This move makes little sense if he's not extended. I'm okay with the deal but it doesn't move the needle either way.
Doubtful this tips the scales one way or the other.I hope we are not helping the Leafs win a cup by taking this guy off their hands
Big kid but soft as butter. Shies away from contact at all costs, never seen him in front of the net. I think with the Leafs wanting to improve intensity/grit they were ok getting rid of Engvall. That being said, he's had some nice offensive stretches. Definitely has some skill but very inconsistent.Solid bottom 6 guy. Leafs desperate to win and gave him up. I don’t like that but hopefully it’s because they needed to give to bring in some of the guys they’re acquiring
Looking at numbers/production it doesn't, but it adds a competent player when NYI are playing forwards who shouldn't be playing at the NHL level. I bet the coach looks at this as moving the needle. Going from a soft skilled big forward who so slow that he is a liability (Koivula) to a soft skilled big forward who is definitely fast enough for the NHL (Engvall) is a significant upgrade. This move makes little sense if he's not extended. Lou has locked up every deadline acquisition he's gotten for us to this point, hasn't he? First time for everything, I suppose. This is a pure rental IMO. I am of the opinion that does not like using draft capital unless a team is making the playoffs. In this case, this deal will help the Isles. Worth noting Engvall has 11 ESG playing on what was a weak bottom 6. he didn’t have a strong play making Center or was in a position to play offensively. Almost zero PP time. So call me intrigued with this deal. He was certainly not one of the bottom 6 players I would have moved on that team. Strange deal by Dumbass, Lou is doubling down on making the playoffs. This could be a sneaky deal. That can turn out very good or at worst Lou lost a 3rd for a rental unless Engvall lights it up.

Islanders are not lacking in intensity or grit, or net-front players.Big kid but soft as butter. Shies away from contact at all costs, never seen him in front of the net. I've read that he's good on the cycle because his mobility/reach makes him very difficult to cover.Islanders are not lacking in intensity or grit, or net-front players.
Word is he's good on the boards. But he's soft. Which is it?
Team has Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Nylander, etc, and they lament Engvall not scoring?Tough to see Engvall go from this Leaf fan's POV. He brings that rare element of size and speed with a strong possession game and steady defense. Those tools are quite desirable in any player.
But he's a player that we found that you want more from. With his size, he isn't overly physical or imposing. Offensively, he's average around all around with no standout skill/shot/playmaking.
I believe there was a sense that after letting Mikheyev go last off-season, Engvall would have stepped up and progressed to be more of an impact player. But he hasn't.
What's notable (and why the Leafs likely moved him) is his underwhelming playoff performance to date. 0 goals, 4 assists in 17 games and hasn't made much of an impact off the scoresheet. Combine that with the fact that he's a UFA, it's sensible that the Leafs wanted to go another direction for a playoff run. Not to mention the Leafs have a lot of wingers on the farm so it's unlikely he would be re-signed.
Still, there are strong elements to his game that you'll like. He won't be useless. He will be an asset in possession in and puck movement in the bottom 6, assuming he'll go there. So pair him with some checking forwards and it can be an effective line.
Given his size/speed he could always be a late bloomer in offensive production too, but I don't think it's likely..
In my opinion he's not good on the boards as he doesn't have the drive to win most puck battles. Long reach though so he's good at poking pucks away from opponents without actually having to touch them.Islanders are not lacking in intensity or grit, or net-front players.

I don't think that Bourne would have been a 30 goal scorer in today's game. So much more mobility up and down lineups - his physical advantages wouldn't have carried him so far.Anyone else find it interesting that Bourne essentially is describing his Father… albeit a poorer version without the finishing skills.
why do feel the Isles may try this guy on LW between Horvat and #13 one day next few weeks..thoughts?This is a pure rental IMO. If #13 is back in the next few weeks, I don't care where they put this new guywhy do feel the Isles may try this guy on LW between Horvat and #13 one day next few weeks..thoughts?
I did think of that, although I'll just opine that his dad was a nice player who benefitted greatly from the guys he played with.Anyone else find it interesting that Bourne essentially is describing his Father… albeit a poorer version without the finishing skills.
His name is Giraffe. He's tall skilled and can turn it on at times...will pretend to be very vicious after a fight has started. He has gear and skill but sometimes goes missing, he's a good boy overall.
There are many Giraffe Gifs that you'll find handy...
Here's one to get you all started.
That’s the other similarity I was thinking of. Poor Oleg, imagine him having to play in today’s NHL… with the helmet off the head rules.Oleg Kvasha 2.0?
