Dvo, Stepan, Sutter, Hayton sounds fine for me. I wouldn't rush to trade Stepan out until we have more centerdepth or the deadline. That would give Hayton plenty of opportunity to grab a top 6 spot if he is ready, and insulates him if he's not.

If buying out Sutter and Eriksson is so cheap, Vancouver should just do it. Why are we throwing money away if we're not going to get compensated. If throwing money away was palatable right now, teams would be lining up for Eriksson and a first or Virtanen. All accounts are that they offered a first and Eriksson for air, and noone was remotely interested.

It’s cheap NEXT off-season. They need space THIS off-season.

And I’m talking about cash anyway. Sutter and Eriksson combined make 500k more than OEL this season. But they have a combined cap hit of more than 2 million more than OEL.

And what makes you think I’m saying we shouldn’t be compensated?

Toffoli would actually be pretty good with Keller or Schmaltz because he uses the inside of the ice.

Were those rumors that VAN was offering Virtanen for free to anyone who would take Eriksson reported by anyone credible or was that twitter junk?
I heard the first. I also heard Virtanen. I don't have a problem believing it. Noone wants to swallow that cap or salary.

Eriksson has a buy out proof contract.

Shame. Let's move out Schmaltz and Raanta, maybe Keumper and make a run at Toffoli. If we move both, pick up Markstrom lol
Trade Kuemper today, blow the OEL deadline Friday, fire Tocchet over it, have OEL so pleased that he recruits his friend Markstrom. Then move Raanta for 2021 picks. Get Tocchetless Kessel to waive his NTC for Florida, in a deal that brings back Yandle.

Effectively recouping the sanctioned picks by moving from Kuemper and Raanta to Markstrom and Hill. :)

So when Vancouver fans offer Eriksson, Virtanen, Juolevi and a 3rd, they’re actually just offering Juolevi straight up? Considering there were no takers for Eriksson/Virtanen, that should mitigate the 3rd.

There isn't any need to buy out Eriksson. He's still a very serviceable player.

That's all I've been saying. If you have Virtanen and Eriksson in there, it's guaranteed more cap than OEL, and it's essentially slightly value negative. If the rest of the package is Juolevi and a second, you're basically asking for OEL for a second and Juolevi. You can F right off with that style of offer. That's why it absolutely needs a first and Pod or Hoglander on top of that.

If it's Sutter on one year, who actually sort of fits the roster, then, sure he doesn't have that kind of negative value. Maybe you take Sutter and Juolevi as even assets or however you value it and you're left with Virtanen and a third for OEL. Which is still not good.

There's no otherplace to offload Eriksson. We're basically the only game in town that might take him for Virtanen, and it's IF we trade you our top pairing defenseman in a fair deal.

It depends on which you’re more worried about. I don’t think we’re going to be a cap team in either of the next two seasons.
Not in 2021-22. This year? We might be stuck. Noone is shuffling cap right now.

Benning should really do this. And I’m trying to be neutral about it. They have so much cap tied up in crappy players that aren’t worth it. If they can secure OEL and Markstrom long-term as a result of dumping cap on us, they should be more than willing to offer at least one of Podkolzin or Hoglander and one of Rathbone or Juolevi and either the first or 2nd. It’s crazy not to, honestly. These are all just magic beans. They have really problems right now in the NHL today they can address. f*** the prospect pool. Their best players are young as hell anyway.

My only concern with all this is the fact that the contract for OEL will be ugly on the last two years. #1 D man for the foreseeable future, no doubts, but if they try to move him next off-season, you're getting that much less in return.

And IF OEL becomes a problem, it's three plus years away. You get a top pair D AND punt the cap problem you painted yourself into. That's why I think Benning blinks. If not, we can figure out the Ollie situation at a later date, or hopefully resolve the coaching situation sooner.

If they are asking you to take more cap and salary this year than we're sending out, what did you really miss out on? Extra cap and salary? Gee, big loss. They'll still be trying to move Eriksson next year, I promise lol

The negative reaction to the Toffoli news might spurn Benning to do something. He can't have Markstrom walk too.
