina’s Ethan Bear is a player to watch here. Bear, 24, is a restricted free agent after an injury kept him out of the playoffs. He has a right-handed shot and a tough-as-nails skill set the Sabres need on the back end.

Any Ethan Bear fans out there?

Yes. He’d be a great add and wouldn’t cost much.

Pretty sure those qualities aren't allowed on Sabres players.

Pretty sure I've never seen Bear exhibit that as an on-ice personae. Ever. He's mostly a RHD PMD of slightly below average size. "Tough as nails" is just... no. I don't see that AT ALL.

Edit - I suppose it helps sell some Sabre fans on the idea of him rather than just saying "he's a good PMD who might come cheap because of his COVID long-haul issues late in this season". It also sets Bear up for being thought disappointing if he were to come to the team since he wouldn't playing "as advertised".

So how does having a million dollar player in Rochester increase our cap?

amount above AHL max which is $375K+ NHL min is still left as buried cap.

they could do something like this with UPL

salary around $1.2M 22-23 Primarily in AHL with some call ups
Salary around $2.0M 23-24 in NHL he plays 35+ NHLgames, Levi in Rochester
Salary around 2.8M 24-25 in NHL, him and Levi on Sabres Competing

The 3 yr cap hit is $2M…UPL buried cap hit would be just under $1M
He fought a Tkachuk once. Its a step in the right direction
Does having your face in the way of a fist count as a fight?

Does player contract insurance kick in if a player is out but kept on the roster? Let's say for example Okposo got hurt. They can't LTIR him because they'll be under the floor, but presumably they'd want insurance to pick up as much as possible. Does that still happen?

i feel like offersheets are dumb to talk about because they basically never happen, but i'd definitely be open to one on kakko. 4.2 mil is the max you could offer without giving up a 1st rounder and i think it puts the rangers in a tough spot.

edit: actually, never mind. i thought laf was also up for a new contract this year but was mistaken. salary would need to be in the 6 mil per year range, which would make the compensation a 1st + 3rd which we're ineligible for now anyways.

I would think they wouldn't LTIR him because LTIR is the exemption to go over the top of the cap. They would just have him on IR, like they did with Boychuk this past season.

Insurance though - that's something for someone like @dotcommunism who has more experience in SPC clauses.
