I get all that you're saying but all of this is based Dolan's whims. We know we was absolutely furious about what happened to Panarin and Buchnevich. That was the straw on the camel's back when Gorton didn't agree with his owner. I don't see Dolan stopping short of bringing back a player he's already paying for the final 2 games to make a statement. I don't think Jim Dolan gives a shit about PR right now. In fact, in his mind, Tony being back is a win for toughness and some balls.

The guy hasn't played hockey in three months. Forget Dolan, I can't see Drury or anyone left backing that plan.

And if it were to happen, we should take that as a very troubling sign.

This is the best timeline. Honestly Sathers is the hero we all need right now. He's not completely off the rails and Drury will make the calls for deals around the league. Better than Messier. This is a legitimate team, Slats/Drury is.

I completely agree and it'll be nice to have Slats help Drury play hard ass on contract negotiations.

I’m listening to the Athletic headline podcast with Carp and Scott Burnside that just got released and Carp is saying he’s heard Dolan had some dissatisfaction with JD replacing Sather at the time and he also wasn’t thrilled with JD during his time as president

For all we know Quinn’s contract may have a stipulation about completing 3 years and firing him now would be a really distasteful thing to do.

and we also know that Quinn very much voiced his displeasure with the league and supports his players so he didn’t act out of line of ownership as it appears the other two did. So he’ll finish the year do his exit interview and be gone shortly after

the Rangers have been a shit show since jd got there. One public embarrassment after another.

W. T. actual. F?

Late to the party.

Dolan gonna Dolan. We were headed in the right direction. Rebuilds take time. Gorts and JD seemed to do what previous NYR GMs never do and that is target specific players, instead of throw assets at Johnny-come-lately, whats available throw aways.

We made some very daft trades to aquire the the most high end prospects this team has seen since Smith and Rockstrom found Wright, Amonte, Zubov, Nordstrom, etc...

Very disappointed in this decision.

Gorts and JD had their faults, but having walked away from the Knicks looooooong ago, I have no faith in Dolan not going the yearly turn over and dump kids route like the Orange n Blue do.

So, having read the thread a bit.

If Dolan issued the statement and JD and Gorts truly backpeddled away, then dont let the door hit ya on the way out fellas.

I just threw up in my mouth a little, but I can't hate Dolan if this is the proper take.

Just exaggerating on my part. I'm just expecting an over reaction to one game. We would have been fine otherwise. Lots of time before the organization could address the toughness issue. Playoffs, expansion, then draft and free agency. Tempers would have cooled. But the ship has turned too soon.

I would like to hear what really happened. I would have kept JD. I'm not sure about Gorton but this definitely should have waited till our offseason. Something bad happened. Why now?

Also why are people so surprised that Slats is "back"?

He never left lol. He's been a senior advisor since he stepped down from the president role a few years ago. He's literally a placeholder until Drury hires an AGM
I'm just happy theres an adult who has run a hockey team before in the room. I was dreading what Drury and and unhinged Dolan and maybe Messier were about to do to this roster.

f*** that statement though. I think we're all sick of missing the playoffs and want to compete, but arent most rangers fans overall happy with the progression of the youth and the rebuild?

Like him as GM or not one good thing about the Sather era was that Dolan did not meddle. He gave Sather full autonomy. Sather must’ve been amazing dealing with th psycho that Dolan is to have that level of respect and authority.

I don’t even know who else we could bring in that he would respect that much and have the same arrangement with.

How about Phil Jackson?

Whoever hires JD/Gorton won't be doing any deals with us anytime soon  Maybe Buffalo hires Gorton.

I like JD and Gorton, especially how Gorton wasn’t scared like most GMs of pulling the trigger.

But facts are just, so many unacceptable things have taken place because of incompetence and sloppyness.

Honestly, if nothing happens I was really scared of what the future would hold. These guys oversaw Quinn’s work up close and did nothing about it.

Tragic. This organization is a complete joke. Been a fan for my entire life and this is the worst I’ve ever felt
It just feels strange. Knicks in playoffs. Rangers have a front office massacre with a few days left in the season.

If they didn’t support his statement as a last straw the correct thing to do is let them go as soon as possible. And that’s what happened
Hard disagree. The absolutely worst look is to do anything that can reasonably be interpreted as giving Wilson being an absolute moron even more value and importance. Right or wrong this will very easily and regularly be spun as Wilson getting the rangers to throw off their entire long term team building plan, and that is insanely, embarrassingly, idiotic
