If we didn't blink at the winter meetings since we already loaded up with the Miami deal, I see no reason we would decide to now. It is the Mets afterall who have failed to extend Dickey and if teams like Texas are backing out over Olt it really solidifies our position that we are keeping one of the top prospects in the game for a 38 year old player.

agreed, but it doesn't make me any less nervous. d'Arnaud is the most untouchable from my perspective, so that one gets to me more. Gose is probably #3 or #4 behind the remaining 2 of the Lansing pitchers, but we're gonna need another OF soon enough and you can't really match the kind of package that Gose brings in terms of speed and D.

If there's any positivity to think of, it's that all the big names were in the Marlins mega-deal rumors and in the end all we lost was Hech and Nicolino.

Were gonna need a few outfielders going forward imo. Rasmus is still a huge question mark, Melky is only signed short term and in a couple years Joey Bats should be moved to first or DH. Bonifacio could possibly fill on of those spots but Gose is the only other guy we have that isnt 4 or 5 years away.

TDA isn't happening. I can't see the Jays giving up TDA for a 38 year old pitcher with one year remaining on his deal. If this was a young controllable frontline starter, then yeah TDA would probably be in the mix, but for Dickey? I don't think so. If TDA can avoid getting traded in that blockbuster, I am just going to assume he won't be in any Dickey deal either.

Agreed, unless AA has just totally gone mad and said ******* it, we're going all in.

Im on that boat that doesn't want either of Gose or D'Arnaud in the package. If Gose, D'Arnaud, Sanchez, and Syndergaard are out of it i'm good. As others have stated, we need Gose to eventually replace Melky/Bautista (if J.Bau is eventually moved to 1B/DH) in the OF or else we'll have to pay big through trade or FA for a replacement.

Although if Dickey signs an extension his trade value rises. I could actually see AA dealing D'Arnaud but along with Gose..arg that would be tough.

But let's not forget how good Dickey is. He threw how many 1 hitters last season? 3-4? Pretty damn good. Reigning CY Young winner. Doesn't matter how old you are, that holds value.

Acdg 2 an industry source, #Orioles talked w #Mets some about Dickey but no fit there. Os wont give up Bundy & dont have top OF/C prospects

So there you go. Texas,Baltimore and Toronto were the 3 teams mets eyeing yesterday. Now only Toronto left, barring a mystery team

We got all the leverage right now. We better not deal any of the prohibited 4 that I mentioned.

If we're including D'Arnaud, I think I'd rather have Niese than Dickey.

His age shouldn't be ignored like many other posters have suggested either.

For every knuckleballer that continued to thrive after 38 there are 2 or more that went on the decline.

Are you really dragging out the sample size argument with a knuckleballer that won a Cy Young at 37?

Same, look at the return Wil Myers netted from Tampa. We could get a younger, just as good pitcher if D'arnaud was traded. Just cant see AA trading D'arnaud for Dickey

I'll be pretty pissed if we trade D'Arnaud. JPA and Gose, I'm fine with.

I concur, you do not trade a top 10 hitting prospect who plays a premium position, and is cost controlled for 6 years. As much as I like Dickey, he is not worth D'Arnaud, I am however perfectly comfortable with trading Gose and Arencibia.

if we are trading TDA, i rather trade for doc then convert him to a knuckleballer

Shields isn't just as good as Dickey though... despite his age he's been a legitimate ace 3 years in a row now and has a Cy Young to his name.

Am told #BlueJays will not give up Travis d'Arnaud in any trade with #Mets for R.A. Dickey.

He is a baseball writer for USA today.
