After 3 games, I'm not seeing anything.

He's playing overly careful and hasn't done a thing that stood out. He doesn't look like a very confident player. I'm not seeing shots, passes, or even defensive coverage that has me thinking he can help here.

It's a different situation, of couse, but I think we all saw a heck of a lot more out of Durandeau in his 3 games than we have with Engvall, who seems to be a step behind in just about all situations.

Yup, not impressed. Then again, our guys coming up have played this system for some time before coming up. Coming from Toronto, well...definitely a different system. He does look lost out there unless he is skating north. With that, he will need to really work to fit in here and not sure if he can. I see another Beau along the boards.

Yes, so far, he seems like a bigger Beau.

But that is OK, provided the Isles get JGP and perhaps Clutter back soon, with Barzal (hopefully) back before the end of the year too.

Engvall is getting a shot now and, if he works hard in practice and adjusts to the system, I am sure he will get another shot down the line. Injuries are inevitable.

I would like to see him carve out a role and make the Isles think about extending him. But if he can't, so be it as the Isles can move on in the offseason and they have cheap depth now in players like Holmstrom, Fasching, Durandeau, etc.

For him to stick he probably needs to really up his game and get out of his comfort zone, by playing more physically. Not sure if he is going to be able to get there, but he has the size and speed, so who knows?

I wasn’t too impressed with the short interview he had with the press. Something along the lines of I’m just going to do what I always do. It’s the same thing I’ve always done. I’m just going to have fun out there. Unless this was the pep talk Lambert gave him and he’s just repeating it I hope he understands that what his new teammates are doing out there is very different than what he’s used to doing. All teams work hard but the Isles always seem to work one notch higher than the competition and win the puck battles on the forecheck. They tend to be a little more physical and impose their will and they pay attention to the details. If this is what he’s used to he’ll be fine but if he’s just loafing or floating around the ice not putting the work in he’s not going to last very long on the Isles. The isles don’t need a weak link. He’s been given a great opportunity here. I hope he doesn’t blow it. He needs to forget about the Leafs and play Islander hockey.

I agree and would like to add the french kid into the lineup up if this Giraffe can figure it out fast enough

He's had moments where I'm impressed and then others where I'm not. I'll give him more time.

What I like is that he's able to close guys off and provide pressure on the forecheck and backcheck pretty effectively. What I don't like is that there's really no offense to his game or physicality. If this is all he is then it's fine, keep him in the bottom 6 and he can help wear teams down by being annoying in the neutral zone.

He's a warm body to fill out a roster spot/depth who's still young, has upside and isn't a liability right now.

Not a liability per se, but if Lambert keeps Engvall on the bench for stretches (along with Holmstrom and Koivula) and basically playing 2 1/2 lines it's going to wear the rest of the forwards down. During the 2nd intermission Hickey was talking about the team looking fatigued. Lambert's trying to find a spark but he needs to keep everyone's legs going.

True. We need Pageau and Barzal back asap. And maybe Clutterbuck.

Def need Clutter back, imo. He plays minutes that are hard for the other team to play against. It's not all about scoring. He has a role and he plays it well – he forechecks relentlessly and he wears out opponents. Don't understand the hate for him. When he's healthy, he's an asset for the role he's supposed to play.

He's overpaid we have too many 3rd/4th liners on bad contracts Lou is old I'd rather win the cup than just make the playoffs the cupboard is bare we're not winning the cup anyway.

They just do different things. Fasching has been pretty good since coming up and I think he's been important during this stretch. Clutterbuck can come back in, it's just a matter of who comes out and what the coaching staff is looking for.

I’m not willing to let Clutterbuck play himself back into game shape in the lineup while the team is winning.

Cal, the press box is out the door and to the left.

I agree, I don't think he will work out. I hope Lou just lets him go at the end of the year. I think our money can be spent more wisely.

Agree 100% and been saying that the way we are using our forwards is not sustainable, no matter how much success we have had recently. This is why, IMO, getting JGP will be key, so that we can consider rolling 4 lines and stop the double shifting of our centers. We can argue who should sit when everyone is healthy but would think that most would think that Koivula will be the first to sit. If Clutter , then Barzal come back, we will have plenty of depth so may the best players play. Also hopefully, Engvall starts getting some 3rd period minutes as he adjusts to the system .

We are at least lucky that we have been and will continue to be on a 3 games a week pace for the rest of the season, while other teams are playing 4. Maybe the one positive to having played more games than everyone else. Only 3 back to backs left, one next week.
