No, the same thing happened with Tolvanen. We have an aversion to playing our young players, just look at Parssinen, Tomasino and L'Hereux, playing well only to be given 6 minutes a night if they aren't benched.

Tolvanen is down to 4th line minutes with the Kraken(Only wright and Kartye are lower). Seems to me that the Preds are just quicker to come to the conclusion that players aren't working out.

2.5m for a #6-7 who's now past the blossoming stage, don't see much appeal for MTL, maybe the Sharks or Hawks have a need but really, meh. This thread screams HF typical overacting, a hyped prospect failed and now people are screaming bloody murder because no team wants to give anything for him

prospect?
he has 330 games in the league

Strange. Unless there's something going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. He's certainly not a world beater, but he's a RH NHL caliber defenceman. $2.5M might make it tricky for some teams to make a claim without sending other salary out, but there are also plenty of teams that could use him who do have some cap space to burn.

It really does kinda feel like there's maybe more to this story than just "coach hates him for no reason". His play on the ice from what i've seen, doesn't really explain this level of disfavor. Far from perfect, but he's not been just a complete trainwreck defensively, that i've seen. Which leads me to wonder if there's something Fabbro is doing (or not doing) off the ice that gets him put out in the doghouse? Or specifically, on waivers...with apparently no takers to even spend a mid/late round pick to "jump the line"?

Utah's RD is currently Kesselring and Lamoureux with Durzi and Marino on the shelf. They have a ton of cap space, even after they added Maatta.

When I read this post at first it sounded crazy even to me, but thinking about it the only guy I would say has an argument outside of Josi and Skjei is Carrier and I'm not sure he's actually better either.

Unless I'm missing a important detail.. I'll be in absolute shock if he doesn't get claimed. I'd be fine if Oilers tried for him but I think he gets claimed before our number comes up.

He’s an overpay at $2.5 and he’s a UFA after the season. He’s run out of options.

Here’s a perfect example of a team who probably ruined a player. Something not usually the case with Nashville. Which makes me think, maybe he just never did have enough.

However, he should’ve spent at least a year, playing a top role in the AHL. If you draft a dman in the 1st Round, every place he plays, needs to be in the role you envision him playing.

Very few Dmen work their way up an NHL depth chart at the NHL level. They play Top 4 roles and special teams at every level, and slide right into that role with their NHL team. It’s why we should worry about Jiricek in Columbus. He should be playing Top pairing minutes in the AHL. You can work your way up the depth chart in other leagues. Just not the NHL. It really is rare.

Just look at how Clarke and Edvinsson have jumped right into their roles this year. That’s how you develop Dmen. If they’re not ready for that role in the NHL yet, don’t push them.

Consequently, he just never developed anything above average. Everything he does is average to below average. That’s why he’s on waivers today.

Now, does some team who liked him 5-6 years ago, wanna take a shot at $2.5 million? Possibly. The good part is, he’s a UFA after the season, so you’re not locked in AND you can bury a million of him, if you need to.

He hasn’t been good though guys. He hasn’t even been average. He’s a bottom pairing dman. Meaning his expendable. Once again, it’s why he’s on waivers today.

It’ll be interesting to see who, if anyone claims him. Will a bottom team, or will a team like the Canucks? We’ll see tomorrow.

Right side is pretty shallow and it prevents calling up Mailloux who is not ready defensively, I hope they would claim him
You're not wrong, but they weren't a fan of the 8 dman and 3 goalie rotation last year so I doubt they go back to it. Maybe they send down Struble/Xhekaj but I don't think they gave up on Barron already given how they extended him for 2 years instead of 1.

I think a lot of Sharks fans would like to see a claim here, because Rutta has been brutal especially paired with Ferraro... But, with the Lily trade and Jack Thompson looking pretty good as a rookie, claiming Fabbro would create a logjam of mediocre to below average D men on the right side (Ceci, Liljegren, Fabbro, Rutta, Thompson, Vlasic). So the only way out of that is sending Thompson back down even though he's looking decent, or waiving Rutta even though "he's a tall, physical vet who has won a cup", and either way you've got two RD in the press box even in that situation (once Vlasic is healthy).

So it may be that Grier had a choice between Lily and Fabbro and chose Lily, leading to Fabbro on waivers and not claimed by SJ. we'll see.
