7.5m? That’s nice, you don’t magically get to set market prices in your own head though.I might've done something as high as 8 years at $7.5M AAV.
There will be a time where players need to not be greedy, that is if they want to win and not upset the fanbase. Because the lesser the greed, the more likely there'll be of the respective team being given a chance of winning the Stanley Cup. Look at Toronto for example.

The real problem contracts are crappier players making more than they’re worth. NYR have some iffy longterm deals and this isn’t one of them.
Fox, who just won the Norris trophy, doesn’t need to take less than Trouba to be a team guy. He’s worth more than 9.5m, he doesn’t have to make himself more of a bargain to create cap space either.
The Toronto contracts are worse because those AAV seemed high enough to me, even now, to get more UFA years than just one (Matthews) or two (Marner).
The Fox’s 7 years/9.5m includes 4 UFA years.
Heiskanen’s 8 years/8.45m also includes 4 UFA years.
Werenski’s 6 years/9.583m includes 5 UFA years.
McAvoy’s 8 years/9.5m includes 6 UFA years.
Makar’s 6 year/9m only has 1 UFA year.
Every minor league player in the world with the potential to go pro should be hiring Marner's agent...
so they gotta trade Trouba at some point right
He makes a good point. Thats insane, hopefully he keeps the hunger. I feel like the Oilers ruined RNH, Ebs and Hall with those 6x6 contracts. Its too much money for 1.5 yearsIs the league in a better place with the GMs giving all that jack to 29 year olds with 5 or 6 good seasons, but with the near certainty that the next 5 or 6 aren't going to be as good? I'd take my chances with the former.
IR. And Kreider will also have to go to IR. Both have injury histories though, so it should work.
Because they have a large body of work and you have a better sample size for your expectations? This contract also locks him in from ages 24-31, why exactly do people want high value contracts for players into their mid-30's again?
It really comes down to whether or not they want to keep Strome and how much $ he wants. Kakko hasn't broken out, so I'm not seeing a big raise there. Blais will get a pay bump and so will Rooney but it won't be unmanageable. Gauthier is a trade sweetener at this point - so is Hajek. Strome is the real question mark.

Lol I remember when I was arguing with a Rangers fan who was insisting Fox would take a discount because "he loves the Rangers so much". Turns out he didn't
This is a perfectly fair contract but the Rangers are going to be in an awful cap situation in the near future.
Trouba is going on IR at 30/31 years old? That'd be convenient.
Fox is absolutely worth 10M+. What’s disappointing though is that many expected Fox to take a significant discount. Where else was he going to play? This is his childhood team, and they have cap problems.
This deal only makes the cap problems worse. That means that the next guys to get big deals are going to have to take discounts, otherwise they won’t be able to stay. It would’ve been nice to set a culture of players taking less, but I guess when Shestyorkin and Fox see Panarin, Trouba, and Kreider get huge deals that they aren’t going to accept a discount.
I'm a Devs fan who hates the Rags, but you guys not watching are wrong on Fox. He's better than Makar defensively. Makar is better scoring pts. for sure. Gonna be a pain in our ass for at least 7 yrs now!Even Makar is better defensively.
Dahlin > Fox defensively
