I’m not sure if it’s appropriate but it’s seems like it’d be a nice gesture on the Leafs part.
Hopefully it's that easy but Nylander was the toughest signing before, I'm not that confident he'll make it easy on them this time.

There are all kinds of valuation models out there including evolving hockey. None of them...zero have them with Marner at 10mm. Why don't you come up with something more than a psychic fart smell instead of wasting my time.
Literally just asked you what you figure Marner's real value is $ wise. If that's wasting your time what are you even doing on this board?

It's a boring discussion that is quibbling. The comment was he shouldn't make over 10mm. Every team in the league would want the guy and be happy to spend more than that arbitrary amount. The problem is that being vested in stupidity cause people to double down on hot takes that aren't factual. Next year when the window opens to renegotiate , we shall see where he lies but he is trending for a good contract well above 10.

marner has full ntc/nmc good luck trying to move him. the way this franchise operates i can already foresee them giving marner 12 to 13 AAV for 4 to 5 years

He is at 11 now and will get a raise.

At the same time, I don't see teams giving him 13M if he goes to UFA ..
There is only one team willing to pay him that much money and we already got him.

Really starting to think that Nylander will be moved as soon as the right offer presents itself.

We just gave half his cap to Matthews, the other half goes to Mitch Money. No way we can afford Nylander and his raise.

That’s only if Willy decides to accept a number starting with 9. If he thinks he is a 10 million player he could simply wait until nextJuly and hope to get it from someone else

He'll still net more over an 8 year deal than a 7 year one in free agency. His agent knows that.

Based on what?

Imo if the front office were actively planning to move him, it would have been a draft day deal.

Willy is too good of a player for the team to lose. Why could the Tavares contract have not expired at the same time. Allocate that money to Willy.

Do not see Willy taking any contract that starts with a 9.

Leafs and Leafs fans always latch on to a dud. Marner is a playoff dud who is overpaid. Semin wimpy and slow as molasses off the hop. Wait until he is 28 and even slower.

When the damage is done and the overpay is complete. Just had no cups and people will turn on Skip Marner

I'm really skeptical about your stats. "In almost 60 minutes playing with Matthews 5v5, they haven't been on the ice for a goal scored"?

On April 20, Nylander scored 5v5 with Matthews assisting. On April 24, Matthews scored 5v5 with Nylander assisting. At least according to NHL.com.

And that's just the first two games I checked.

Sorry, I missed out on stating that it was Matthews/Nylander not scoring on a line without Marner.

The 3 headed monster line works great in the playoffs actually.

Why does it have to be a choice between them? The primary reason (balancing cap) gets taken care of with Tavares contract ending

I'm confident Nylander can be resigned as well but if its a choice between them I think its an easy decision. I'm worried Nylander will want a 10+ number though and I want some more money for D+G.

Draft was probably too soon for the new GM to properly evaluate the situation. I think he’ll patiently wait for the right player to come available before pulling the trigger.

No doubt, a Nylander trade would be a defining moment of the Tre era, even moreso than Kadri was for Dubie. He may have even looked for a draft day trade but was unlikely something would come together that fast. Has to get this one right, nobody will forget.

It's a game of poker. The only way Willy stays is if you call his bluff. Aho assures he wont get 10 million unless he just blows up this season. If he does blow we reap the rewards and we have to choose between Willy and Marner. I'm hoping Willy stays and settles for a contract in the low to mid 9's. I keep hearing the the 2024 free agent class is deep. If Willy leaves it will suck but we have players to choose from.
Brad was left empty handed by Johnny Hockey, those scars may remain and he could trade Willy, hoping that doesn't happen.

Right player on a team not on the NTC.

Mind you he could still get that player if ...

Team A Player 1
Team B Player 2 - NTC Team, Player Treliving wants.
Leafs - Nylander

Team A - Nylander
Team B - Player 1
Leafs - Player 2

How does marner come into it?
Actually, he doesn't.

Free Agency:
2024-2025
- Nylander

2025-2026
- marner
- Tavares

Future free agency always looks better until the players re-sign with their own teams.

Now we know Mich is going to ask for the moon and to me, that means WN has got to go. Can't keep paying these guys and giving them increases with no playoff success. D is weak and I'm not even sure how to construct lines 3 and 4
Mitch probably should have been the one to go but it looks like that ship has sailed. Dubas left a mess of entitled losers

Sounds like the fan base is full of entitled losers.
Stop watching and regaling us with your emotional issues ffs.
You want to keep bashing the team, join the other losers on the mainboard

I think he was probably given a mandate to carry out Shannys vision of the team, which from all things considered seems to be to continue betting on the core they've built so far (which means get an extension done by end of the season).

Imo trying to move a 7 mil player now when most teams have limited capspace and close to set rosters is chosing to fight a steep, uphill battle.

We'll know in a few weeks either way which is the direction they've chosen with William
