Said it before. I'd trade him before I paid him $10m. Leafs now entertaining $11+m. LOL.
Maybe your right but u can't win the trade I think I'll prefer watching good players than 2 tj brodie clones for 11 million
Bertuzzi is getting 5 lol

Willie @ 11.5mx8 or Pasta @ 11.25mx8. Who you taking? Clearly the Willie camp bent over the team that is a cash cow. The Bruins would have let him walk or traded him. It took months and a 60 goal pace for them to soften and pay Pasta.
I'd rather have Pastrnak, particularly at those numbers, but he's not available.

How about: would you rather have Nylander at 11.5 or Marner at 12.

Willy at $11.5MILx8 = $92mil.

Only the Leafs can offer him that 8th year. Meaning that on a 7-year deal, a team would have to pay him $13MIL+ to match the $92mil the Leafs are offering him.

I love Willy and want him to stay, but that is too rich. The Leafs are negotiating against themselves here.

Willy is demanding a salary in excess of what Pastrnak is making while Pastrnak has been the superior player throughout his career and Pastrnak's numbers and stats exceed Nylander's in virtually every offensive category throughout their careers.

You just can't win with 3 to 4 players taking so much of the cap. If Willy truly wants to stay a Leaf, and win with the Leafs, he ought to sacrifice.

Willy at $10.5MILx8 would be the HIGHEST I'd offer, with reluctance.

Pastrnak
Tax in Mass - $2,405,133 on $5.5mm

Nylander
Tax in Ont - - $2,911,524 on $5.5mm

Wrong again.

I'm a fan of the Stanley cup and smart moves. To get what I want I need Matthews and Nylander.

You have a fetish with cap space so you can waste your day fantasize about combos. There's a lot like you.
11.5 for a guy they could signed this summer for 10 is a smart move?

I’m happy for you though, you can leave your Willie poster up in your room.

"Obviously, that would be a dream to stay (in Toronto) - I mean, to play for such an organization," he saidpostgame when asked about the possibility of signing long term. "And I call Toronto home. So I think that'd be a very special feeling."

Wow that’s laying it on thick.
Almost as good as 34s "i just love Toronto, it's such a great place to be." As he gets on the first plane going to Arizona as soon as the seasons over.

I think it's very marginal. If at all. The odd player might pick up a few hundred thousand but can you name an example of anyone who has gotten paid because of playoff performance?
Not exclusively for a playoff performance, but it certainly has an impact, and I'm sure it's more than "very marginal".

Not sure if this has been mentioned before or not but if it's true, and it is his dad that's making things difficult here, that's pukeworthy and really bad news for Leaf fans. First Marner's dad, and now this. Good thing Matthews' father isn't cut from the came cloth or we might be paying him 16 million.

Paying 11+ now seems ridiculous, I'd much rather wait until the summer. I can't imagine that the best offer on the UFA market could be much better than 10.5 with all the front loading, endorsement opportunities etc. and a chance to play with some ellite talent. Plus paying him 11+ seems to sort of assume that he continues at this level through the rest of the season and the playoffs which is far from guaranteed.

Here's a link to the article.

You be dreaming if you think good ol' Bri was minding his own business during those negotiations. Wait I said negotiations lol, they were anything but!

Pastrnak had a season better than the one Matthews had to win the Hart Trophy. And he got a smidge over Tavares FIVE YEARS AGO. And got less than what Nylander will get. 🤣 Nylander got more than Pastrnak BOTH times. Leafs will have Marner leap frog them both this summer. And they tell us that they're serious about winning. 🤣

Jets traded PLD and let Wheeler walk and are now in 1st place. There is no guarantee you lose a trade. At this point, no longer worth discussing as Leafs have made their decision. Yup if I am paying to watch regular season games, I'd rather pay to watch 88 over 2 TJs but they have to figure out how to win in the playoffs, if they want to win anything as a team.

It is inaccurate to claim nylander got a bigger last contract than Pastrnak.

marner isn't due yet.

Perhaps he will play next season without signing like Nylander is doing this year, betting on himself.

This current trend shouldn't change:

View attachment 798174

What can't change is how much they've already been paid.

The thing with Marner too, is that he's already starting at such a high aav, even a mild aav increase is only going to be 1-1.5 mil more.

Those players are both cancers.
Also winnipegs play this year has been largely unsustainable so we’ll see what happens, that’s a different conversation

I do agree with the rest.

While this is true, Willy also pays him and has the ability to fire him if he doesn't do what he is asking.

It would take nothing for him to say I want to stay in Toronto for my career, but I also believe that we need more help. Take a team friendly deal
Apparently that's what he did last time - told him to call and get it done.

He says he wants to focus on playing now, but hopefully he'll get fed up and expedite matters.

That's been shown to be false. Between home and away matchups, coaching strategies (match top lines or go with shutdown) icings, and in-play line changes, that isn't anywhere near as clear-cut as some believe. It's also been shown that quality of linemates is more relevant than quality of opposition.
How do Tavares linemates fare then?

This Nylander over this Marner for sure. Hopefully Marner ramps it up and we have the best of both in April. Marner probably returns to form next year chasing his next contract. Hard to choose between the two when they are at their best but it looks like they will be keeping both unless Marner chokes in April.

Willy was excellent right from the start of training camp. There were threads made last season wondering if Will was going to hit 50 goals, 90 points and such. He had a slight lull in the second half, but I think he might have been hurt or at least a little bit beaten up.
He was awesome till march then fell off pretty hard . As another poster said, seemed like he was sulking sandin was traded and he was removed from pp1. Either way , he wasnt the same.
Remember the talk last year why he was so much better was playing with the tinted visor removed his migraines.

Pending UFA and all. Too bad he never got drafted by the Leafs - he'd be looking at atleast 13M.

He didn't, but that's the problem, it's way closer than it should be. We're talking about a player who is far better.

I mean. Warranted a bit. Every time the powerplay isn’t going Nylander historically has been the one they move off of it. He’s been given the shaft by the organization/coaching for years tbh. Hell, they don’t even include him in the marketing posters at the ACC which is beyond stupid.

 yeah I'd say somewhere between a lull and falling off hard though.

I remember the visor thing for sure, the sulking talk about Sandin being traded I chose to forget, as it has no basis in fact.
