Confirmed with Link: [NYI/TOR] Pierre Engvall for 2024 3rd round pick

  • Xenforo Cloud upgraded our forum to XenForo version 2.3.4. This update has created styling issues to our current templates, this is just a temporary look. We will continue to work on clearing up these issues for the next few days and restore the site to it's more familiar look, but please report any other issues you may experience so we can look into. Anybody remember when Milbury had Bertuzzi hang around with Clark Gillies to try to learn how to be a tough guy?

The move makes more sense now...

Lamoriello: We need to add another player like Brock. Can you find me that guy, Kenny?

Morrow: Ok, there's a fella I've got in mind. Our Swedish scout liked him back in the day. He's made progress and, well, has similarities to Brock. But you're gonna have to talk to Dubas again...

Lamoriello: Been a long time since the deal for Matty. I can bear to stomach that punk again if you say this player is similar to Brock. Besides, Kyle's busy making more moves than your average U-Haul nowadays. Clearly not thinkin' straight. How many draft picks do we still have left?

Kautonen: Are you sure you want to go there again?.. I mean, the boys were itching for some first round action this year and already got their hearts broken on that front. Getting them back down to our average five picks per draft with your mandate to use all the late ones on overagers... Well, it's gonna be hard to keep their morale up, especially with this being the draft of the century and all, and we really like...

Lamoriello: Ok, just got off the phone. Ville, you guys still have five picks this summer - for now. Kenny, I sure hope that this young man really is like Brock.

Morrow: Trust me, you'll quickly see how similar they are.

Problem is we need Trotz to make multiverse-Brock into the real Brock Nelson we see today, not the Brock of 2016

Speed on the wing has been a team need. A year ago I was thinking of Mikheyev as an option for the team but then he kind of got priced out. Engvall helps the speed as a cheaper option, as does acquiring Horvat and moving Barzal to wing. Holmstrom is a good skater. Progress.

Whether most fans realize it or not Lou is slowly retooling the team.

50% thought we were 1 goal from the Stanley cup
it was 2 goals and i believe that to be true but i also feel that was then and this is now and change is inevitable and necessary.

each season is different and has circumstances and nuances, to quote a popular word, indigenous to itself

Okay, that's cool and all... but younger and faster. Like the Bruins.

Bruins are amazing and an example of a team that wouldn’t be if management sold off veterans after their last two playoff knockouts.

Coaching change, full season of Lindholm, return of Krecji… and they are all-time world beaters.

This is BEFORE they utilized Bergeron and Krecji’s cap hits to acquire more at the deadline.

Or get 3 Hall of Fame talents on the roster. The Islanders have neither.
Yes, but to be fair the Bruins didn’t rebuild or draft any of that talent with lottery picks.

Also if you follow the entire exchange, I’m not sure that post wasn’t as much about the Bruins or Isles.

Mostly, I gather… Just thought it was clear enough to be left unsaid.
Guess I find it puzzling, no matter if we would have won the Cup, that anyone could fathom a team with Martin, Clutterbuck, Lee, Bailey, Pulock etc could be considered fast enoguh under any circumstances

Yeah, the Bs were coming off a few disappointing playoff seasons and traded a prospect, a 1st and two 2nds for Hampus Lindholm at the TDL last year (28 years old, and then extended him long term). I wonder if there were posters on the Bs board complaining that they should have torn it down and rebuilt?

Well… technically if they won a cup they would’ve been by default fast enough. I mean if what you have can result in a championship, then it’s automatically enough or more so. No?

But with that said, no this is not or never has been a team of speedy skaters. But having speedy skaters and playing fast are not necessarily the same thing. But the former makes the latter somewhat easier to implement.

Fast enough to beat a crappy Montreal team in a shortened travel restricted season/bubble scenario

Much different to do it in an 82 game grind with full travel with the dinosaurs we had

I guess my point was I think both the fact that we almost won and the fact that we still needed to gain speed and youth are both true in my mind simultaneously

True. But I’m with others on this board that have said that plan is already in action.

Isles cementing a core around Sorokin’s age. And have been introducing Bridgeport players into the mix. Who will get longer looks next year.

I'm all in for today. The covid runs were fun and the future isn't as bleak as some might think but we have business to attend to this afternoon

I gotta go see eye doc so hopefully by tonight I'll be seeing straight!
