Not supporting the cap hit, as Nylander is going to be about 1.25m overpaid, but at the end of the day Toronto doesn't have any leverage again in negotiating a contract. They played hardball at the start of the summer and lost as Nylander proved himself again this year so far.

Toronto has 0 prospects or any players that can replace Nylanders 85-100 points a year and there is no one in free agency that can replace that. Now add a aging Tavares to the mix and suddenly the offence will look pretty bleak.

At the end of the day, Toronto is a better team with Nylander on it, then without him on it.

Nylander would be only the second UFA to make over 11M after leaving his team, after Panarin who was much better.

JT got 13.83%. Panarin got 14.29%.

Also - in what planet was Nylander as established as Tavares or Panarin as UFA's? Both of them lead their teams in scoring multiple times by the time they were free agents. Nylander has not done it once. Nylander has only put up 2 seasons in his career above PPG and that's if you include this season.

Look at the offensive talent Nylander gets to play with versus what Panarin had in CBJ or Tavares had in NYI.

Panarin is outscoring Nylander even today - stop pretending like Nylander was anywhere close to Panarin or Tavares when they hit UFA.

If Panarin, Tavares and Nylander hit UFA at the same time - Nylander would clearly be option 3 for every team.

You didn't point anything out. You twisted it out of context much as possible to make Nylander seem somewhat comparable.

Tavares for reference was second in league scoring, 1 point away from winning the Art Ross with 86 points in 2015.

You ignore the fact the league is way higher scoring, that Nylander plays on a better team with better offensive players and you only look at PPG and cap percentage ignoring Nylander has never led him team in scoring like those 2.

Also, you think 8 years and 7 years makes no difference for a 28 year old player (when his contract starts).

Going to be 10.88m/8 years and everyone will be like, he is a hero for taking a discount while we all forget that most here were saying(including me) that 10mil was too much for Willie in the summer.

Honestly, just win the Cup and I don't care if any Leafs signs for the MAX deal.
