Nylander for Gudas & Provorov

It's like we're just throwing the pasta against the wall to keep checking if it's done....

Be patient. if By next week you don't have a deal for Nylander, you can up end the entire pot of pasta against the wall and see if anything sticks.

jfc guys this was fun a month ago, how are some of y’all still arguing about this?!?! i applaud your dedication though
Yeah, some people have committed an incredible amount of time and posts to this subject without any actual concrete information to drive discussion.
I wonder if the failure to resolve the stalemate will put this tired topic on ice for awhile.

Seriously, what on earth am I missing about Slavin? That seems beyond lopsided in the Canes' favor to me.
Meh. Liljren has done nothing to indicate he is gonna be of anything of value in the AHL he is a tire fire defensively and can barely get 0.5 ppg in the AHL. He is nothing more than a throw in prospect. Leafs fans acting like he is some bluechip prospect doesnt change the fact that he is gonna be nothing more than a tweener his whole career. That trade is horrible for Carolina.

I think its safe to assume that players like

Payarko
Slavin
Provorov
Dumba

Etc... arent being offered otherwise the Leafs would have jumped on it already.

I think other GMs are trying to take advantage of Dubas being a rookie GM by offering him scraps for Nylander.

Nylander has really put the Leafs in a bad spot here.

Take the Scraps, let Nylander sit for a year, or sign him to an overpayment.

Seems like the only choices for Dubas right now.

I mean I guess anything can happen but it's not the end of the world. You are on record as not a fan of Nylander so I am not sure why you are so concerned if he were to leave.

I think you have me confused with Leafs fans who seem to have soured on Nylander a little during this process,

However, I am curious as a proud Canes and Leafs fan you proclaim yourself as. I think Canes fans would like to know what A Leafs/Canes fan would consider fair if a trade were to happen between the 2 teams. All I have seen from you is the Leafs perspective. Can the Canes fan come out and opine a little on their behalf for a change.

Agreed as much as Leafs fans like to act like they have the leverage they really dont. While they are winning they can act like they can let him sit but its really early in the season and as soon as a losing streak comes he will be missed. Leafs either overpay him or trade him from a position of weakness.

Or sign him for market value, which is what's going to happen.

So what is your percentage on any of the following occurring within the next 48 hours or so:

(1) Signs with Toronto for longer term (i.e., 4+ years)

(2) Signs with Toronto for a bridge term (i.e., more than one year but less than 4 years)

(3) Signs with Toronto for a one year deal through the end of the remainder of this year

(4) Traded by Toronto

(5) Fails to sign and is not traded and will not play in the NHL this season.

As far as the Leafs not having the leverage...yes they do.

As far as the Leafs can't let him sit...yes they can.

There are 3 options:
1. Sign Nylander to a deal that works for the team.
2. Trade Nylander for a deal that works for the team.
3. Sit Nylander.

In no way are they forced to trade him in a deal they don't like.

Or you know, there is the most likely scenario....a bridge deal and then trade him in the offseason as a signed asset to maximize his value.
But that works out for the Leafs, so therefore is impossible.

I don't even care what happens, but just want it to happen.

Either way these threads are gonna be hilarious to read afterwards.

Seems like the most likely scenario by far at this point. It'll be interesting to see who steps up to go through all of this again in 2-3 years, but I'm sure someone will.

Disagree.

Option 3 with be a catastrophic disaster for the Leafs especially considering this is the last yr Marner and Mathews are on their ELC.

I also think you can say bye bye to any future of Nylander being a leaf if he sits this. Too many bridges would have been burnt on both sides of the relationship if that happens.

Agree 100%

Funny how the leaf haters think the only option the leafs have all result in them getting screwed.

That flamerforcup is quite the character.

No way he gets traded. If he does not sign with Toronto. He Sits!

As far as bridges burnt, it's not the Leafs who have to worry about that, its Nylander.
If he sits this season and then refuses to sign in TO and demands a trade, it means nothing. Leafs can sit him next year too, if they want. In fact, they can sit him until he's 27.
If he wants out, the quickest way is to sign a bridge deal, perform well his year and get dealt in the summer in a FAIR trade that benefits Toronto.

Any other thought of leverage on his side is just a wet dream from salty fans of other teams.
