Dubas?

When he shies away from contact u will remember the numbers

All our big 3 have decent to good numbers and we all know what happens in playoffs lol
Even if this were true, how does that take away from having a higher PPG in the playoffs? That is not disappearing.

He also doesn't shy away as much as you are claiming. He has made some soft plays here and there but he drives the net and will lean on people on the boards

Because when games get tough he and others don’t step up

U can score a powerplay goal or empty net goal and still not have a good game

There’s a reason his stats go down vs the bostons, Vegas etc

Again we fall in love every regular season and then wonder what happened in playoffs

Score 3 pts in a game and dissapear for many other games which is what happens to all three and we’re out

He has a better PPG average in the playoffs over the last 3 seasons than regular season

Yep. He's literally one of the guys who unequivocally elevated his game in the post season.

I think some folks need to leave behind his rookie/sophomore seasons. He's a completely different player now, it's not 2017 any longer lol

If its 11m, its 11m. I'll worry about Marner's contract when it comes up, but he's probably gone just due to expiring after.
I can see Marner given the door if they sign Willy...we can't have this fab 4 making so much money anymore. It might be one of the reasons Mitchy is kinda choking it this season. He knows there is only so much money going around and if they even go crazy and give Willy $11M....its basically what MM gets now. MM will want $13M just to keep pace with his buddy AM....I hope that doesn't happen here at least.

That doesn't even seem crazy anymore.

I've reached the point where if I had to choose one of these two to play for me for the next 5 years, 7 years or whatever, I take Nylander. Yeah I know Marner kills penalties and is defensively superior, but Nylander is an offensive force in a way that Marner never has been and never will be. And perhaps most important is that when the pressure is cranked up to the max, Nylander seems oblivious to it all whereas Marner doesn't hold up very well at all.

Shanahan was the one who pushed hard to draft Nylander. There's literally 0% chance he doesn't get re-signed.

Yes. This is what it comes down to me for as well, Marner imo hasn't lived up to his cap hit, and now we're going to give him a raise on his next contract just cause? No thanks, Marner just doesn't have the ability to takeover games (relative to his cap hit) which is what this is all comes down to. I'm annoyed the organization hasn't moved off this player already.

There's abslotely zero reason for Willie to accept anything less than Marner and Tavares, nobody else took less, why should he?

Marner has lived up to his cap hit. It's proven he even exceeds his cap hit at times during the regular season.

The issue however is that my sentence makes no reference to the playoffs.

I haven’t been keeping up with the rumours or opinions on his next contract.

What are you guys looking for? Exactly, and what kind of rumours are suggesting the amount?

What would be the realistic worst case scenario, and best case scenario for you guys for nylander?

I wouldn't be surprised if Nylanders attitude is OK, you guys are going to extend Marner in the summer so I'm just going to wait and see what his cap hit ends up being before I sign anything.

Toronto will sign Willie. Then, in the off-season, they will sign Marner. They aren't going to let these players go. The cap savings will come from the goaltending position.

Lol
Last playoffs he was ok, out of the 3 he was the best one but just before that he was cruising in the playoffs and people here were asking for his head.

In the same way that everyone wants to offload marner currently yet he has 18 pts in 16 games….has he been good or no?
It’s difference where u simply look at stats and go off that then you become Kyle dubas or you watch every game like most here do and know how all these guys play, specially in the playoffs where it matters most.

Last few runs it’s wasn’t because of our defence that we lost but lack of scoring and poor powerplay that we can’t do anything in the hard playoff season!!

Anyways don’t get me wrong I love nylander and right now support sign him and let go marner but don’t fall in love with regular season because that’s where teams make their mistakes and get in cap hell like we are and what vancouver will prob be doing soon.

I’m all for signing nylander, let marner and tavares wait till we know what McDavid does the u can see about marner and assuming tavares signs for half his current deal o else give the C to 34 and bye tavares

Marner's play is not doing himself any favors.

Seems every game goes by, Nylander's price/likelihood to re-sign goes up and Marner's price-likelihood to re-sign goes down.
They were both excellent today. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

Most of the off-season was Willy looking 11m, Leafs willing to go 9-10m, both as 8 years. All just speculation, there's nothing solid out there to nail down on as fact.

Worst case is he plays out the year and walks UFA obviously lol..

Best is he signs 8 years at a relative discount. I don't know what that is anymore. You don't give out an 8 year contract on 16 games, but at the moment it's hard to argue he's not worth like at least 11. Which was the high end coming in to the season, so if you can get him there you'd probably go for it.

It is pretty clear this Sweden trip was front of mind for Willy. Makes me feel it has been a major reason for his hot start.

Will be super anxious to see what his game looks like when the team gets back to North America.

Fingers crossed it is the same as what he has shown so far... a small part of me feels we see a significant drop off. Time will tell.

I don't think many players did better against Boston last year than against all the other teams combined.

Against Vegas he actually produced better in g/60 and only slightly worse (2.31 to 2.62) in p/60 at even strength (which eliminates PP and EN).

And again, in the playoffs it happened to the other three more than to Nylander.

Here's what I wonder. Was Nylander's ask based on what he had already done for the Leafs or was it based on what he felt he could do for the Leafs? If the former, then maybe he raises his ask because of his hot streak. If the latter, then this hot streak may just be proving his original ask was correct and it won't change at all.

Even at 11m you sign Nylander and figure it out. Next year will be a lot of rookie/league min contracts anyways, could go well, could go horribly.

Knies (0.925) - Matthews (13.25) - Marner (10.9)
Robertson (0.900) - Tavares (11) - Nylander (11)
Holmberg (0.800) - Kampf (2.4) - Janrkrok (2.1)
McMann (0.800) - Minten (0.845) - Cowan (0.935)
X

Rielly (7.5) - X
McCabe (2) - Liljegren (~3.5)
X - Timmins (1.1)
X

Woll (0.776)
X

Assuming a cap around 86/87m, 15-16m to find a top 4 D (Pesce, Hanifin, etc), depth D, backup goalie.

Year after that is the year to use Tavares and potentially Marner money to reconsider the depth of the roster.
