I don't think you can give up Gose either though.

In two years, Melky's probably gone, JB has gotta move to 1B/DH and that leaves us with Rasmus and Davis. Gotta keep Gose.

We've been thinking of this as JPA + something for Dickey. It's Gose + something for Dickey. JP is the throw-in.

Which sucks, because I really want to hold onto Gose. But c'est la vie - gotta give to get.

I concur, you do not trade a top 10 hitting prospect who plays a premium position, and is cost controlled for 6 years. As much as I like Dickey, he is not worth D'Arnaud, I am however perfectly comfortable with trading Gose and Arencibia.

If we trade Gose we will could be looking for 3 outfielders in 2-3 years.

Melkey will be gone, Batts will be pretty old for RF and Rasmus is 1 more sub par season away from being a bust.

I'd rather have Happ start then give up any of the players named so far. Dickey is a good pitcher, but he's so old. I hate giving up really young players for guys who might have 2-3 years left.

Yeah, there's probably no chance we can find or develop any decent outfielders in that timeframe.

It's interesting how concerned we all are about future homegrown options for the outfield when our current very good one is composed of a former scrub, a free-agent signing coming off a steroid suspension and a high potential former malcontent that was traded for.

We traded our last future outfield cornerstone for a reliever and look at how that turned out.

I don't like giving up gose, but if it was Arencibia & Gose for Dickey & Niese, I take that and run.

Well yea you would have to but I dont think that is likely. Most people in here are talking about JPA and Gose for just Dickey. And IMO that creates a big hole in the OF going forward.

BTW when you do make the set of avatars for next season please make me one that has AA dressed like a Jedi.

I don't understand the "3 years down the road...." talk. We haven't made the playoffs in 20 years... let that sink in for a bit. Never mind the leafs struggles... 20 years without playoffs. With Dickey our rotation would be one of the best in the league, with a great lineup top to bottom and solid D. A true contender for the World Series. Forget the down the road stuff... I understand now letting go of D'Arnaud lets say but if it's Arencibia and Gose you take that and run with it at this point.

Melky will be 30. Same age range as Bourne, Victorino and pagan this winter. No reason to assume he's gone. He could just as easily be signed to an extension next winter if he plays well this season, re-writing the second year of his current deal. And Rasmus will be Melky's age. No reason to think he wouldn't re-up with a team that's winning and has shown patience and faith with him while he finds his game.

In short, if the Jays want those two guys back, they'll be back.

But yeah, I'd prefer not to move Gose.

I think a ninja is more appropriate.

I'm more worried about Rasmus flaming out than not resigning. At the very least out OF depth takes a huge hit without Gose.

I would rather the Jays become a team that competes for years than goes all in on a 1 or 2 year shot.

Thank you.

At first I disliked the thought of giving up Gose but c'mon. How long will Sox be bad? Yanks are going to be worse next year but that won't be the case a lot of times, Tampas rotation took a hit short term but that team going forward is tough (just maybe not next year), O's I don't expect a year like last year, our time to go is next season. Jump at this opportunity.

Pick your poison:

Face Johnson, Dickey or Morrow in October with Romero the occasional start

On the flip side, the Jays could sign a FA OF, a prospect from the farm could emerge and/or Rasmus could break out; I wouldn't worry about what if's too much. I'm more concerned with acquiring R.A. Dickey at a reasonable price.

People need to stop bringing up Dickey's age, really. Yeah, he's 38 but with his pitching style, his "arm" is probably several years younger.

Draft and develop any probably not. It takes years to do so in most cases.

And why overpay to sign 1 when we have a great one in Gose developing.

Because trading him today when he's still developing to become a great contributor to the big club means we can actually get a piece which contributes right now giving us a better chance of getting into the playoffs, winning the division and the world series.

I don't usually start on those until we get into spring training. Especially this year when we'll be waiting on multiple players to get pics in the Blue Jays jersey.

Gonna suck a little bit this year though because my easy source for Jays pics, Daylife, has decided to stop hosting their own picture archive for view online.

agreed, but it doesn't make me any less nervous. d'Arnaud is the most untouchable from my perspective, so that one gets to me more. Gose is probably #3 or #4 behind the remaining 2 of the Lansing pitchers, but we're gonna need another OF soon enough and you can't really match the kind of package that Gose brings in terms of speed and D.

If there's any positivity to think of, it's that all the big names were in the Marlins mega-deal rumors and in the end all we lost was Hech and Nicolino.

I agree with you completely, in my mind there are only a handful of players in the league that I would trade D'Arnaud for. The alternative (JPA) also increases his importance to the long term stability of this franchise.
