It seems like these young guys all like each other and want to play together, they like Toronto even tavares wanted to come home and play for his leafs yet none of them can take a damn discount specially when they know they haven’t produced in playoffs?
Imagine nylander comes in at 8x10M he instantly becomes a huge fan favourite and sets him self up to after retirement be at the Clarke,Gilmore and his buddy Sundin status. He prob wins even more than taking this big whatever number they talking about.
He ain’t getting allot more elsewhere, what contender can add such a huge contract??
I don't get the playoff arguement. No one gets paid based on what they have done in the playoffs. It's not how sports works.

Our team identity is “our best players are paid more than your best players”.
If this is what they say it is, it is a terrible contract. Utterly awful and combined with Matthews deal (and probably Marner’s extension too) hobble us and tie us to this core that hasn’t won shit.
I think I hate this core now. Rielly deserves better.

They would have got paid either way.
They should have looser rules on performance bonuses.
Regular season pay..
Bonus for winning wach round etc.
Won't happen with a union though because if you are drafted to say the Sabres, you might never make the playoffs

We have one of the better consistant regular season teams so I guess management is def on right track and we prob should have kept dubas

If you look at the top 10, 20, 50 highest paid players, less than half of them have ever won a Cup. Don't look at top 10. Lol. It is skewed by a bunch of Leafs

Clearly the organization has decided they are running it back with this core until they leave or retire. Imagine what they would have paid Willie if they had to outbid another team like they did for Marner who had multiple OSs. Joke from the top down.

imo I wouldn’t have or would go over 9 , they’ll regret it as usual but looking forward to not talking or hearing about it .
Team needs d and g as it has for past 4 or 5 years and another top asset will be tied up in a nmc . Management to afraid of fan fall out which makes no sense cause fans support the team regardless . Just personal egos i guess

May as well cross watching a Stanley Cup parade on TV off the bucket list. I'd never drag my fat ass down there to see them live. To be honest I'd probably just watch the highlights on the six o'clock news.

Nope , now we have 8yrs of endless discussions on whether he's living up to his contract or not and how it's hindering the team.
What irks me a little is that this is Toronto, why not take a lesser contract knowing that you will make millions more in endorsements. Similar yo what the leafs did with Stamkos. Player gets the money and team gets the cap savings.
