It really shouldn’t matter what anybody makes at this time of year should it?
Aren’t they now playing because they’re driven to win for themselves, their teammate’s and the fans?
Now is the time to give it your all whether you’re making min, max or anything in between.
If only we worked in platitudes and not financial reality.

5 mil extra is a great goalie, 5 mil is a good defenseman. So far this playoff run we have 1 great guy, and 1 totally fluke great guy that were uber lucky for. Everyone else on D? disaster.

Now we're gonna say something like. Guys Tavares tries uber hard, it doesn't matter he has like 0 5 on 5 goals this entire season. Nylander doesn't try hard and gets 30 5 on 5 goals. That's worse than trying hard.

Here's a participation award Tavares. I rue the day we had the worse timing for Matthews being Captain.

Look at cold hard facts. Nylander was better than Matthews or Marner has ever been in the 3rd period. In fact the only players we've seen better then that in a period is Mcdavid, Drai, and Mckininn.

yes, he's not consistent. let him play pp1 and with a center who isn't stylistically exact opposite. Kerfoot's better with Nylander than Tavares, and that's and indictment on tavares. Lets try and see what he can do without nerfs.

God fcking Tavares pisses me off, improve your horrific skating, in a year or two you're gonna be worse than a triple A out of highschool.

Numbers do not look good. Are we blaming JT for Willie's -5 ?

Maybe that’s why he is this way, people praise his offensive prowess, even when his effort is easily the worst on the entire team. It’s not even that he’s bad defensively, look at his first half this year, he was great, hustling, disrupting, winning pucks to exit the zone, I was loving him. This is why I’m more angry than usual, you showed me you have it in you Willie, now is when we need it. This guy will always dazzle and his goals absolve the other bullshit, but he’s simply been a liability this playoffs and it’s just lazy, rather than mediocre ability. Anyways he will score again and we will get the “suck it haters” crap, but for me I’ll be looking for some desire on our side of the red line, then I’m back on board with the flow.
Well said!

I heard a couple of interviews this morning where he said " we just gotta keep BATTLING" I spit coffee all over my monitor. That is the epitome of IRONIC. That is his curse, when he competes (battles) he is world class, but that is way way too rare. He will compete for a period then disappears.
Lets see if he battles... for a whole 60 minutes tonight??

It fell of a cliff when he was put with Tavares. Their styles drain each other, because they seldom synk. It makes Nylander to have to do everything himself. Not a concept of success a full game on a line.

And being snakebitten and overthinking every decision aint lazyness. It is a lack in belive in yourself. It is not the same as not working hard because u dont feel like it.
His way out of it is doing the small things right get the flow under his feet going and ultimate go most on instinct. But it is easy said, harder to do, especialy with a slow player on his side.

I question other top players maturety way before Nylanders. He never answered media like Samsonov or Marner. Or had off ice stuff like Matthews.
Yet he was the best player on the ice in the 3rd playing with and setting up Tavares. I prefer he does not play with JT but if he puts in the same effort he did in the 3rd, playing with Tavares in not the issue IMO.

These players have been anointed leaders of the team: Rielly, marner, Matthews and Tavares.

Nylander is the motivate by punishment player.
From what you have written, that approach doesn't seem to be working.

Well in all fairness he does get to rest on the bench for most of that 60 minutes.... How about battle hard every shift?

I am pretty sure Willy is being traded this off season unless they win the cup. He is going to want a lot more money on the next one...and especially from the Leafs after they forced only him to take "team friendly" deal and not the others. They should look at getting something for him before it's too late.

I think Willy will thrive on his next team if he is the top dog. He seems to thrive on it and not so much being 5th fiddle of whatever he is here. He was taken off the PP1 for some foresaken reason by Keefe..they keep him with JT on 5v5...and then they expect him to make up for it in other ways. In some ways I can see his point...they really don't appreciate him and treat him as such. Although, I will say that he does deserve some of the grief he gets around here...that is for certain. But they still handle him incorrectly IMO.

Quicksand(Tavares) can make you angry. But when u fight quicksand it just drags you in deeper. So yeah Nylander fought well with zero outcome. That is draining in its highest meaning. If he play like that with, for him, better suited players, good things will happen. The problem is he never get the chance.

Nylander plays elite when he's playing guilty. That's why they don't hesitate to single him out whereas Mitch needs to be coddled. It's both admirable but like you said infuriating.

Maybe the next step in his career will be getting the boot from Toronto and playing with a permanent chip on his shoulder, a la Kadri. Kind of get kicked out of the nest and realize you're not a golden child with forever to make your mark.
Or play in Sweden & for Sweden FULL time..

I'd take Tkachuk over Willy any day....

At 9.5mx8 I'll take Tkachuk over skip.

Yeah, and over marner and Tavares.

At 2+m less, do you take MT over Matty ??

Tough one to answer.

One hopes that is a bad deal for Leafs but I think it has yet to be determined.

It's hilarious.
This is one of the dumbest takes I've ever read.

Until this year, Tkachuck had a playoff statline like this:

He was an absolute bust in the playoffs for the longest time.
The first 4 years, he had 5 points over the course of 3 series.

Last year, on a team that absolutely dominated the regular season and he put up 100 points, he got all of 10 points and was a -6.
In fact, after winning the first series in a miraculous fashion in game 7, Calgary demolished Edmonton in Game 1.

And then lost 4 in a row with Tkachuck being completely invisible.

I swear Leafs fans have the memory of a golf ball.
