If he keeps up the level of play from last season the cap hit will slot right in with fair value as the cap rises in those UFA years we payed for.

You can do worse than “overpaying” a 25 year old top pairing dman.

7x8 is fair value, considering it's buying out 6 UFA years. He wasn't making less than $8M on the open market, so this is a good deal by Gorton.

Couple of players will have to be moved or bought out, but they have options and it should not be too painfull. Rangers have a lot of cap space coming within the next two years via expiring contracts, so there's no immediate need to worry about signing our young players. Second contracts for Kakko & co should not cause any cap trouble unless several of them become stars.

There was a time crunch. If Trouba got to arbitration, he goes UFA in a year if he wanted. Not worth the risk over 500k per. But for the record, I think the Trouba and Panarin acquisitions were a year premature. I know those guys wouldn't have been available but someone else would have been a year from now.

I couldn't help and went there. Its a disgrace. The anti rangers bias is in full force. There are a few posters in there that cannot seriously look at themselves in the mirror after some of those comments. Im tired of every good player instantly being considered overrated and overpaid when they come here. Panarin is a 2nd liner and Trouba is barely a 3rd Dman. People saying they rather have Pionk. GTFO. To top it off you have people that know nothing about our prospects and cap situation commenting. Its very annoying.
