I'll bet the timing of this trade was deliberate, because of ADA.this trade is all about cap space...cleared space to give us the flexibility to run the team that we didn't have before...they tried to move him all summer teams probably wanted us to retain 50%. when ottawa only asked for 750k to be retained we jumped at it is my guess...the return wasn't important.
I doubt anyone gets called up, we play 1 game in the next 10 days...and mckegg needs to get a game. then they can figure it out...
ADA is probably pissed this trade didn't happen a week ago...
Anything youve heard @bobbop or just speculation. Ive thought Boyle made sense all along for the role of 4th line / PK man who can play wing and center. Big veteran presence for a very young team. Knows the organization. Would probably come cheap.I could see a Brian Boyle move though. Nobody took #22.
I'm neither here nor there on Namestnikov as a player but I do think it's symptomatic of Grotans always thinking he's getting through a season with 12 guys.
This team needed to "free up a roster spot" like Hank needs to get handsome.
This particular player is nbd but this has been a tendency of Gorton's for years.Cap flexibility for the deadline is nothing to scoff at. Namestnikov is a replacement level player, its really nbd
I’m genuinely not clear: what would you prefer he do differently—carry 2 more guys in addition to Haley to wear suits every game? On a rebuilding team? Why?This particular player is nbd but this has been a tendency of Gorton's for years.
Carry NHL-caliber players and not Haley.I’m genuinely not clear: what would you prefer he do differently—carry 2 more guys in addition to Haley to wear suits every game? On a rebuilding team? Why?
Cap flexibility for what exactly...? His deal is expiring
I had heard a while ago that some teams had told Boyle to sit tight until they cleared cap room. I thought at the time, the Rangers made a lot of sense. Also if season goes in the wrong direction you can turn Boyle into another draft pick or two at the deadline

We should be shortening the bench like the rest of the NHL.Something I think we are going to see is shortening the bench to 3 lines later in games and when the team is trailing. Now, we shouldn't gameplan to go that way, cause you never know with injuries, but I'd argue we're down to 11 guys who are going to get ice time up front later in games.
It'll be easier to sit McKegg and Smith. That last forward could vary this season, but at some point it should be Strome.
Still think we're used to the AV style where these guys are all balanced. Quinn could be going a little more top heavy. In game injuries ruin that plan, but if they need a top 9 guy, they could call up Kravtsov or Chytil.
And the Rangers now have $4.2 MM in available cap room
Rick Nash coming out of retirement maybe?
Too bad we can't roll it over into next season.
