I'm not old enough or have been watching long enough to know the Kent deal, but I will say this "reported" deal proposal just seems so un-AA. Giving up both D'Arnaud and Syndergaard would hurt too much. I will give AA the benefit of the doubt until its done that he won't give up that much.

I was either 17 and 18 or 18 and 19 during the ws wins and remember clearly. I remember us trading Kent and not being happy about it. You just knew he was gonna be great. I just can't see it being both but there's been nothing out saying anything to the contrary. Although, pretty much every report seems to be coming from one source so we'll have to wait and see but I'm really really hoping it's not both.

Espically if he comes with that 2 yr extension. Start JJ, pump his tires a bit. Let him pitch the opener in front of a sold out crowd so he can get used to it for the playoffs ;)

Sorry JJ is not our Ace, Morrow out performed him last year, but JJ did pitch a full season. IMO either Morrow or Romero(if he is back to old self) is your #1 opening day, JJ the #3.

1. Morrow
2. Romero
3. Johnson
4. Burhle
5. Happ/Dickey(if trade ever happens)

:yo:

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.

AA please listen to Kenny

yeah the reigning cy young winner will be the number 5 starter...and romero number 2...right

Nobody looks back at the Kent trade and thinks it was bad today, because of the two straight WS wins. Not very many people remember him let alone care they traded one of the best second basemen of all time for 2 months of David Cone.

Here's my take.

Playoffs are very random at times. Better to have multiple chances at it all then going all in over a short period.

so 3-5 years of gunning for the playoffs is a short period to you?

We've had the "multiple chances" "take it slow" scatter plan going on since the 90s and no playoffs. No worky.

You think we traded for a legit ace and when healthy a top 10-15 pitcher in the game to be our #3 guy??

That's the funniest thing I have heard in a while and is 100% wrong.

And if we got Dickey, he's our #5? How high are you?

Fair value back??? He's the reigning Cy Young winner ffs! Nobody knows what D'Arnaud is going to be - maybe he'll be great, maybe he'll be good, maybe he'll be total crap, or maybe he'll break his back next week and never play again.

Ugh.

1 year of a Cy Young winner for D'Arnaud and Syndergaard? I guarentee you if AA says no, and shops around he'll easily get more than that.

I understand he's a Cy Young winner. So does that mean he doesn't have a price? The Mets can expect anything in return? Nothing is too much? Get real, yes he's a Cy Young winner, but D'Arnaud and Syndergaard are the #1 and #3 prospects in one of the most stacked farms in baseball, both could turn into studs, and combined both could get more than Dickey back

If we acquire Dickey Romero is the 5th starter and there's not even a question about it. Romero should not be the opening day starter.

Because AA has already proven he can build an elite farm system in a few years and he has he 10th pick this draft to start the process again.

He was able to build a very good system largely because a) He got a prospect haul for the best pitcher in the game b) The compensation system was still in place, so we were able to grab lots of extra picks c) There was no spending cap at the draft, so we ended up among the top spenders every year.

Without those 3 advantages, I don't think AA can rebuild our farm system as quickly in the future.

ps: Not to mention that we shouldn't be drafting nearly as high in the next 3 years as we have been to date.

I don't think AA does the deal without an extension.

I know every one is going nuts about Dickey but looking over the bench I was wondering who's the extra infielder after Izturis and Cooper?

Just about to take my 4th hit :D

and now the rumour says were adding money to help cover Bucks salary. This stuff can't be right.

This.

The Jays have a good shot at the playoffs, and even a championship run with the roster as is, with the current roster. They just need to have some luck in that they need the younger players to progress in growth, and have the injury prone players to stay healthy.

Even with the addition of Dickey, the above risks don't change. The fact of the matter is there are plenty of question marks around the core players of this team right now that it's too risky (in my opinion) to start trading all of the top prospects for a shot at winning at all.

Can EE have a strong follow up season after his breakout campaign?
Will Bautista stay healthy all year?
Can Reyes' knees hold up on the Rogers Centre turf?
Can JJ and Morrow pitch a healthy 190+ innings all year each?
Does Romero rebound?
Can Janssen continue to close out games like he did last year, and is the bullpen actually deep enough?
Can Rasmus take a step forward and improve his hitting?

We're counting on a lot of breaks, and there's just too much uncertainty right now.

Bonifacio can play any position. And I don't think Cooper will be here unless there's an injury.

There isn't one.

You only go with a 4 man bench.

Back-up Catcher, Rajai Davis, Izturis(or Bonafacio) and Cooper(?)
