I have no problem with dealing prospects, and I would trade D'Arnaud for Dickey straight up(with Dickey extension), amybe even add in a weaker prospect but D'Arnaud and Syndergaard is straight up robbery by the mets. Ike Davis has got to be part of that deal.

I don't see how AA accepts the proposed deal, he will lose all the credit he got for the Marlins deal with a lot of fans.

See, this is why you sign free agents.

What would you rather have:

A 37 year old RA Dickey - Syndergaard - D'Arnaud

or

A 28 year old Anibal Sanchez + Syndergaard + D'Arnaud

Why not break the bank for Sanchez, and at least keep our best prospects

Why not go for Edwin Jackson, who's IMO better than Sanchez?

Johnson, Morrow, Jackson, Buehrle and Romero.

This allows us to keep our prospects, we can trade Buck/Lind for whatever and try to keep JPA and TDA in the lineup together, as AA believes he can do. JP as catcher, TDA playing first and catcher (backup) and EE at first and DH.

Everything is an overpayment here. Doesn't matter who it is.

Ridiculous statement. People were praising AA left and right for that blockbuster because they didn't give up much. Every trade other than Haap and Lincoln trade were seen as great trades. Now you can put this trade among those two but it wasn't like Jays gave up a whole lot unlike here.

All the naysayers won't be whining on opening night when they actually see this guy pitch. He'll make you all forget about the precious prospects real quickly.

I suspect it'll be Dickey in game 2. They'll probably go power, knuckler, power to throw off the hitters

It all comes from TDA truth be told. I'm ok with giving up Syndergaard and if we added a guy like Gose to the deal, I'm good. But giving up TDA makes me extremely nervous. I'm a big TDA fan. I love his potential.

I agree. I'd be more ok with the deal if Gose was in there instead of TDA. This deal might hurt when its all said and done.

Why are we talking about Sanchez ? He already signed with the Tigers.

@Joelsherman1: But right now it's Dickey/Thole/prospect (told not elite) for d/Arnaud/Syndegaard/Buck/prospect (told not elite) #Mets #Bluejays

This deal sucks.

We're giving up way too much.

Rumors like this make me think that this deal, as reported, is BS

I'd rather sign Jackson too honestly ... Be an excellent addition for quality rotation depth

Espically if he comes with that 2 yr extension. Start JJ, pump his tires a bit. Let him pitch the opener in front of a sold out crowd so he can get used to it for the playoffs ;)

I was hoping that we were done with any big moves. We made some good moves, why not keep our prospects instead of trying to go all in.

Because AA has already proven he can build an elite farm system in a few years and he has he 10th pick this draft to start the process again.

While he is building the farm system he wants the pro team to take runs at the WS with the best talent he can obtain and the cy young winner is a pretty good player.

Making desperation moves because of past failures is a good way to insure future failures.

Nice quote. Total BS, but it sounds good.

1. Trading for a CY Young Pitcher might not be considered desperation to many people.
2. What past failures are you referring to? The Leafs are in another thread.

95% of these posters haven't even seen TDA and Syndergaard play, they just get man crushes from reading scouting reports. Our GM goes out an acquires the freaking 2012 Cy Young award winner and people are complaining. Unreal.

Doubtful. Not one person is saying they don't want Dickey. But there is no reason to pay the prospects we are potentially sacrificing to get him. I never forgot about Kent and I won't forget about these two.

It's amazing how no one actually cares about Dickey.

We're giving up a top ten prosp...whoa whoa whoa the answer is no

But if you just let me f...no, I said no

Nope. Make him 5th starter to begin. Then sign him to a cheap extension. After all, he's just a 5th starter... ;)

Did I says overpayment was in reference to the Jays? No. Everything means everything. Prospects are coveted more than championships with a lot of you

How does the Mets leaking this TDA/Syndegaard info drive up the value of Dickey? I don't see the logic behind that - doesn't make sense.

Dickey gives us a guaranteed championship? Does it even give us a guaranteed playoff spot? No, I didn't think so.

I'm not old enough or have been watching long enough to know the Kent deal, but I will say this "reported" deal proposal just seems so un-AA. Giving up both D'Arnaud and Syndergaard would hurt too much. I will give AA the benefit of the doubt until its done that he won't give up that much.

imo it will be tougher to rebuild the farm this time. 3 of the big prospects he got were from the Halliday trade, then as far as drafting goes, we've had a lot of picks recently because of the supplemental rounds, etc. Haven't they changed the rules on that? Plus the more we win the later out picks will be.

I don't doubt that he can rebuild the farm but it won't be as easy, as we'll likely have less draft picks and no prospects from a trade unless we blow it up which nobody wants.

I got no problem with selling the farm, but you gotta be getting fair value back, you don't just throw 2 or 3 elite prospects at someone because you can. If you're not getting fair value keep them and get better value for them later, whether that be trade deadline, or next offseason, or keeping D'Arnaud and watch him turn into an elite player.

One question. If they Jays win the World Series within the next three years, will you still care that we gave up a couple of top prospects?

Makes other teams think they're gonna have to pay to get Dickey.

Then when the Jays/Mets deal "doesn't work out" they go to someone else and maybe get a better starting offer from that GM because the Mets inflated the price.

Fair value back??? He's the reigning Cy Young winner ffs! Nobody knows what D'Arnaud is going to be - maybe he'll be great, maybe he'll be good, maybe he'll be total crap, or maybe he'll break his back next week and never play again.

Ugh.

Here's my take.

Playoffs are very random at times. Better to have multiple chances at it all then going all in over a short period.
