Lines I'd like to see when healthy:

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-St. Louis
Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett
Carcillo

Hagelin and Nash were great together last year, and Richards and St. Louis need some size on their line. Another negative about the trade is that Stepan is now the only righty in the top 9.

Like this lineup a lot. Maybe Carcillo over Dorsett. And maybe another trade for a defenseman with a rocket shot and/or a tough top-nine forward. But, basically, this looks good. No John Mitchell...nice.

I understand people not loving it but knowing Sather I just don't think people realize there were only 2 options. We would trade Cally in a move where we would get the best player (making us add picks or prospects) like this one, or we resign Cally. Frankly, I think that 2nd option is at least equally if not more binding to our future. At least in this scenario we have the reigning Art Ross winner.

Lundqvist will also be getting old. So it's ok. We do kind of have to force the issue while he is playing at a near elite level.

Anyway Hags, Staal, Moore, McD, Stepan, kreider, Fasth, Lindberg, Miller. There is PLENTY of talented youth sitting right there for the next 5-8 years.

Hell we still have Nash and who's to say MSl doesn't go another 3 or 4? You guys aren't looking at the facts. Not having 1st round picks does suck but it won't magically erase those young guys from the franchise

The Rangers prospects aren't that good.

Look around the league. Ours arent that good.

Any news on Boyle? NY Post was saying some teams were interested. Anyone think he gets moved today?

I think if he's not willing to budge on his $$$ amount, then he's Buffalo bound for sure.
+ Side is he's close to family
- Side is the Sabres are ridiculous as a team, hence Lafontaine resigning.

Callahan lost this Russian Roulette with Sather, and now he'll pay the price of being a non competive team for the rest of his career.

Yeah his agent was beyond stupid in how he handled this. He had a chance to negotiate with teams, and once he saw the Lafontaine lead Sabres offer of 7/48 he started salivating.

Things change quickly in the NHL. The Rangers are better off in terms of what they are getting back in terms of production and cap hit.

@jaygeemsg: Talked w/ Staal, McDonagh, Boyle on Callahan-for-St Louis trade. Interviews air tonight 6:30 on MSG NYR Gamenite. Some Quotes upcoming here.

Ok. What did Jagr do for the franchise exactly?

I mean Jagr is old and still playing great. MSL will resign for a few more yrs after this contract is up and put up pts.

This could end up Cally , 1st for MSL if Cally resigns and the Rangers don't get to the East finals. BTW if they get to the East finals it means this trade worked out great and MSL is tearing it up. He's the 5th leading scoring in the league

Given the Rangers 1st round selections over the past 20 years, its maybe a bit of an overreaction. Get more 2nd and 3rd rounders back to compensate. The Rangers have been good there. Its not like they are giving up top 10 picks.

But im with a lot of us who has trouble giving those firsts up. Its not easy to stomach.

I don't mind the Callahan for MSL swap the picks make this trade a non starter for me.

I don't like the giving away of picks. It doesn't hurt right away but when other teams have players coming into their primes the Rangers will either be too old or too young or both.

For instance it happened to the football Jets, their GM gave away tons of picks and the team fell off a cliff talent wise and in Football its much easier to restock the roster with talent.

I think this deal is the lesser of two evils for me.

I'd be far more upset then signing Cally to anything over 4 years.

So in that regard it opens up room 2 years out, albiet without some top end youth from the first(s) we gave up.

Amazing how many people like this deal. It's like people disregard MSL's age & draft picks . Nilan just said on TSN 690 that he thinks Sather is senile. I totally agree. Do you really think MSL makes us compete with Boston Pittsburgh & all the western powerhouses ?

Something tells me that Sather did not get to 6x6

I have a feeling that Sather wasn't budging off a number under 6 million.

nothing to support it, just think we are not getting the complete set of facts regarding the contract talks.

But, they couldve kept Cally and let him go for nada. Then what? My head is spinning. Im glad i dont get paid to do this. Sather wont be held accountable anyway so we are *****ing for nothing.

These are late first round picks unless we become new york knicks bad

Sather was put in a position where he either let Cally go for nada, or for some mediocre player or a 2nd-3rd pick since he obviously wasn't going to meet Cally's demands (and rightfully so). Instead, he decided to go for it some way and tossed in two high picks for MSL. Really don't understand the backlash here. Sure, the picks were a buzz kill but we wouldn't have gotten anything even remotely close to MSL if he hadn't. His options were limited and this was an acceptable way of dealing with it if you ask me.
