From Montreal what would the trade value be on Malkin?

I only ask because Ivan Demidov will be coming over to play from Russia next year. Montreal have no Russians on their team and I would like to get one to mentor him. I don’t just want to get any random depth Russian player but someone who could play on the same line as him.

The trade could happen in the offseason if that works for you.

What do you figure that Malkin’s trade value is?

Malkin isn't available. He doesn't want to leave Pittsburgh and will likely retire when his contract ends after next season.

Any bottom 6er you can get value for as role players in other teams, trade them right away!

Top 6 get more tricky, especially if you want to keep Sid happy. If you have a top 6 forward ready to come up (McGroarty?) then you open up the spot. Otherwise you sit tight. You can't give away a top 6 with the hopes you get a 2nd rounder, who may be useful 3 years from now. I mean...who plays in your top 6 while you wait?

I'm not on board with this "blow it up at all costs" because it's hard to turn around a losing culture once you get into that mindset.

To me it all depends on what they're going for next season. If they're going to try to compete at all, for anything other than the #1OA draft pick, i just don't know that i understanding trading away Rakell for anything other than an absurd haul.

I guess the only person worth anything that I'd definitely trade regardless of next year's goals is EK, simply because I don't see that working out the way it was envisioned, and I think he's far better than his impact here would suggest, so he should go somewhere else, for a decent return, and show it. He's not one of the Penguins legacy players, there's no need for him to languish here.

(Unless Letang moves on, then I guess you keep EK and see if that works better)

That said, I don't thin Letang's existence is hindering EK in anyway. I think in every place it matters, EK is being given preference. I know with Burns, there were horn lockings but I don't see that here.

Right now: Neds, Nieto, Acciari, Beauvillier, and Gryz should be traded 100%. Rakell, Bunting, and EK should only be traded if the deal is right. If you can move Hayes, Jarry, Graves, Deharnais, you do but I am not willing to pay to move anyone nor take on any similar shit contract.

I agree with you. I don’t necessarily think Letang is harming EK in any way, but they overlap and not in a good way. When the trade happened it was like “wow! We will always have one of these guys on the ice!”
And now it’s like “shit! We always have to have one of these guys on the ice!” If Letang retires / gets traded, it makes EK’s more-negative plays less impactful since we’re not doubling up on them.

Also agree about not paying to move players, unless we need space for a very specific player / plan. But I have no desire to see them pay to move their current mistakes just to sign new mistakes.

I am with you on Ned, Beauvillier and Grz. I doubt Dubas trades Acciari (term) and I doubt Nieto can even be thrown into a deal at this point, but it would be great if we could. Ned has some interesting value, and Jarry is untradeable. We need to start seeing what we have in Blomqvist in my opinion, and I don't think that can happen with Ned ahead of him. But I have a sneaking suspicion that Dubas will continue to try (and fail) to trade Jarry instead. I am also including Bunting on the should be traded 100% list. Not because I do not appreciate what he has done for us since the Guentzel trade, but because Heinen has term now and we need to start creating room for McGroarty and Koivunen. We can't have both Bunting and Heinen on the roster next year. That shackles all of our winger prospects in training camp, which may also include Howe (long shot to make it at 19) and Ilyin (I think he is eligible to sign and come to NA), and maybe the new prospects too (Lucius and Bernstrom). So I think Bunting is the easier player to trade at this point, he is having a strong season and Heinen is not. The only way this works is if Heinen plays on the fourth line next year, but that won't happen.

I am also putting Glass on the should be traded list. Either he or Lizotte should be moved, but Lizotte has term so I doubt it will be him. Glass wins draws and shoots right, so some may overlook the fact he is by far our worst goal-scoring threat now. I have more faith in Imama lighting the lamp. Again, we need to create room for Ponomarev and find out what we have in this player.

I see how I worded it and how you responded, but that's not what I meant. I meant if we are trading Jarry or Graves, I don't want to take a Jarry or Graves back. I don't want to do a crap for crap deal. That's what I meant. In your reply, getting a bad player back for draft compensation ala Hayes is a bit different. I would be fine with that provided it's a player and contract like Hayes and not like Graves or Jarry.

I would rather keep Glass at the moment. I think he would make a fine middle 6 transitionary center. I wouldn't hate Bunting-Glass-Malkin next year either. I don't know if the return on him would be better than just having him.

Looks like we both misses Heinen as well. He can go at any time at any cost. 1st, 2nd,..., future considerations...doesn't matter to me. He can go.
