I wonder if the Rangers would sign Brian Boyle. Maybe a late signing? Provides vet leadership, size, grit and faceoffs. Maybe Names did request a trade.
The way the agent was the 1st to go public with it and how excited he was, I’d say names had privately requested a trade.

This was simple. Ottawa got alittle rattled by How amateur league they are and knew names was available for next to nothing and said OK to 20% rentention to get a free quality middle 6er and Gorts took the deal and moves on.

That’s wiggle room. He can sign Brian Boyle to a 2mil deal and still have opened up 1.25 million in the Names deal

Sign Boyle for a fourth line center? Don't we already have too many 3/4 centers and not enough 2C? I love BB when he was here but he is on the wrong side of 30. The fact that no one picked him up over the summer says a lot.

If we sign Boyle now, in which there was mentioned interest in doing a while back, and he returns a 3rd at the TDL, that is good asset management IMO. Cap space, a 3rd, a 4th, good part of the year with Boyles services and a flier on Ebert who is RFA. For Namestnikov? Badabing

Names wasn’t playing higher up the lineup for us. Who is trading for a 3 year 4th liner making 4m per year? But for Ottawa he could definitely be a top 1/2 line player. All of a sudden some stupid GM gives up a 2nd for him at the deadline.

So if I get this right, we in principle traded Vancouver’s unprotected 1st in 21’ for a 4th in 21’ and an AHLer? Okkiiii ;)

Seriously though, they gotta start scouting pro players better. Who do we have there that don’t know hockey and why isn’t he fired yet?

I believe they've made changes in the pro scouting department since that trade.

Kravtsov did not play well enough to earn a NHL spot. I know opinions are subjective but he's been largely ineffective during preseason. No issue with him being sent down. If it hurts his feelings, we may have a different situation on our hands.

Why is disappointment called "hurt feelings"? So it sounds weak and pathetic? He's 19 and he should be disappointed. I'm not saying acting out on disappointed is ideal. It's certainly more likely from a kid who's brand new to NA and possibly feeling out of place in a new continent.

I think people forget athletes who are 19 are still children on many levels. It's not clear why he was a scratch but I put the burden on the adults running this team to make sure this kid is doing well in his transition to NA. Maybe it's just a little early for tough love on this one.

I could see a Brian Boyle move though. Nobody took #22.

I don't see it happening, but I hope I'm wrong. I don't see Lias, Chytil, and Howden all putting up productive seasons at center, and I think Strome might be best suited for the wing. I wouldn't expect him to be more than he's been, but he does add depth.

Most of us realistically probably thought he'd land a 3rd at most. A 4th from the Sens who will likely be awful through at least 2021 is not far off the best case scenario which would have been a 3rd at the deadline from a contender. Making this deal guarantees he's gone and saves cap. Is the roster as good today? I don't think you can really argue if it's better or worse since the guy made almost no impact and there are a few young guys in the AHL who probably aren't too far away from moving up the ladder. I wouldn't say that I was thrilled by this trade, but it makes perfect logical sense. Namestnikov was just never a fit here, and wasn't likely to become one.

Why? He was getting fourth line minutes here. He'll probably be spoon fed top 6 minutes in Ottawa. He's in a contract year, so the guy needs points to make some money in the future.

Whilst all of this is true, the feeling of being dealt to the Senators must be the hockey equivalent of losing a loved one.
