I'm sure someone will inevatbly comment that they don't like either scenario where Strome is still 2c.

But I would take option 2 instantly.

I'm on the fence with Boyle. Great dude and a useful player, but seems like a signing for the sake of a signing. We have enough warm bodies for the 4th line as it is.
Yeah, this is me too. Not gonna complain if it (or something similar) happens, but I’d rather roll with what they have, bank space, wait for Chytil/Kravtsov to come back up, and retain the ability to take on cap in a subsequent deal.

But as I say, not really a big deal either way.

Yeah, I mean if we're just trying to stick a guy on the 4th line then just cast the net at the Pack and see who turns up. I'd rather not give the coaches another vet to lean on over Andersson who, despite my criticisms, has been playing well thus far.

Third line was probably the best line after the top line for good stretches in the first game. Because a third line didn't show up on the scoreboard doesn't mean they didn't exist.

Vlad has been a classic underachiever for almost his entire time with the Rangers. That third line is strong because Fast plays fantastic defense and covers for others. Vlad was not the reason that line played well. In addition if Vlad was pegged as a defensive star when the Rangers got him then I'd agree that he is worth keeping for defensive responsibility but that's just not the case.

You are on fire.
I just think that way too much is being made of this. Over a guy that most fans couldn't wait to dump this offseason. Am I over the moon about the return? Of course not. Am I crestfallen? No.

This move:
- Gives the Rangers flexibility: both on the roster and with the cap
- Allows them to give more ice time to Lemieux and maybe some to McKegg, who has certainly earned that opportunity
- In theory allow the Rangers to ice a team that should be harder to play against

Namestnikov is an example of a guy who's resume is more impressive than the candidate. He was far from noticeable in the first two games, when he really had no room to be. The Rangers can now add guys to the lineup who fit the team's identity and what the coach wants. While gaining cap space.

Nothing more.

Disappointed they needed to retain, as there goes 1/3 slots (less of a worry now since Spooner is moved to buyout from retained)

Other than Kreider, and maybe Strome, I don't see anyone we would trade that we would want to retain on. The retention would be up at the end of the year for all of them.

If Staal or Smith get traded with retention, it will be next summer, after the others have expired. We're probably stuck with both though until 2021.

I know it's probably not the popular opinion right now but Quinn views McKegg as a more effective bottom 6 guy than Namestnikov. From what I saw of Mckegg in the playoffs and preseason I agree with him.
I'm probably biased tho cause I was and am in the "Namestnikov was carried by Kucherov" camp.

Quinn's not alone. McKegg may not have the offensive production that Namestnikov might, be he can still add value. At about $3M less.

names or boyle or whoever. im actually ok with what we have on roster now. we always had atleast 1 too many forwards. i like mckegg on line 4. love peppe on line 3 and think smith looks good grinding away on the 4th line as well.

its only 2 games and so im not ready to totally end the strome experiment just yet. after 10 games or so, well know what we have in strome.

i continue to believe hes good enough to center that 2nd line but would be more suited for a 3rd line role.

pass on boyle.

I've been panned for saying that Gorton doesn't care about having depth.

He we are again.

Kravtsov is a kid who traveled thousands of miles thinking if he played well he'd earn a spot. He played well enough to do so and now is doing what a kid far from home might do when disappointed. Management needs to not F this up.

It's Kravtsov who needs to not F this up.

Is Vegas cap strapped? Can we get Statsny for Strome +?

Stastny has 2 years left at 6.5 mil and he turns 34 in a couple months. He's still a good player, but he's not a guy we should be using that much cap space on, nor the assets it would take to acquire him (assuming Vegas has any interest in moving him, which I doubt).
