Man I like this trade. Keane's a great prospect but Trouba, TDA, Fox, Lundkvist... whats his future role? You get a legit forward prospect without giving up your main roster chips. That's an A+. Guathier may not be as prolific so far but ironically from the same junior team I think we could be talking about a future upside of Anthony Mantha. You got a guy about ready to jump into the NHL, now go get yourself an extra first round pick this year

ive seen him play a few times in person here in syracuse

strong, big and fast. plays a very simple straight ahead game. strong shot. not overly creative and certainly wont dangle. effective down low and good along the boards.

looks a little like kakko when kakko has some mojo. strong to the net and good at keeping possession.

he plays a simple game and can score goals. for a big guy, hes legit fast and can beat defenders wide.
Exactly what we need more of in the bottom 6, sweet. How is he with deflections and screens?

how is he at running goalies? what is his RG/60???

Is Carolina so good that Gauthier couldn’t crack their lineup?

Kind of, it's more of a combination of them not having room and Gauthier not quite showing he was NHL ready.

It's not that uncommon for teams who have been building and are now pretty good to have some of those guys, yet some are more successful than others. Howden, Lindgren, Lemieux, Hajek I think all sort of fit or did fit into a similar category.

It's usually a mixed bag in my opinion, yet that kind of goes for everything else. I like the gamble here, he is a big guy who can skate, has shown some scoring at the AHL level. Not sure if it will work or not, yet there is some potential there.

I thought this was satire until I read your next string of posts

Just saying of the top 40 scorers in the league all had productive seasons under their belt and been established by their 23rd birthday.. of course other than Panarin but hes a special case who didnt even come into the NHL by then

Edit: blake wheeler is the lone exception here

Is anyone expecting Gauthier to be a top 40 scorer? Top 40 is elite production, not every player who’s not elite is a bust

No one is expecting Gauthier to be a top scorer in the league. Just like Keane isn't going to be a top defender in the league.

I think most will agree with you in the sense that if you haven't been successful at this point it is very rare you are going to be a top player in the league.

It is much less uncommon to have middle to bottom 6 forwards take longer to get where they need to be to make it in the NHL.

Either way before we got sidetracked my original point still stands, if he was 23 on next years opening night with 5 NHL games to his name he would be dangerously close to being at that age that "you are what you are" since players prime ages are consistently getting lower and lower. Doesn't matter now since he is with the Rangers now, hope he gets a good opportunity in the top 6 and can pot a few.

I'll feel a lot better about him having a strong finish at the NHL level as opposed to coming in cold next year. That's all.

It's just the reality of today's NHL. These guys are expected to come in within 2 years of their draft year and make an immediate impact, and the rise in huge money deals coming off ELC's clearly dictates that. Most guys are getting huge raises before they even enter the 3rd year of their conracts. It's crazy.

Is Brian Boyle a decent comparison or is that a lazy big man comparison?

Not sure posted already but it's been confirmed that he's joining the big club immediately. They play Carolina on Friday.

I wonder if they expect to make more moves by then or just figure they will just sit a forward

Twitter has so many mixed reactions about this trade.

Jess Rubenstein (Prospect park) hates it. Reminiscing the Graves trade to Colorado.
Corey Pronman likes it for the Rangers. Says Gauthier is NYR's #3 ranked prospect.

Kudos to whoever the poster here was that kept mentioning Gauthier In the Trade Rumor thread here. I remember him/her posting Gauthier being the prospect he/she was hoping for in a Kreider deal.

Ive seen posters labeling Gauthier as a big tough power forward here and on Twitter. Is he a true power forward? I guess we will soon see. He's big. He can skate. He's a physical specimen. Steve K mentioned he was really good along the boards. He's on pace for his best season at AHL level. Big goal scorers that can skate are hard to find. Big goal scorers that can skate and play a true physical brand of hockey are Hybrids. Not sure if Gauthier is truly a physical player in the small sample size ive seen. He drops the mitts. Not often, but he does. Not exactly a fighter, nor does he seem to do very well when he does shed them. Seems like the Canes have some depth at RW. Teravainen is almost PPG for the Canes. Justin Williams is a cult hero! Martin Necas a yr younger produced better PPG but scores less goals then Gautier. He's 3rd on that Canes depth chart. Brock McGinn rounded out the 4th line. He's got just shy of 300 games for the Canes now. I guess there was a logjam there even though Williams is a Dinosaur!

Im a Joey Keane fan from day 1. I was probably a little biased here as I was pulling for him. Keane always seemed to be described as a puck moving defenseman and get some credit for his creativity. Keane however is also a Physical player with a mean streak. For that reason i always thought he was going to make it. I wish him well and i was probably one of the few here that thought of Keane as a player who might be better then a B prospect.

Grading the deal, i think its pretty damn even! I hope Gauthier develops further and contributes at the NHL level.
