I just don't know if he signs because I don't think either side wants to give anymore. Maybe the finality of the issue being near will make someone blink. Someone is gonna have to say uncle.
or blood will be had and the word uncle shall never be ushered....

or Dubas aint got no nipples

Faulk is a non-starter.
He often starts for the Canes.

Yeh Faulk is not a good defenseman at all. He'd only be useful next to an awesome defensive defenseman who can cover up for his poor defense, which the leads definitely dont have.

He's been fantastic this year in his own zone. The scoring is not what it was a couple of years ago, but his defense has been fantastic.

he's not even going to be a Leaf after this season.

If he signs by this Saturday I would bet he's not traded and at least plays out his contract. Only holdout that ended up traded is Turris and he was a 30 point guy getting 4th line minutes, not a first line winger that's a core piece of your team.

Like who? People keep posting this stuff like there have been reports of multiple top 4D offered. Maybe other GMs have no interest in trading for a player that wants to be overpaid?
I don't know but I'm also not pretending I do. The fact is we're talking about a 22 year old player who has already scored 60 points twice. He'd be the leading producer on a lot of teams and a lot of teams have a lot more future cap space than Toronto. "Other" GMs give out stupid deals to worse players multiple times every season.

Once he's signed, I can't wait for all the basement dwellers to freshen up their Mountain Dews and then start discussing how the Leafs are going to lose Marner/Mathews next year.
It's crazy how much thought, time and energy fans of other teams put into the Leafs. It's kind of sad/pathetic.
sort of how crazy how much thought you're putting into these basement dweller's next posts? just ignore them

Pesce has had a lot of injuries over last season and this season.
Yes, hes not as fragile as Tanev but Tanev's acquisition costs and superior ability tilt the scales in his favor IMO.
Not a fan of either.

Dubas is not trading Willy for either of them anyhow.

I still believe that Nylander will be re-signed, and he'll play well enough that this standoff becomes just a footnote in his career with the Leafs. Until any concrete information becomes available indicating otherwise, there's really no point in jumping to any other conclusion.

I'm impressed with Dubas and the Leaf management's handling of the negotiations. They've always acknowledged the challenges of the Toronto market and the importance of blocking out noise. They appear to be following this philosophy well, and haven't buckled to external pressures. Nothing appears to have been leaked, so all the speculation about this being Nylander's last season as a Leaf even if he re-signs isn't as conclusive as some may think. It all comes down to the communications between the two sides, which none of us are privy to.

I guess we'll find out soon, but I'm sure there are many other Leaf fans like myself who are just patiently waiting to see what will happen without worrying about the "disaster scenarios" some are convinced will happen.

Hey, i have no issue with trading Nylander for an equal value D in a 1 for 1 deal. I wouldn't do a lesser valued D+ though.

Signs tomorrow, practices with the team on Sunday/Monday and is in the lineup, lighting it up, against the Sabres on Tuesday.
from your mouth to god's ears

Leafs are not in a position of strength. If I am Waddell I wait till Dubas comes to me. If it is correct what Nylander is asking for. I keep Pesce. So even that might be off the table.
The Leafs are also not under any pressure to move Nylander with 5 years of control, so it's probably not Dubas going to anyone, just opening the door to other GM's coming to him (which is how the reports on the process are coming in)

ultimately Nylander is a very good young player that every team in the league will have interest in (the same can be said for any player of his age and tier), and if he's traded it will be because someone wants him

Agreed.
I was saying how if the Leafs wanted a player like Pesce, they could just a trade a 1st+ and get Tanev from Vancouver.
Players like Nylander dont get traded for players like Pesce/Tanev.

No they do not.

I still think he signs tomorrow. This should get done.

That Nylander sitting is the worst outcome for both parties. The absolute last-ditch effort here should be a bridge-and-trade, whether that trade is this season or sometime later. Letting him sit for a year isn't going to help the Leafs any more than forcing a bad trade right now would.
Nope, the worst possible outcome would be the Leafs caving to his demands at the 11th hour and offering him the Draistaitl contract it is claimed he is holding out for ($8.5 million) when nothing about his production so far indicates he is anywhere near this and as a result the Leafs maybe not bring able to sign Marner (who is substantially better) this offseason.

A bad deal is worse than no deal. If Nylander really refuses to budge on AAV down to his actual market value (say via a bridge deal, which by all accounts he has resisted until now), and a trade isn’t available that offers similar value then the best option available (or least-bad) is for Dubas to hold his nerve and let Nylander sit out the season. When the alternatives are either: severely overpay him and risk losing a significantly better player next year as a result or trade him for pennies on the dollar, then yeah, letting him sit the season is the only viable option.

Turris had seasons of 58,64,55,42.... and yet you call him a 30 pt guy. Sure bud.
