Might as well say you aren't interested. We aren't trading a 1st with Nylander.
What thats a great deal for us?

Kyrou makes 8.125M long term whicb is a great deal for us

He has been almost as productive as nylander the last 2 years with less help. Hes a bit younger too

Saad is extra on the deal and a 1st is fairish value for him

I just dont know if we can afford that deal cap wise but value wise its a win for us

A Package built around Raymond would probably get it done. The leafs would want a young D man too, but Kubalik would be good value to the leafs too. Creates tons of space for them as well.
Detroit media wants Nylander or marner

Tough to judge his value because his next contract demands will be very high. As good as he is offensively he can’t be a teams best player and leader. It is hard to give a player like that something that starts with a 9 and it be a success by the end of the contract.

Yeah, the deal is mostly about the swap of players. I personally am fond of Nylander, and would not mind swap Kyrou for him. Kyrou is more of an individual skills style, while Nylander seems to utilize his teammates more. This seems to be better suited for the development of our future lines and the next crop of prospects coming up shortly, like Bolduc, Suggerud, Dean, etc.

Kyrou is signed to a reasonable deal long term, and given that Nylander's next contract likely will be 1-3M higher than Kyrou's, that should ease the pain for you guys long term. So has quite a bit more value in the current situation, the 1st is in part to even out that value. Saad is probably mostly worth a 2nd to a contender. He would be more helpful to you guys than to us in the next couple of years, if you ignore the salary. So overall the value is pretty fair, if not slightly in favor of the Leafs.

And like I said, you can send back any short term cap dumps to even out the salary. Most other Blues fans probably won't do this deal, but I'm reasonably bullish on Nylander. We will try to ink him to something like 9M X 5 or similar. If he wants much higher AAV or max term, then we will probably look to move him at the TDL to recoup assets.

I'd be calling Carolina in a deal for Pesce + Kotkaniemi for Nylander + Brodie. Leafs may have to add a bit but it would be a deal that helps both teams.

I wonder what the value for him in a sign and trade would be like?

As Leaf fans we just have to accept, he’s not getting traded unless they go in the toilet before the deadline, and if he stays, they likely won’t have the new contract until after the season. Likely after July 1.

That’s just the reality of being in a cup window.

Imo the only way it could work is if the team trading for him wants to move him to C and is willing to pay 1C value. I don’t think there’s a realistic winger value that would make sense unless we run into extreme injuries and the season looks over by the deadline.

It will take a serious haul for your GM to even dream of trading for Willy Nylander.

This is true. I guess we will see how the contracts in T.O shake out.
Tough to say…. I’d say tkachuk is a realistic comparison contract wise….. but maybe nylander says to hell with that I want 10+ since Tavares matthews and marner got it

They have cap space, but they have a lot of holes to fill too

Well, that's the price.

At least for Nylander who is unsigned beyond next year, for another roughly comparable scorer who is signed long term.

Any team who would trade for Nylander could also sign him, that’s not an issue

And apparently sign him to a much much better value contract than the Leafs ever could (according to these boards, as soon as the leafs sign him he will be massively overpaid)

So you should be adding a draft pick to whatever the price is for the privilege of signing him yourself, instead of letting Treliving overpay him for you

I imagine the leafs offer him whatever he wants. Hes going to be over 10mil regardless. If they do sign him they are just going to be the Oilers of the east. Completely top heavy and massive holes everywhere else.

What’s the net difference between 10m in Toronto and 10m in Florida? After the taxes.

That will be the case for maybe 1 season, but once Tavares' deal is up the leafs will go back to a similar structure as now, except the cap will actually rise and they can better fill holes

An influx of young talent on ELCs is also on the way with Knies, Robertson, Minten, and Cowan. Toronto is set up really well for the future and signing Nylander is the obvious decision
