I'm more than fine keeping him if the value isn't there. Especially because it's your first trade, a doozy, and you're setting a precedent for everything going forward. If the deals are crap, he should just say, "I thought we could find a deal that would please both teams and the player in the directions we are respectively taking, but it turns out we couldn't" and leave it at that.
On to Plan B if the offers are crap.

Are we confident that there is pure animosity between the coach and player here? Or is this speculation on our part?

Craig mentioned the marriage is 'broken' before the season was even over. It's definitely there.

I wonder if we sat out the megathread if Canucks fans would eventually spiral all the way down to "actually I'm not sure if you could get more than Eriksson and a 3rd for that 50 MILLION DOLLAR contract"

I'm all for it. And then we can giggle and snicker about their cap problems while they complain their D cost them the season and bitch about all their bad contracts that Armstrong wouldn't eat.

I can’t believe the league’s GMs are so completely deadlocked. Everything seems completely jammed up.
I think part of it on the big moves is if you tell the other guy there's no way to possibly take his cap and salary in a deal, you'll be getting walked backwards as soon as you clear cap and salary. You clear Darcy and Goose for picks while you're trying to trade OEL, those teams are going to say, "you've got $10M in extra cap now. Let's revisit taking bad money back"

It's the goalie bullshit. Signing guys, buying them out, man-in-the-middle flips. Tons of it out there.

If we move Keumper then with Grabner we will have cut our budget by roughly 10%. I think my math is close.

I’d like to keep OEL if we can fire the f***in balls out of Tocc

Tocchet is the reason they are in this jam with OEL to begin with. I think he's gone by the end of the month.

Not like he's going to 'want' to stay if OEL and Kuemper go for futures

There's definitely something weird going on in Boston with Rask and it's been going on for a few seasons now.

Particularly frustrated with Boston and Rask. They absolutely don’t need to do anything there. Very unnecessary and annoying.

They can't really count on him moving forward. They're shook. Same thing is going to lower his trade value. He loses his protection on the 9th and may retire if he goes somewhere he doesn't like.

Vegas is in a real pickle with Fleury. They better figure out something quick. I'd love for the Coyotes to be the man in the middle on that one. Somehow get Andersen+ from Toronto for Kuemper, get a 1st for disposing of Fleury, get another one for retaining him 50%. After trading Raanta you're at the same amount of cash.

I think Schmaltz goes to Buffalo tomorrow. Maybe Raanta as well.

Teams may just say f*** it and dump an unheard amount of solid RFAs on the market.

I thought of something the other day when my wife asked me why we sucked so bad for so long:

Gretzky was awful.

Tippet was good, but a dinosaur that coaches a dinosaur type of game. Defense first, offense 2nd.

Tocchet is a “new age” coach because he was an assistant coach to some of the best players in the league, just pure skill. That said, he is a coach who was a former player and played a certain way: tough, hard-nosed hockey that leads to scoring opportunities.

He doesn’t like OEL for being quiet and probably felt pressured to name him captain. The league is not the same anymore and he isn’t coaching Malkin and Crosby. The dudes agenda is outdated without superstars.

To this day, I remember Todd Nelson being shut out by the Barroway’s. I think he would have been amazing.

Re: Tocchet and OEL

It’s busted. Tocchet wants OEL to be a Swedish version of Shane Doan in his prime. OEL’s character isn’t made that way.

Can’t blame OEL either. Chayka had him believing he was getting the C after Doan got turfed and then Tocchet comes in and says hold the phone. Toss in all the other side show stuff in and you’ve a mess.

They are already there. I've been calling it Rathbone + 3rd for OEL for 10 hours now.

Just spam every idiot "I'd only give them a third and Rathbone if they take Eriksson" or "We have all the leverage!" with "We should take that and run"
