I heard them saying on the radio that the Jays are up to the same level of salary now as last year?

how could that be with Chapman (12,5M), Ryu (20M), Belt (9.3M), Merrified (8.8M) all leaving, and it didnt feel like the 3 signings were for all that much?

Is it all the raises to the arb players?
Arb raises plus something like $28 million for Turner, Rodriguez and IKF.

That’s a good trade by both teams, doubt Burnes extends though unless they back the Brinks truck into his driveway.

Thought DL is overrated but now that he’s with Milwaukee he’ll probably be their new Hader.

I just stumbled on the news that Jimy Williams passed on the 26th of January at the age of 80

I'd rather Bichette get a extra 50ish plate appearances over the year and be on base for the 3-5 guys
How about this lineup?

1. Springer
2. Turner
3. Bichette
4. Vlad Jr.
5. Schneider
6. Jansen
7. Varsho
8. Martinez
9. Kiermaier

Kirk, IKF, Biggio, Horwitz

Turner has a little bit of a higher career OBP % and we can actually have some runners on for Bo and Vladdy.

The big question mark is Davis Schneider. I really don't want to be giving more playing time to Biggio over Babe but I'm already prepared for it.

I don't like to think I am a negative nancy but I really do feel like we might be the 4th best team in this division at this point lol
For me I have the O's and Yankees 1-2. The Jays and Rays fighting for 3-4 and the Red Sox 5th.

1. Orioles - 95
2. Yankees - 93
3. Jays - 88
4. Rays - 87
5. Sox - 84

Last year most of us thought they were a 88-92 win team, what do you think the range is this year? It’s early and we have to wait and see what they look like in the spring, but right now 90 seems like the ceiling.

To win more than 90, Flop must be a lot better than he’s been, Manoah will have to be competitive, and there are no significant drop off from anyone.

That seems about right, of course you can’t predict what TB will do.

I think the Orioles have done enough to separate themselves, and the Red Sox are a clear 5th, but I would put the other three teams bunched up in the middle. I don't think Soto and Stroman move the Yankees to 5 games ahead of the Jays.

I could realistically see us anywhere in the 80-90 range depending on luck and health. I don’t see an elite division winner though.

The Orioles have turned the corner when they had a horrible owner. Now that they will have new ownership who will seemingly have a vested interest in the team -- just adds an extra layer of difficulty in the division. You have two big spenders, a team that someone develops premier talent while on a shoestring budget, and now a young team who will become a serious player. Top to bottom it's a premier division.

Wasn't there rumours recently too that Angelos was thinking of relocating the team out of Baltimore? Cannot be understated just how much bad ownership can sewer a franchise.

But there is also a lot of room for an uptick in wins and production as well. Vladdy has a ton of room to improve, and if he has an MVP type season watch out. Springer if he can just have a bit of an improvement (at his age, who knows?) or at least plateau, that would be nice. Varsho can most definitely improve. Again, there is room here to be more than what you’re describing.

Yeah, they should definitely remain an elite run-prevention team, and it's easy to see the upside in the offense despite last year's struggles. Some RISP regression and a bit of a bounceback from Vlad/Kirk/Varsho isn't an unreasonable thing to expect at all.

If they add another good bat, I'll have a lot of confidence in the team.

Ah, yes, I forgot about Kirk. It’s not unreasonable at all to expect an uptick in their production. I understand that things can go wrong as well, but I’d rather just think positive. Let’s get in a positive frame of mind.

I’m not trying to shit on the team and obviously am hoping for the best I just know it is pretty rare that everything falls into place. Our division also plays a part in this as well. If we are in the Central then give us the division banner today lol this team needs to perform better inside the east this summer and I think it’s only getting harder.

Manoah is a big wild card. With Manoah back to his previous form our rotation is extremely formidable with him, Gausman, Berrios and Bassitt and Kikuchi.

Still need another pitcher though.

Beyond those five, they have Yariel Rodriguez, Ricky Tiedemann, and Bowden Francis. That's decent rotation depth.

I don't think expecting a bunch of guys in their mid-20s to perform approximately to expectations is an "everything falls into place" situation.

Another wildcard is if Jansen can finally stay healthy and play 120+ games. When he is on the field he produces as a elite catcher but if he does have a big year he might price himself out of Toronto and with Moreno gone I'd want Jansen to be our main catcher for the next 5ish years
