I still believe that Nylander will be re-signed, and he'll play well enough that this standoff becomes just a footnote in his career with the Leafs. Until any concrete information becomes available indicating otherwise, there's really no point in jumping to any other conclusion.
I'm impressed with Dubas and the Leaf management's handling of the negotiations. They've always acknowledged the challenges of the Toronto market and the importance of blocking out noise. They appear to be following this philosophy well, and haven't buckled to external pressures. Nothing appears to have been leaked, so all the speculation about this being Nylander's last season as a Leaf even if he re-signs isn't as conclusive as some may think. It all comes down to the communications between the two sides, which none of us are privy to.
I guess we'll find out soon, but I'm sure there are many other Leaf fans like myself who are just patiently waiting to see what will happen without worrying about the "disaster scenarios" some are convinced will happen.
