But I’m using facts?

No regular or prominent bench player had a lower wRC+ than Whit in the 2nd half. Not Belt, not Varsho, not Kirk, not Chapman, not Espinal. Zilch, nada, nobody.

But he hits singles :(

Last in wRC+, last in OPS, last in OBP, 3rd last in ISO, run the numbers buddy, he was BAD and offers no upside over our current rostered players
You can’t do that. you Can’t bring logic into a conversation. Shaner said facts and thats all there is to the conversation.

Jays have apparently signed Daniel Vogelbach.

I guess he adds power from the left side off the bench. Can’t imagine he got much term or AAV.

Well, I guess with Vlad and Manoah losing all that weight, we've created just enough room on the team plane. It'll be a close call though.

I’d set the over/under on how many times Shanner called him a POS last season at 12.5 and I recommend people hammer the over
Lmao this is likely true

I posted the facts. Go back and look. He was certainly one of the most productive hitters. Did he have a shit second half? Ya the stats say he did, so I’ll agree with that.

I wonder if signing Vogelbach means Horwitz has a greater chance of locking up a roster spot, or if he’s on the way out.

Probably nothing more than a ST showcase and him electing free agency for a better opportunity.

Without injuries or a trade of an IF, I’m not sure either make the roster.

If we carry 13 pitchers it leaves 13 spots for C/IF/OF.

C = Kirk & Jansen

IF = Vlad, Bo, Turner, Biggio, Babe Schneider, IKF, Espinal

OF = KK, Varsho, Springer

That leaves one more spot. As it stands now, that’s probably Horwitz spot, but seems they’d want another OF. There’s also Orelvis, Barger, Lukes, Escobar, and others fighting for that spot. I think it’s just as likely they bring in an OF from outside the org to take that spot.

Could be more moves to come, with the glut of utility IF’s on the roster.

Remember, he played a game with the Jays back in 2020. I forgot who they traded to acquire him, though. Then the Jays DFAed him, or something I don't remember.

I really think they need to move Espinal and give his roster spot to Clement.

13 Jays had at least 100 PA last year. Take a wild guess at home many of them had a lower wRC+ than Merrifield.

Merrifield had 2 good months last year. He was good in March/April and amazing in July and average to dog-ass the whole rest of the season.

wRC+ by month:

Mar/Apr: 121
May: 86
Jun: 99
Jul: 171
Aug: 56
Sep/Oct: 25 (!)

Or, if you're a basic bitch who likes average:

Mar/Apr: .320
May: .267
Jun: .280
Jul: .356
Aug: .232
Sep/Oct: .181

Factor in that he was, at best, mediocre with the glove and there really wasn't a reason for him to be here when they have like 4 or 5 guys that can offer positional versatility with a better bat or a better glove.

Not a fan. I’d rather have Chapman anchoring 3rd for us for the next few years. Warts at the plate and all. It’s not like IKF, Biggio, or Espinal are better bats. It would be a monster, but an ugly one at 3rd. If Rogers doesn’t want to fork over any more money, just let us know that they are not serious about winning the WS so that you or I don’t have to waste our time and money watching this team this season.
Even if they brought back Chapman I still don’t think they’re serious about winning a WS.

Merrifield was an auto out the 2nd half of the season.
Pretty much the entire lineup was an auto out the 2nd half of the season. Especially that 2 week span in August when they got shutout like 8 or 9 times.

So basically a very impressive 4 months followed by 2 putrid months. On this team he was productive. Gotta remember the bats were shit

They should let him and a few others walk, not re-signing them and sealing their fate.

The jays signed Vogelbach to supplement cashflow of hot dog vendors in Toronto that still have not financially recovered from Kessel's departure.

Losing Whit is meaningless. He wasn't that good and other players can easily replace him. I'd easily rather go with Davis than Whit. IKF is also better than him
I’m cool with Davis but IKF wasn’t even close to being as good as wit. Wit was better in every single faucet off offence. Maybe defensively. Not even remotely close offensively

IKF can play SS and 3B whereas Whit can't. Whit did have a slightly better year offensively than IKF. However, he is aging and likely has another decline in his bat. Steamer has an 89 wRC for IKF and Whit 83.

Let’s hope that’s the case. This team can ill afford to give up anything offensively given how trash they were last year.
