Best value player. Very solid, not perfect but can put them in the net. Overpay offer or we just keep him. I think he really wants to win.

Nylander is playing playoff hockey, unlike most of this team. Does Nylander really want to be 4th guy on a team that doesn't care about the postseason?
We're not overpaying Nylander, that's reserved for others. If you are Nylander getting to UFA, what is your priority? Money? Being the guy? Winning in playoffs?
What can we even offer to Nylander, realistically?

If I were in his shoes and nothing is changing around here. I would go somewhere else with lower tax for an overpay stateside. I could say the same thing about Matthews as well though.
I think that going stateside offers the best of both worlds, winning and money. The Leafs organization from my point of view is not capable of winning at the management and coaching level. They can't even be trusted and all promises at this point would fall on my def ears.
Nothing, nothing we can offer but an overpay because we lost all credibility in all other areas. That's me being honest with myself and truly putting myself in anothers shoes without all the data.

Only teams looking to quickly turn the ship around would move such a high pick. (ex: Sens last season moving the 7th overall)
The Habs (5th), Flyers (7th) & Caps (8th) fit that description.

I think he is that core piece that might get traded if they lose round 1 again. Just make sure whoever you get is either a RFA or already signed long term.

Nylander's goal was the high point of the game. Such a beauty snipe that made it 3-2, game on!

Willie has been the only player consistantly scoring the last few playoff losses.. And he's had the most consistant season yet, even though he did tail off a bit at the end. But he carried them when Matthews wasn't scoring.
It would be nice if we could keep him. But I think he'll want more than what he's getting now, probably in the 9 million, and leafs just don't have the cap.

Of course he wants more than he's getting now and I don't think it's a given that we can't fit him in under the cap either. It's just a matter of priorities and he's pretty damn high on my priority list. That could change in the next week or two (hopefully more weeks) of course but as it stands now, I'm all about the playoffs and winning the cup and these last few playoffs, Nylander's been at least on the same tier as M&M and he'll take up less cap space so I say pay that man his money.

That's the problem. With JT and Rielly having NMCs, if he isn't willing to continue to be the only bargain of the five (and even $9 would be a comparative bargain), Dubas has painted himself in a corner.
Out of the core 4, Willy is by far the best playoff performer.

The correct response to the thread question is give him a raise and re-sign him.
If they go out 1st round you trade the 3 amigos for a haul because they cant/wont get us to the Cup. You start fresh with all the picks/players they get + the new Coach & Mgmt. They've had multiple chances....time to cut bait.
I prefer the player he is when he dons the Swedish sweater....

He play better with Sweden because another system, faster players then Tavares. And he is the go to guy.
There he plays for his country and isnt paid. Here....he chases the $. Either way we've seen what he can do ....1 game on, 3 games indifferent. We need committed players that give it 100%. Look at ROR and McDavid for example....they never take a day off. Even AM is playing like he'd prefer to be in the US....we'll never win with indifferent players esp ones that take up so much of the cap.
