8 years with this leadership? Only Rielly and Nylander (22 games) have even been on the team for 8 years. If you're looking at failure, it's been 56 years.

McDavid hasn't done it -- I guess he's not worth $10M either.

I don't know - we're already overpaying by more to keep three others who drop off a lot in the playoffs, as opposed to one player who is paid a lot less and actually improves in the playoffs. I'm not sure he's the one we should be singling out to complain about.

If you want to complain about the leadership, yes - that's Tavares and Matthews, and to a lesser extent Marner and Rielly.

McDavid is also overpaid. No one player is worth that much of the cap. Edmonton is experiencing the same issues we are.

I'm looking at this core group. And you have hardly a point if it's actually 7 years of the Matthews/Marner era, not 8.

If we continue to over pay our talent to stay here, rewarding mid performance at best in the playoffs, we are not winning anything. And it should be no shock to anyone here as we continue to get slammed by lesser skilled teams who simply have a work ethic.

Don't ask these questions. I'm telling you why. All of these problems are downstream from overpaying players who haven't proven that they can compete and win when it matters. Willie has a 17 point streak. Willie has great hair. Neither of these things are reason enough to over pay the kid to stay in Toronto. If he wants anything more than 9.5...f*** off. Trade him for a few hard working players.

Marner 1.14/10.9=.105
Tavares 0.95/11.0=.086
Nylander 0.87/7.0=.124

He certainly sucked compared to the other three.

Second in goals, and only one behind JT for third in points.

They have fallen in love with Nylander’s PR press run. Surely, he will do all of these interviews and ride the Subway after he fleeces the team again. It’s that toxic Toronto market that has him negotiating his contract in public. Theres nothing he and his agent can do about the insane numbers being thrown around. Poor willy. You still haven't answered - trade Nylander and then what? What's your plan to win the cup? Trading him isn't going to help in the short term that's a given. You have all these other stars in their prime, Matthews has a full NMC, so does Marner, if you can't win the cup with Nylander, how do think you're going to win one without him?

Your options are:

1) Re-Sign Nylander
2) Trade Nylander
3) Risk Nylander walking as a pending UFA

You've painted a "WHAT IF" scenario i.e. "WHAT IF" Leafs win the cup this season. Then I said "WHAT IF" Leafs get embarrassed again in the playoffs and Willy walks then what?

Option 3 as far as I am concerned is absolute madness which you've been advocating in the entire discussion thread

What are the teams that have 11m in cap space for Willy?

In my mind he wants to be a Leaf and the offer should be 9.5 x 8 = 76m

76m/7years = 10.85m. That's probably the most he would get on the open market.

Let me preface by saying that I love Willy. However, facts should be taken into consideration. Willy tecchnically played behind matthews-maner as they end up taking tough match-ups (although they are not doing a good job of it this season and have sucked together in the playoffs IMO)

On the other team - Nylander would be "THE" guy to produce. he would be the front line guy if he was given that kind of AAV. And if was facing tougher match-ups does he still produce what he has and continue to have same kind of defensive support?

And here is another disclaimer: I completely sympathize with Willy's argument; given that he has been producing not significantly lower than marner and marner's aav being 11 AAV; it becomes challenging to convince Willy to take significantly less more so given what Matthews just got offered and what Marner may potentially be offered.

And yes... many here don't want to say it but I have zero problems saying it. All of this is because the moron that was dubas

Huh? Dubas caved and gave him everything he wanted.
Over time it became a discount but it certainly wasn't one from the start.

You have to realize, the new GM has to deal with the agent...........the agent is and always has been in the drivers seat, especially when the player outperforms the cap hit................
Willy is getting paid.....and it is not starting with a 9 like some hope...

That's definitely what he's worth and arguably what he'll get, specially with the cap going up. I think they recently polled nhl insiders and that was the concensus number.

Pasta was worth 12.5 AAV easily given what Panarin, Marner signed for. 11.25 for Pasta is underpayment. why the F should Leafs continue to bend over when other teams usually get good deals for their superstars

Not sure, cap certainly went up from the time MacKinnon signed and Pastrnak signed his new deal though, and the cap is going to go up. That's something we always keep hearing, the cap is going up.

Why isn't Pastrnak pulling more?
