And am horrified that there is a scary trend of players we trade away finally turning it on as soon as they leave here.

Who have we traded away recently that turned it on when they left? Lately we have cut bait at the right time and gotten good years out of players.

Eh it goes both ways Dude. I don’t think it’s fair just to point out Saarela and what Keane is gonna turn out to be. I don’t hate the trade BUT let’s slow down before proclaiming him the next Kreider or even a better version lol. Let’s see if the kid can afapt week to the NHL first

eh wasnt my point at all.

all i was saying was hockey trades are the bread and butter of gorton. hes shown the ability to make trades and prosper. the guy has a track record thats very strong.

i like this deal more than us getting back a draft pick.

gorton shines with his hockey deals and this is just that.

To me, his size and skating alone makes him an NHLer. No doubt. How far up the lineup? That’s the million dollar question. If his hockey sense was just a little better, he’s a first liner and a very nice complementary winger to a guy like Zibanejad. But then again, if his hockey sense was a little better, we probably would not have gotten him for someone like Keane.

It depends on what report you read, but: New York Rangers: Making sense of the Joey Keane trade

"Gauthier is an explosive power forward who boasts a mouthwatering package of a high hockey IQ, elite vision and an impressive work rate."

The Staal trade and the McDonagh/Miller deals are looking more like blemishes on his record, but all his other deals seem to be solid to good.

JT Miller? Eric Staal, Keith Yandle.

It's also really telling 4 years in a row we had to congratulate former Rangers in the post hand shake line after killing us in a playoff series. Gaborik scored some huge goals for LA, Callahan and friends beat us on our home ice in Game 7 of the ECF, Hagelin and HBK ran all over us in Pittsburgh and Brassard scored the tying goal in Game 5 in Ottawa that changed the entire series.

That is so embarrassing and classic Rangers to happen ONCE, let alone 4 times in a row.

ive seen him play a few times in person here in syracuse

strong, big and fast. plays a very simple straight ahead game. strong shot. not overly creative and certainly wont dangle. effective down low and good along the boards.

looks a little like kakko when kakko has some mojo. strong to the net and good at keeping possession.

he plays a simple game and can score goals. for a big guy, hes legit fast and can beat defenders wide.

agreed. Callahan? Stepan? McD? Brassard? Vesey? Spooner? Raanta? Talbot? we sold high on all of them. JT Miller? we will see if this season is an annomoly for him, but it took two years *after* we traded him, and then another team to trade him, before he got good. Ryan Graves? he had a hot start, but hasn't kept it up.

The list of players who got better after they left is *maybe* 2-3 players deep over the last 5 years.

. Never said Gorton doesn’t make good trades. Although I don’t this he had been as tremendous as you think. I’m fine with the trade but it’s still a “wait and see” situation. I hope the kid does well but it’s a big jump between AHL and NHL.

JT Miller? Eric Staal, Keith Yandle.

.

...Staal signed with MIN as a UFA.... Yandle was traded for cap reasons, not because we couldn't wait for his talent to show. your only possible arguments are JT and Ryan Graves.

Blue line station kind of sucks. I read Pronman, Wheeler, and watch highlights. And as someone else mentioned, he has tunnel vision. Not always, but enough. I wouldn’t say he has poor hockey IQ, but I wouldn’t call it a strength. Think about it. A power forward with size, speed, a great shot, great hands, AND great hockey IQ? He would not be in the AHL at 22.

JT Miller who was traded again after not producing with very good talent in TB. Are you upset about getting Brassard for Gaborik? Callahan didn't have much to do with us losing to TB. Brassard can score that game 5 goal while I keep Mika.

Speaking of Brassard how has he done? Or Stepan?

You did not seriously mention Callahan and Brassard in this argument.

Tampa deal too soon to call,as well as Hajek and Howden,
it included Lundkvist, Henriksson, and, at this point, also Ebert and a '21 4th,
unlike many here I think the rush to judgement re Howden/Hajek is premature.
for many franchises, they wouldn't have spent so much of their first 18 months pro as depth NHL'ers, they'd have been brought along more patiently.
They are well on course for full NHL careers as regulars.

We dodged a bullet with Callahan and getting Zib was Gorts finest move, just pointing out how everything this franchise does has a funny away of coming back to bite them in the ass in the most hilarious of ways.

Only the Rangers. It takes a special kind of (horrible luck) for that to happen. 4 years in row??? That's, like, insane.

we all know that this organization is rich in dmen especially young rightys. we have many and other organizations see the skill of tony and adam and know that nils is close. strength

we also know our forward depth was abysmal. weakness.

this trade makes perfect sense and again shows that gorton makes deals that just seem right. they all dont always work out but you cant fault the framework for this deal.

i dont always like the drafting results but i gotta give it up for jeff when it comes to deals like this.

Yea and it’s also better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late

Fair enough with JT. I think the most upsetting thing is we always knew he had this in him. Maybe it took him getting traded (twice) to be the wake up call he truly needed to have the light bulb go off.

What pisses me off though is that it's clear he and AV didnt see eye to eye. My thoughts on AV are clear and I believe JT was one of many of our guys to be infected with the "AV-itis", and after the Tampa trade it was reported AV thought he was uncoachable, so AV won out there.. only to be fired two months later? That makes no sense and shows a horrible lack of foresight on Gorton's part. The fact that AV was still being factored into future personnel decisions as late as Feb 2018 is a scary thought...

At the very least, if AV had been fired once he blew the Ottawa series we probably keep him beyond the McDonagh trade, maybe we are the proud owners of that shiny VAN 1st round pick that just got a huge boost with Boeser out.

GAUTHIER comp:

ALEX TUCH but julien has better wheels. not quite the pure offensive ability that alex has but a close comparison.

we all were talking about tuch few weeks back.

makes sense, need a forward to replace CK and this kid has the goods to perhaps be that guy.

size, speed and a heavy shot.

for joey keene ? sign me up

Saying Gaultier has better wheels than Tuch is high praise. Tuch is an enigma with just an average hockey IQ, never takes the body & really needs to learn how to use his size to his advantage, but there is no denying his skating is elite.(To his credit, Tuch also has a laser of a wrist shot & exceptional hands around the net.) If you're saying this kid has anything resembling Tuch's ability to play a north-south game & handle the puck at full speed, sign me up.
