And when we get to the playoffs and nothing has changed and we bow out again in 2 rounds or less? Where our "superstars" end up being mid again?

Buyer's remorse? Maybe we didn't find the right combination of cheap fill-ins to surround 23/88/16/91 with? This team signs it's death warrant for the duration of Willy's contract. That's 8 years. 8 years and then another rebuild.

Can someone please f***ing explain to me why Nylander is worth more than David f***ing Pastrnak? Or even freaking close to Pastrnak? Look at carrer goals, points, and his 60 freaking goal contract year.

What is going on?

I'm sick of the "leaf" premium we have to play. I'm SICK of it.

I do not think they care. Gotta cater to the kids who will be paying the freight in 10 years. And around and around we go watching franchises like Tampa and Vegas hoist the Cup in June. Enjoy the regular season.

Caps going up bro, gotta overpay by atleast 2M, Only fair.

Career high 87 points and we're set to make him what, the 5th highest paid player in the league.

What a f***ing world eh.

One could easily argue that Rielly has been more valuable than Nylander to the team over the years, and has been just as valuable to the team this year during Nylander's career year.

So why'd Rielly only get peanuts? Why the f*** would he leave money on the table just for greedy shitheads to go scoop it up and not leave any room to make the team better?

If I was Rielly i'd knock some teeth out of Nylander the next time I see him.

It's unreal. It absolutely infuriates me. It's clear mlse doesn't care about winning and just likes "putting on a show".

The leafs are like a body builder who only work their glamor muscles.

That's what I don't understand though. "Putting on a show" doesn't make more money than deep playoff runs. You're pretty much sealing your fate on long playoff runs by overpaying out the ass like we're doing right now.
 
I would rather wait til the offseason. I’m worried we are gonna pay him more than we needed to like we did with Marner. If we wait until the offseason maybe we find that no other team is willing to give him a dime over 11 so with us being able to give the 8th year we only need to pay him 10.5. We also get to offer him a contending team where he’s comfortable with his teammates and coaches and a city he calls home, he has unfinished business.

They haven't won a cup in 57 years and are worth billions. They are doing something right off the ice.

The lowballing and then getting it slammed back in your face is what Tre seems to do with his own pending UFA's. That was the main reason Johnny Hockey left Calgary. He was offered a small raise on his $6M expiring deal...that was insulting to a guy who cleared 110pts and then they offered him more than the CBJ when push came to shove.

I will say...if Tre signed Willy to 8 x $10.5 in the summer...people would have freaked out never knowing that it could have been worse. Here we are. Thanks to Dubas, Matthews and Marner along with JT. This teams internal cap has been screwed up for 5yrs and AM could have been reasonable like Reilly was and reset everything last summer ...but nope...gots to get paid was the mantra.

How many other teams are realisctically going to match out 92ish million over 8 years by paying that on 7 years and having Nylander make 13 AAV?

NOBODY. Why the actual f*** are we signing this contract right now.

We need to get our players locked down to better deals than Boston and the Florida teams. In a cap league with the playoff format the way it is that is essential. I hate the idea of giving Nylander 11.5 while Kucherov and Point make under 10.
 
sign him then trade him for a haul. nylander being paid like a top 5-10 player in the NHL is ludicrous.
im trying hard to remain a fan of this team, but im watching less and less, its hard to feel connected to players that winning is secondary to squeezing every cent out of the franchise. these guys are just so unrelatable unfortunately.
