He and Miller have been great together. A partner that you know works with a guy is always worth it.
$5m is around what a 4/5 gets. That's pretty high for a 3rd pair guy no?
Hilarious coming from you with your valuations lmaoThat’s f***ing awful.
The contract is bad the trade was bad everything about this transaction is bad . I think kakko got another point today hes been a point game a player for seattle so far. Seattle might have to pay some bucks for this young star .I love all the armchair GMs commenting like it’s some horrible deal when they have barely watched him play in NY, seen how well he has fit in, steadied KAM, etc. Also, $4.1m is nothing with the cap set to explode. It’s a solid deal for a solid #4.
It's not even 5% of next year's projected cap. Frankly, i just don't see the big deal either way.My word, Drury is a toolbox.
He’s not the 4/5D many selling him as here. He’s a clear cut bottom pairing guy with 5 years and 4.1m cap hit now.
Rangers fans are happy with this deal?
^this is exactly what I thought of. A guy who wasn't excelling on a bad team who comes and bring physicality and has a good run gets an extension he probably should not. Hopefully it does not end up like that but still do not love the idea of potentially blocking Schneider (if this leads to his trade it better be for a guy like Petterson and not Miller).Kinda reminds me of that time when the Rangers extended Brendan Smith to similar money. He was also 28.
^I believe what happened after they extended Brendan Smith led to them passing on extending Mikkola, for fear the same thing would happenedI literally don't think anyone gives a shit about his points. The sample size is fair. But he's been a solid second pairing guy for us and has played a HUGE part in the D stabilizing. I know the bar is low but Miller with Trouba was one of worst pairings in hockey. Miller with Borgen has been solid. Sometimes you need to make decisions based on small sample size. If Drury waited till the end of the season people would still say the sample size is small. You don't always have the luxury of several seasons with a team before having to make an extension decision. Also everyone talking about 3rd pairing D-man or whatever but the Rangers had Mikkola (forget the spelling) and let him go and then he was a solid defenseman on a team that won the cup. Sometimes sold but unspectacular is not a bad thing.
I also don't understand why sample size is used against Borgen but now Kakko is a point per game player even though he's never been anything close to that.

Justifying the crappy trade
yes.
he's a pretty solid 3rd pairing rhd with physicality. can step in on your 2nd pair a bit.
think Jalen Chatfield but bigger and more physical.
Chatfield makes what 3m, he's probably overpaid about 500k, in the NHL that's slightly.
That's the beauty of it . I love chris drury. Bruins fan.How does this guy get a NMC?

I'm not saying it was necessarily a huge anchor even though:We have people with Brendan Smith PTSD like it was some huge team anchor. It really wasn't THAT big of a deal, IMHO.
I'm not saying it was necessarily a huge anchor even though:
1) it was $4.2 million AAV which would be comparable to a $5 million today (not great for a guy who TOI was as much as Rempe at times)
2) He also was put on waivers and unclaimed (kinda defines anchor contract if no one will take him for free)
3) the Rangers entered a rebuild so it didn't hurt as much
4) the Rangers were forced to buyout one of if not the greatest player they ever had in Lundqvist while being stuck with Smith @ $4.2
