I wonder how desperate Toronto is to move on from Mrazek? They've got $7M in cap space, and with 10 forwards and 5 defenseman under contract, they could certainly make common sense upgrades without smashing the cap.

But that doesn't seem to be Toronto's style. Moving Mrazek's $3.8M would help Toronto make some serious upgrades. Would Dubas move his 1st to get rid of Mrazek?

Not that desperate. A buyout isn't ideal, but its not bad. I'm sure Mrazek on 50% retention gets some return, even if its a 7th or future considerations. They could even package him in as part of a deal with Sandin

All that's possible. But I'm taking into consideration the position Dubas is in. He got the vote of confidence this off-season despite another 1st round exit. You have to think that won't happen again. What's he willing to do to make sure that happens?

A buyout makes sense if not under those circumstances. For Buffalo, that'd make sense. Maybe not for Toronto. As far as adding Mrazek to Sundin, Dubas would just be moving Sandin to get rid of Mrazek.

If Dubas thinks he's on a short leash, trading a 1st rounder is not out of the question.

They did to get rid of Marleau, wouldn't be shocked if they also did it to get rid of Mrazek.

Adams signed Dell. The only thing keeping him from acquiring Mrazek is his salary, and the second year on his contract.

Is this a comparable for Jacob Bryson's contract?

Eh, maybe. I tend to think Bryson's going to be somewhere from 1-1.5 million when all is done with his deal. Lauzon has some parts to his game that aren't comps to Bryson - Jacob is mobile and uses smarts and stick to defend while Lauzon is much more of a mangler back there.

Carolina drafted Jarvis with that pick.

If anything I think Toronto would be a little more cautious with the picks, because they let a pretty good one get away

Does player contract insurance kick in if a player is out but kept on the roster? Let's say for example Okposo got hurt. They can't LTIR him because they'll be under the floor, but presumably they'd want insurance to pick up as much as possible. Does that still happen?

being on IR or LTIR does not affect insurance. The injury time would. All LTIzR dies is create space for the team to fill out the roster if the team is against the cap.
Probably. Although I think Bryson will be cheaper.

it depends on what he signs for. A 1 yr deal might be low but a 2 yr deal will be higher. I see a $1.7M 2 yr contract.

Perfect, that's exactly the information I was seeking.

Can anyone explain to me why Chad D seems to have some obsession with Olofsson leaving when no other Sabres reporter has even hinted at it?

Obviously i can see the organization not being happy with oloffson performance during his drought. I could see sources mentioning that the team might move on at that time. But after his run at the end of the season, I can’t see that being the case. I think Chad and Friedman are reporting on outdated info personally
