Eh... I don't read too much into that. Could mean if we sign one of the last few bigger names that we move out Espinal, Biggio, etc.. which would be totally fine as you have Schneider and younger guys pushing who cost less.

This is how I take it. They just had to DFA and deal Otto Lopez to accommodate previous moves. So we're at the point where any move they make will require taking someone off the 25 man or 40-man rosters.

Bowden says we're still trying to sign Chapman.

It kind of makes sense because some sort of hydra monster of Schneider, Turner, Kiner-Falefa, Barger, whoever is a less than idea option.

But on the other hand Bowden is a hack who sucked as an actual GM and sucks more as a fantasy world hypothetical GM who says dumb stuff on The Athletic to fulfill his weekly article quota.

9. Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are still trying to re-sign third baseman Matt Chapman. In the meantime, they’ve landed DH Justin Turner to help the middle of their lineup, brought back Gold Glove center fielder Kevin Kiermaier and added the versatile Isiah Kiner-Falefa to provide positional flexibility off the bench. In terms of pitchers, they’ve added only Cuban reliever Yariel Rodriguez, whom they signed to a four-year, $32 million contract. The Blue Jays still have one of the best rotations in the AL East (Kevin Gausman, José Berríos, Chris Bassitt, Yusei Kikuchi, Alek Manoah) and a strong bullpen, highlighted by closer Jordan Romero and set-up reliever Erik Swanson. How will Manoah fare after a nightmare season? Their position player core is still led by shortstop Bo Bichette and first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but they haven’t been able to sign either of them long term; both are eligible for free agency after the 2025 season, so if the Blue Jays aren’t in the pennant race at the trade deadline, could one or both of them be moved? I don’t see the Blue Jays in that position though. They need to improve the bottom half of their lineup but are still a serious playoff contender.

Not sure how I feel about Chapman. I like him as a person, a leader, and a defender but he is very inconsistent with the bat. Has too many holes in his swing, tough to rely on him as one of your middle of the order bats.

How bad must Orelvis be defensively at 3rd? He played mostly SS and 3B coming through the system. By all reports he was marginal at SS but should be able to handle 3rd. He gets 1 level short of the major league team and is the teams best hitting prospect as the high profile 3B we have goes to FA and we have a gaping hole there and as this is happening they move him to 2B where we have a few guys already. The very obvious thing to do is try to see if he can fill that hole at 3rd. The front office isn't dumb. They might be very risk averse but they're not dumb. Their internal evaluations of him at 3rd must be so bad.
