And your point is?
That Nylander sitting is the worst outcome for both parties. The absolute last-ditch effort here should be a bridge-and-trade, whether that trade is this season or sometime later. Letting him sit for a year isn't going to help the Leafs any more than forcing a bad trade right now would.

So theres no downsidenin Nylander sitting from a Leafs perspective?

No pressure that a wasted asset is on the sidelines ??

Hmmm i dont think you see things from management POV.

They want to win now while their young stars are on ELC. They cant keep playing this game w nylander.

Sign him or move him.

Sitting would be a massive L for both parties

The Leafs want to win period. They don't want to burn themselves out trying to achieve something too early because of the thought that it's now or never.

The Leafs certainly lose with Nylander sitting out. He's a very good player and any team that has him in the line up is better for it. That being said they are not going to over pay him or trade him for lesser assets just because they are afraid he may sit.

As far as the ELC talk goes I guess Buffalo, Edmonton, Colorado and any number of teams who have had their young superstars get past their ELC without winning a cup are all massive failures too. For that matter why even celebrate Washington's cup win when it didn't happen under OV's ELC.

The Leafs want a consistently good team. One that can compete for a cup for several years. Making a trade that brings back lesser value doesn't make the Leafs anymore of a champion than it does if they do nothing.

Not really. The leverage he has is that if the Leafs sign him now they can very possibly win this year before they have to re-sign a ton of big players next year. People keep saying it's fine if he sits, and it's easy to say that now. Wait until the Leafs are deep in the playoffs and it's looking like another productive forward or a d-man they could have gotten for him in return could stave off elimination or win them a cup. The same people who think him sitting is so acceptable right now will be rioting, and rightfully so.
Like who? People keep posting this stuff like there have been reports of multiple top 4D offered. Maybe other GMs have no interest in trading for a player that wants to be overpaid?

Toronto will literally have to sell him eventually, unless you think Dubas is going to allow his franchise to be the one who sits a player multiple years in a row

Dubas will never let that happen. The sooner you trade him the better the offer is. Sit a year? Offers lower. Willing to sit again? May be worth almost nothing
Oh come on.

Toronto will get more on the draft floor than a shot gun deal in the next 48 hours.

I don't want any trade to happen because I don't know if there is a trade that makes both sides happy. I think Leaf fans are underrating Pesce and some of the comments I have read over the past several threads about him are laughably uninformed.

Nylander also doesn't touch Slavin. So what can the plus be to Pesce? Is there a plus? I think the Leafs will need one. So what can we add? Well, Waddell said he won't offer sheet as the pick could easily be top 3. I agree, first rounders are out of the question. So it would have to be either 2nd rounders or prospects.

I can tell you right now Svech and Necas are off the table. They are far too important for the future to move for someone like Nylander.

So who is left? Anyone who Toronto will value enough to consider the add on? I don't know.

I don't know if I see a fit.

Pesce and Nylander is pretty damn close.

Hamilton.

Of course sitting is a loss for both sides but overpaying him or trading for scraps would be a disaster.

Maybe he wont be traded for scraps but i think it will be a lesser level Dman from the ones leaf fans are demanding for. But picks would be included as Leafs need as many producing players on elc on their roster in the upcoming yrs.

thats so untrue it hurts to beloeve you think that

exactly what part of you thinks sitting a player for a year RAISES his value?

i mean talk about the biggest homer scenario ever

and then hell sit again the next year

Because news flash, players values drop after sitting a year not rise.
And yet the Leafs seasons will continue and in fact they will continue to win while Nylander will lose in this scenario 2 years worth of NHL experience and salary. Seems like one party in this is inconvenienced, while the other literally loses everything.

Well, apparently Dubas hasn't liked the offers....and seeing as he's the guy in charge, i guess he will let that happen.

Slavin or nothing from CAR.

Not happening then. We would entertain Matthews, Tavares, or Marner for Slavin +. Nothing short of that kind of overpayment will get a player of Slavin's quality and value from Carolina. We have zero reason to move him, and are a worse team if we deal him for Nylander.

I know you love your guy, but in what world is a 60 point winger worth a 1D? Even if you never watch Slavin and consider him a #2D based on metrics/stats, Slavin's contract term and $$$ still makes him untouchable for William F'n Nylander.

It's been said ad nauseum.... you want Slavin, it is going to hurt. Nylander doesn't get it done.

I still think Pesce is the best offer you are going to get (from any team). If that doesn't get it done, fine. Our window isn't now. We can wait and watch Svechnikov develop and add some more weapons for a run next year (after we upgrade in net).
Yeah I don't really see a fit between the teams Pesche is not enough and Slavin is too much. Pluses to Pesche and Slavin also don't really help the teams out either.

As far as bridges burnt, it's not the Leafs who have to worry about that, its Nylander.
If he sits this season and then refuses to sign in TO and demands a trade, it means nothing. Leafs can sit him next year too, if they want. In fact, they can sit him until he's 27.
If he wants out, the quickest way is to sign a bridge deal, perform well his year and get dealt in the summer in a FAIR trade that benefits Toronto.

Any other thought of leverage on his side is just a wet dream from salty fans of other teams.

Well eventually they need to trade or sign him because have him sit for years is like having money in the bank and never being paid interest.

They already are getting nothing in return this year if he does not sign.

You will run an organization into the ground if you don't get a least some return on an assets at some point

If he does not sign it will be easier to do a deal at the draft when there is more cap flexibility

And maybe they will have a better idea of Matthew's contract to allow more flexibility with the cap and they can reach a deal before th start of next season

Why is Toronto being forced to trade him right now, this very second for a underwhelming return?

Much like the realestate market, During the winter when the market is slow, you wait for the spring/summer and sell in the hot market for a higher price.

Carolina should definitely keep Slavin, he is a stud. Referring to Nylander as a 60 point winger underrates him, though. He was a 61 point winger as a 20 and 21 year old getting 16 minutes of ice time a game. As he hits his prime and his ice times goes up, so will his production. Also, he was drafted as a center. The Leafs dont need him to play center, but on a team without Matthews/ Tavares/ Kadri he would definitely get a shot.

The + would have to be another Nylander . Dumba is on pace for like 30 goals 60 + points. He's a top pairing young RHD. Nylander is an unsigned winger.
Ya, I don't see that. The plus would be small, like a 1st( which would be a very late first, in the Leaf's case). If the Leafs threw in Liljegren, then the Wild would have to consider it. They might even have to send a 2nd or 3rd back the other way. It really depends on how Fenton sees Nylander as a player, and how outrageous his demands are for a long term deal.
It goes w/o saying that no deal is done unless a deal is arranged first, or the team receiving him will be in the same boat as TML.

I can't help but feel that Dubas already two deals ready for Nylander to sign, a Bridge and a long term. It is in neither parties best interest to sit out the year.

If a deal is made for a Dman, then Dubas would want someone with a lesser cap hit, or a Dman that is so good that they don't have to worry about re-upping Gardiner( saving a boat load of cash).

I think someone like Spurgeon is a better fit than Dumba( from MN), myself.
