What do we do with Nylander?

I'd definitely lean towards signing him if his ask is around 8.5M.

As the team seems to be transitioning into a more grinding style of hockey I hope he can find his place again. I'd sign him for 8 a year.

He's pretty much played his way out of a monster contract. If he wants to stay for about what he made this contract, I'd be ok with that. No more than 5 years though, IMO.

Without knowing he expects in term of AAV or what the trade return would be, there is no definitive answer.

That being said, I suspect he will want more than the Leafs are willing/able to pay, so I would look at a trade

I would attempt a re-sign. Doesn't mean it will be successful and if the ask is beyond the imagination of the team, you trade for something. It's pretty routine stuff for good players

Why not discuss it whenever?
We're a week away from the playoffs. One would think attention would be there.
It's also a pointless question. The obvious answer is re-sign, especially according to the specifics laid out in the OP, and anybody with a different answer would likely have that answer be dependant on results we don't yet have.

He is not signing for under 9.5
Is there another 83 point forward making 9.5m ?? He's another Hyman if he wants 9.5m. Speaking of Hyman who signed for 5.5m:

Yes, Hyman playing with McDavid has as many points as Nylander playing with JT.

Even without looking at the other winger, do you think that's a fair comparison?
Nylander clearly the better player but not worth 9.5m so if that is his ask you gotta move on like you did with Hyman except you trade Nylander. That is the comparison. His 83 points is why he is not worth 9.5m.

You keep him, because he's a good player and you should keep good players especially ones you can't replace

The difference is you can replace Hyman, they did in fact they upgraded on him.

You aren't replacing Nylander.

It's one thing to replace a Hyman or Bunting It's another to replace Nylander

Sign him.

Once Tavares’ deal is done, they’ll need him for the McDavid trade or to play his wing when he signs as an FA.

;)

Get what you are saying. In a trade you are not replacing Nylander. You just need to get full market value and more and then look for a cheaper option who can play in the top 6. At the end of the day, unless the cap rises significantly you can't keep running back 4 forwards chewing up half the cap.

At 900K Bunting is good value but he is not Hyman. He is a weasel, but I like him in our bottom 6. Bunting is likely signing for $3-4m next year but I'd rather have Hyman at 5.5m.

Round #2 is going to go a long way in telling us who the men and boys are and how the Leafs move forward IMO.

If they sign Nylanders"not play with Tavares and not on thirdline or below" demand.

Joking aside, stop forcing those players together.
